Love is where you give, |
I hate it because it's too easy. I hate it becuase it makes game developers make games for the lowest common denominator aka people too stupid to play a complex sandbox. I hate it because once you max your levels your done. I hate it because it has an end. I hate it because the graphics are cheese. I hate it because it's simplistic, linear and unimaginative. |

I tried WOW a few times, but never really liked the game. I do respect the game for what it is and blizzard for providing a game that many millions of people do enjoy. I think people hate the game because they feel (afraid that) wWOW takes focus off their own game or type of game they like to play (and of course there are to many people who just hate everything and WOW is the biggest target). However, WOW brought a totally new marget to the MMO and I don't think it has really usurped any other MMO for thelong term. WOW has so much to legitiminze the industry, you have so may people who play WOW that before would of ostracised the genre. I don't see how anyone who cares about the industry can not think that's a good thing. |

I think what people here really hate is there is no A++ multimillion mmo competitor out there that really shows off what mmo gaming is all about. |

WoW's a fine game, I still play it myself. There's a lot of hate for two reasons: 1) Worst...community...EVER. Hands down. The generalization of it being full of elitist kiddies is, well, generally true. The chat channels are completely useless because they're clogged with "ur mom" jokes, or Chuck Norris BS 24/7/365. This pisses off a lot of dedicated mmo players (not first timers like most WoW players). 2) WoW has created a new paradigm in the mmo world that everyone is trying to copy to make a buck. There's nothing new or unique coming down the mmo pipe. They're all trying to copy WoW and that pisses off a lot of dedicated mmo players. |

It doesn't piss off the long time dedicated MMO players that don't look at the general chat channels either. They couldn't care less what's there because it doesn't affect them in the least. They use the tools that are free from the noise like the friends list, personal messages, guild chat, party chat, raid chat, the auction house etc. |

Nunez1212 Do not listen to Copeland's uninspired bullshit rant about WoW. I am about to counter all the garbage that he just typed for you. I hate it because it's too easy. Ok this one is easy. Anyone who boast WoW is to easy are generally smacktards. These are the people who rush on up to the max level, (which is easy enough) but either can't hack end game, or they lack the skills to even do end game in the first place. WoW is as complex and hard as ANY other MMO on the market and in some cases harder. Nunez to test this out, just go and google WoW Jutsu. This site will tell you how many guilds have downed the last 3 bosses of Sunwell. You will find not many, last I checked it was 34 guilds. That is 34 guilds spanning EVERY server on US and EU. Seems REAL EASY doesn't it. 34 guilds out of prolly in upwards of 40,000+ guilds can do this. Man I wish they would make WoW harder. I hate it becuase it makes game developers make games for the lowest common denominator aka people too stupid to play a complex sandbox. Hmmm, lowest common denominator. This one is funny. WoW was made for the casual, anytime anyone crowd. It trumps any game on the market sub numbers 10 fold. From a business point of view AND a gamer/consumer point of view it is pretty obvious that the "lowest common denominator" or "stupid people" are far greater than the mythical "sandbox player". It would appear these people are the HUGE majority. I hate it because once you max your levels your done. As in all MMO's the job is never done. Just because you reach 70 and think your done. You are not. Unless you are in the 34 guilds I spoke of earlier, your not done by a long shot. Even if you are in one of those 34 guilds you still have tons to do. You have to max out 2 professions, and 3 general professions. You have about 30 factions you can get rep with. You have arenas to win, and bg's to slay opponents in. Also as in all other MMO's expansions are on the way to give you a few more bosses to try and down. More areas to explore, and so on. This statement was bs. I hate it because it has an end. MMO's have no end. None of them do, that is what makes them MMO's. Worlds that stream on forever to waste your life in because the one you live in real life fails. I hate it because the graphics are cheese. This one is strictly a matter of opinion. It has a style all it's own. It might also be hard to believe but there are some people out there that prefer anime/cartoon style over high poly/res realistic look. I hate it because it's simplistic, linear and unimaginative. Simplistic, it is easy to learn, easy on the user. I don't know if you got the memo, but usually easier is better! That is why staples has an easy button. Linear, This guy doesn't know the meaning of linear, or else he wouldn't have typed it. The world is open which is the opposite of linear. Instanced dungeons may be linear but then again, they have to be. who wants to run into a dungeon that has no end or no bounderies. How would you ever know what your objectives were? This is another bs statement. Unimaginative, it is true wow took the best elements from all MMO's before it, tweeked it, polished it, perfected it, and gave it a name. It is also true that WoW is based loosely on Warhammer art. However it is the first game to do what it has done. That would be a great game with solid game mechanics, good lore (for those who take the time to explore it) and fun gameplay. Unimaginative, maybe, does that really matter tho considering the scope of the game..... not to many.... not to most. |

Hehe, well of course some of these points are subjectve and you're entitled to your opinion, but I do have to laugh at the "too stupid" point. I used to work at a law firm here in the UK and one of the top guys there, who is a barrister and fearsomely intelligent, had a WoW guild with some other law chums form other firms, and they used to get together and do the occasional bit of raiding. He used to play UO and EQ before that. He had several WoW characters. So there's a guy who a) was incredibly clever, b) played sandboxes, but c) still enjoyed WoW, and found the raiding challenging enough to be enjoyable. |

WoW is a great PvE fantasy MMORPG. It is as easy as that. That does not mean that everyone will like it, but to refer to lack of quality is the same as being very misinformed. I have had some of my greatest gaming moments in WoW despite being 35 years old and a gamer by heart (from pen and paper, tabletop, boardgames and computer games today). I find PvP to be a bit lacking since the game is PvE-centric by design. The main problems being in Mass PvP while smalle scale PvP is actually really good (1-5vs.1-5). I think the hate stems from the fact that each hard-core person in his/her heart wants to be special and playing among another 10M people is not really special - it can be competetive - but clearly not special. I stopped playing WoW myself just a few months after the expansion since I felt they changed the game to the worse and quite frankly I did not have the time anymore to be playing on a really competetive level. Nonewithstanding, I will for a long time remember Naxxramas as a true gem of PvE design and challenge. |
