Open, seemless with limited loading screens, mostly associated with instanced special scenarios.  Nothing like AoC.

There's loading screens between the tier's apparently, and into the instanced places naturally (scenario's, city siege)

Yeah none of the Racial Pairing areas are next to each other so you travel by some kind of teleportation or thats what was hinted at I believe!  The Scenarios will be istanced Battlegrounds like in WoW, and the Capital City Sieges will section into instances when they take place since most the server will be there when they happen!  Don't recall any hard info but between the Tiers in each racial area may have a short laoding period or an invisible one.

Other than that everything else will be open world with seamless travel!

By all accounts the gaming world is huge as well,

I saw a screeny a few weeks back of a high elf area, and theres a battle going on on the bridgework between some towers.

The towers were incredibly high off the ground, the panoramic view also encompassed a vast area where there was an ongoing land battle.

Put it this way, I played neverwinter nights online for 3 years, zone transitions in that didnt really spoil the immersion for me and depending on the server there couid be hundreds (talk about a game with infinite scope).

Yeah there are several maps around, though I can never get the Atlas on war-rvr to work, and the games workshop maps don't work either. I would really love a wall atlas.

WAR will be lightly instanced, as in some instancing for PvE encounters (ala WoW, though most likely only the final boss will be instanced for groups). It will also have instanced "battlegrounds" which are called scenarios...30 of them. Set matches for 15 min with predetermined numbers and levels. Lastly, the four tiers are zoned, you have to go through a loading screen, but the sub-zones within each Tier are seamless.

WoW isn't seemless, you just don't notice the loading between zones. 

Cross continents and you get a loading screen.  Each continent is also comprised of zones wich load as you cross them, they just load really fast.  It was more noticable the first couple of months when WoW was released.  For instance if you ran from one area to another, like say crossing from silverpine forest into the arathi highlands, and you had a pet the pet would vanish.  Or if you entered a city you would get hitching as the zone loaded.

So yeah, the guy you quoted is right.  WoW is neither open nor seemless; it just gives the impression of being so.

Yeah but WoW handles it better than EQ2 or AoC.  I hate load screens, I would way rather have tunnel loading like WoW than load screens every few minutes.  It might be aesthetic reasons, but the load screens really annoy me, even if in essence tunnel loading is the same thing.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

If that's your test for "open" and "seamless" then the concept probably doesn't exist in any game, MMO or not.

People can be pretty brainless, WoW is seamless as best as you're going to get until technology and software developement is forwarded.

You get to a new zone in WoW and not only can you look across the line as if it weren't there but you won't feel any loading because it's preloaded. 

Old DaoC was the same way except for dungeons and rvr zones.

I played NWN and EQ2 which are highly instanced but those games rocked serious addiction so i didn't mind a bit.

WoW is seamless where as you can run on your mount through zones and won't have to go through a gate or a load time or whatnot and that includes dungeons until you get to an instance portal for boss or raiding type encounters.

Don't exaggerate for the sake of trolling just to make a pointless point.  Anyways Warhammer is going to be pretty much like the other posts state. 

I'm about to start up again in WoW til WAR comes around since D3 isn't out for who knows how long.

i did not read all the posts , maybe half so forgive me if this has been said .

 

scenarios are instanced .

tiers are not instanced .  i think of them more as zones like in EQ .  you load into a zone and get to play the game with every one that happens to be in the zone not just some of the people  like AOC .

city sieges i believe will work like zones  . im not 100% on this or Mythic's plans for city sieges ... either way im sure they will be pretty damn cool :)

10 years ago Asheron's Call 1 was more seemless and you didn't feel any loading at all.  Plus you could run to a top of a mountain that you saw in the distance without the artificial "zone walls" that you get with World of Warcraft.

So don't tell me that technology needs to catch up because that is bull.  World of Warcraft is about as seemless and zoneless as EQ1 was. Only difference is WoW uses such low quality graphics (compared to the machines it runs on) that it can load the next zone in the background.

If there were separate instances between zones you wouldn't be able to see someone who was across the boundary.  It would be easy to prove your statement if someone were standing 5 ft away across the boundary and you couldn't see them.  Just because they load textures/models when you get close to another zone doesn't mean it's a separate instance or that the world isn't seamless.  We all know the game isn't 100% seamless because there are some loading screens, but a majority of the game is seamless.

My understanding is that the City  tiers are something like this:

K (1)             City              Field          Middle          Field               City             K

That is a whole lot of instances (7). It is also ignoring the fact that the Kings, Cities, and Middle points will contain multiple instances and loading screens in and of themselves. So the reality of it seems to be that you will encounter dozens of loadings screens per tier.

 
All of the other tiers will be nearly as bad, subtracting only the king and city wall encounters.

Bottom line:

5-7 loading screens, or seams, minimum per tier.
