Good, bad... I'm the guy with the gun

Ok so I want to start off by saying I have played with people that are 30 years and older who are very immature and I have palyed with 12 year olds who are awesome and act very mature. That being said i do beleive that the majority of immature gamers are younger people. Somthing you always hear is such and such community sucks becasue its all a bunch of immature 12 year olds.

So i was thinking they should make age restricted servers. have the cut off be like 18 or 21 and up. You would need to provided verification that you were the limit age or above to play on the server. I think this would be great. Whos with me?

Edit: Methods you could use to pull this off. Maybe they could ask for multiple id forms. Like drivers license, social secruity, and may have taht match the credit card you would be paying with. I know that there will be some people to cheat the system no matter how you do it but for the most part i think you would end up with a server population with mainly the correct age.

Not to kick you in the nuts right when the gate opens, but how would you implement something like this?

Dont stop feeling, just start thinking.

Interesting, but even with verification still pretty much impossible.

Eh...it works...

MMOs I remember: AC, AA, DAoC, EQ, EQ2, L, L2, PS, LOtrO, DDO, Planetside, BE WW2, WoW, Ryzom, SWG, TR, CoX, HL, DR, PT, Exteel, Guild Wars, AO, Archlord, Dreamlords, Atlantica, Entropia, EVE, FF XI, Maple Story, Ogre Island, Planeshift, Rappelz, RFO, Runescape, MXO, SotNW, SL, Vanguard, UO, WAR, PotBS.

Mmos I subscribe to: none currently

I need a better game...

I personally think it is a bad idea, simply because it'll act as a segregation method. Can you imagine being an extremely mature 15 year old, yet being forced to play with immature little guys and girls simply because of your age? Unless there is a valid reason, such as the game being rated mature, one has to admit that it is slightly discriminatory.

Secondly, I don't think it's possible to properly enforce this. What's to stop one of these 12 year olds from getting one of their parents to go through the verification process, then just play as if they are them? Trust me...as stupid as it sounds many parents out there would do this because as long as it's keeping the child occupied, they don't care. I know of someone who bought her 8 year old son GTA, despite its rating. I can say for a fact that she wouldn't hesitate going through this verification process either.

Sadly, it's just something one has to put up with and the reason we have ignore lists. Plus, one can't escape the immature people who are over the age limit either.

I'd honestly rather play with a bunch of 12 year olds than the older people, I just want to chill and relax and play the game and the older crowd seems to be more serious and all hardcore for cerial type stuff. Just seems the older people tend to give off that 'elitism' vibe that I hate so much in mmos.

I'd rather be in lollipop land then seriousville, most of the little 12 year old kids are pretty cool I've met.

Just my 2cents.

With statement you make and ask for age restriction you contradict yourself.

Secondly i think problem lays with you, your tolerance or to be mature enough to ignore immature behavior you have not yet masterd, so wait 10years and then maybe you have learn to live with it:).

Thirdly asking for age restriction is very bad way of shutting out people who are very mature and nice becouse some are idiots, its not very smart and wise to make such restriction so you can have a playing time you like by cutoff those who are maybe even more mature and social then you are.

Bad idea very bad.

Very good points you all make. As for not being able to ignore immature people I have kids and a wife. If you have either you will know the level that my ignoring can go. By the way I only play when the kids are sleeping or gone. The wife aww she is stuck with me game and all.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

Ok, lets see.

1. Wont work in practice.

2. Wont help with anything.

3. Will give your company bad image for being prejudiced against youngsters, meaning less youngsters will play your game.

-> You win ! Definititely a great idea, will definitely be tried at least some couple douzen times by various big companies, if it doesnt even will turn into a common standard idiocy like, say, the braindead idea of soulbound items.

MMO doesn''t mean only Groups/Guilds/PvP gaming.
It’s many people playing *different* game styles.

Age isn't the real factor. Played BF2142 with 10 year-olds (you knew they were 10 year-old due to their voice on chat), and they weren't a problem.

The issue is plain immaturity. 20 year-olds wanting to horse around or rain on other gamers parade. There's a time to be serious and a time to have fun, but some don't know that line. When they don't they interfere with playing the game -- like the punk who thought it was fun leaving his mic key open so his whole squad had to listen to the worst gangsta rap known (he was a v-e-r-y sick puppy and cleared the squad quick).

So maybe the age limit isn't what's needed but a way to weed out jerks, no matter what age.
