I know that 8.2 used to be even higher then that, and it was the highest rated game at one point, but how? How are so many people giving it such good ratings?

I came into the game with high hopes. Star Wars Galaxies was long gone... I was not happy with the direction WoW was going in, and I was really looking forward to something new. All the features listed on the AoC website looked awesome and I was really excited for this game to come out. It really only took me a week or 2 to figure out that I really did not like this game at all. Heres why:

1. Instancing

The instancing of this game completely killed the feeling of an MMO for me. I love the feeling of playing in a living breathing world with many other players online. The instancing was a complete buzz kill, destroying the MMO "World" feel and making it only feel like a game.

2. Combat

I didn't find anything "Revolutionary" about the new combat system. Having to hit keys and giving direction to your basic auto attack, while an interesting idea, really didn't do it for me. After a while, it become more of an annoyance then anything. It felt like a poor mash between the traditional RPG combat and an action style combat. While the action style could be very fun in an MMO, the delay beyond the time for the weapon swing and the Queue for attacks really made it just a bad system. Same thing for the Combo moves. Where in a game like WoW, when you hit your hotkey for your move, your character does the move. In AoC, hitting the key for your move means your character does his move whenever he gets around to it. Very disengaging for me.

3. PvP

PvP, at least at the early levels, seemed pointless to me. It usually consisted of nothing more then some random guy 8 levels above you sitting on the spawn point killing anyone that spawned. Making a certain spawn point the point where everyone that dies in the area resurrects was a horrible decision and was just begging for campers. Beyond that, I'm not really a fan of FFA style PvP in any style game, but it didn't really work with this one especially. You couldn't run over and help someone that was in a tough situation with ease, as it was very easy to accidently kill them with your AOE weapon swings.

But as I go back to my original question, how in the world did this game get such a high rating(although dropping rapidly) to begin with? I had trouble making myself log in to play after only a week, and I know a lot of my guild transfering over had similer feelings. And all I read on here is about how much people dislike the game. So how in the world did it, if I'm not mistaken, at one point have an 8.7 rating?

Am I correct to assume that these people giving it all 10's were doing so before they even played the game for any decent amount of time?

My my OP and Thrader seem to have revolutionary comments. Regardless what you hear, not every fanboi hits 10 accross the board if the game sucks.  Sure some people do that, but not all of them or I would be guilty of it, and I know for a fact I didnt give AOC a 10.  Aside from that to the OP AOC got an 8.2 or higher because someone else out there has a different opinion then you.  And if you spent the time to read all the millons of posts on AOC you wouldve noticed that people actually like the game regardless how broken it is. It has alot to offer, you dont think so? I dont care and no one else here does.

New games always start with a high rating.   Everyone is excited about the new game and rates high because theyre having fun.. its not until later that people see the flaws.

I would bet that 90% of the ratings were done when we were all hyped up in the over-polished tortage island. Damn that place was fun, especially white sand isle.

A shame there's **** all to do at level 80 without a rather large guild.

I never said "every fanboi" or "all fanbois."  By very definition a "fanboy" is the type of person to give a game 10s across the board.  So my statement of "lots of fanboys" is probably accurate.

This statement doesn't apply to those who think the game is mediocre, or those who enjoy the game yet understand it has problems.  Those people are not considered "fanbois" and probably gave the game a fair rating based on how well they liked/disliked the game.

So please stop making assumptions about my statements.

You don't have to get upset because, as you said, "someone else out there has a different opinion then you". You think the game is good? I don't care, and no one else here does. I think it is really bad.

AoC gets a 7.3 for customer service....any more proof needed that the fanboi's have been busy?
