Good.... Bad.... Im the guy with the gun. Ash aka Bruce Army of Darkness

Why is it everything resorts back to D&D type fantasy?

Ive played so many MMO's its ridiculous and the majority have been this high fantasy type of game. Which is cool but I have yet to play a good futuristic game setting. I was really expecitng more out of Anarchy didnt grab me as great. its was just ok.

The people who did " Shadowrun " for Sega Genisis had the right idea with there little console game you could take jobs from a fixer - assassination type - escort - delivery- erase files in the Cops mainframe hack into major corporations or just run in and go crazy killing everything you see.

If there is a developer with Skill this game could be pulled off and done justice the same goes for a good Vampire MMO would be tits also.

I challenge you developers to make a game that is different and done with so much WOW and not the gay little cartoon game that excites the 10 year old kiddies. But a stretch for the mature gaming community that is looking for that one game that was EQ when it first came out and set the standards for MMO atleast for me anyways

Anyone else down with this idea?

Anyone else tired of the same game different name?

CCP is developing a World of Darkness MMO. So you might want to keep your eyes on that. The thing has been "announced" after the merger between CCP and White Wolf.

And to be quite honest, if anyone can pull off a good World of Darkness MMO, it could be CCP.

So yeah, pay attention to that. Shadowrun, I really don't know, though I find it kind of sad that no one is going for one of those.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

If you want to create a MMO I would want to play for years, it *has* to be classic fantasy.

If you gamehoppers are bored and want to get Vampires today and Superheroes tomorrow and the day after tomorrow something else, well thats your problem.

Actually that's far from the truth. Fantasy (high & low) are popular among most newcomers in the gender and this is of course reflected by the market. The MMO gender is over-saturated by fantasy MMOs, so much that it becomes hard to make a meaninful distinction between them.

On the other hand, anything non-fantasy is currently underdeveloped. Which of course creates opportunities for those willing to differientate. CCP is among them, so I'm expecting to see the result of their labour.

I don't see why an MMO that keeps people subscribed for years HAS to be fantasy. Personally speaking, my longest stay in a fantacy MMO was equal in time (close to 3 years) to a futuristic MMO. So I don't see how this can be taken as an absolute rule.

although if eve is anything to compare to, get in at day one otherwise you're buggered!

Well, I have a deeper problem with many of these games.

When I play a fantasy MMO, and its not LotRO or AoC or any of these really bad IP designs who fail to do the standards, I usually have a choice between

  • Warrior or Fighter or sth: a class which simply does melee fighthing without anything else
  • Paladin: a defensive fighter with some healing
  • Ranger or Archer or Scout etc: ranged damage, exploration
  • Rogue: melee dps with bad defense, stealth specialist
  • Berserker or Monk or something: An all out melee class with really bad defense
  • Cleric or Shaman or Druid or whatever: Healing
  • Sorcerer or Mage or whatever, typically in multiple variants like Necromancer etc: Magic damage
  • Bard: a buffer class with some social heavy context

While in a Vampire MMO, as fun as the idea sounds, what can I play ?

Vampire.

Or Vampire.

Or, wait, also Vampire.

One can be lucky if you get also the chance to play a Human or a Werewolf. Hey, maybe they introduce also Sorcerers, Witches, Zombies, Liches, Ghouls etc. But thats often not what is done. Instead, we get the aforementioned choice between Vampire or Vampire. Its just plain boring and while it might be fun for 1-2 hours or maybe also 1-2 month, it soon gets pretty old.

Doh... you probably never even heared about White Wolf Vampire Pen and Paper RPG system?

The vampires there differ a lot, much more than in any mmorpg out there. The system there would be FANTASTIC FOR A SANDBOX game instead of a silly class/level system.

Please use google.com next time and find some information about Vampire RPG systems before posting such a silly post.

Anyway there is a rumour that White Wolf is developing a WoD (World of Darkness) MMORPG which would include Vampires/Hunters/Werewolfs.

REALITY CHECK

Insofar as White Wolf's games are concerned, there are multiple types of Vampires to pick and fairly extensive ability to customize them. Let us say, for example, that you are playing a Dark Ages-era vampire and you want to emulate one of the classes that you have specified, all of which are traditionally hideously linear and allow you no broad choices concerning specialization.

So. You're a Vampire. Maybe you're one of the Daeva who tend towards being hedonists, or the Ventrue who are most often found in leadership positions of some sort. Perhaps you are a mad Malkavian/Malkovian, or one of the monstrous Nosferatu, or the beastly Gangrel.

All of that is up to you, though quite honestly it doesn't sound like much, and it's not as much as you might like. Customization comes down to the Skills and Merits you choose to pick. Want to play a sniper? Pick up five dots of Marksmanship and maybe a merit for good eyesight.

Want to play a Sorcerer? Pick up that particular power-set and work on it in-game. Want to turn into a bat? There's a power-set for that, and growing claws, and becoming invisible, and all manner of other things. If you want to be a Warrior or Fighter, train yourself in Melee Combat. If you want to be a Brawler, train youself in Unarmed. If you want to be a diplomat, there are skills for that too.

Basically, the point is that there's a whole lot of variety to be had in a game derived from Vampire the Requiem and/or Vampire the Masquerade. (If
