Nostalgia is bad.

Is it usual for NPCs to take about half a minute to respond to you? But it's not only NPCs. I entered a building, stood in what looked like a lift, full of blue light. Clicked use, nothing happened. So I wandered off somewhere else, and about half a minute later I was transported to the lift thing only up a floor! It was responding to my action before! The controls are really awful too. How do you turn around efficiently while moving? And it's not an RPG. And the graphics aren't even very good! Don't think I'll be around long.

8.2 my arse!

Updated thoughts further down the thread.

It seems like you have a lag problem. I too experienced that the very first time I played. Shortly afterwards my connection went down and a technie had to come in and fix my line.

How is it not an RPG? You aren't playing as yourself.

Lastly, the graphics not being good could be a result of your PC. Otherwise, they just weren't made for you/are bad depending on what you consider to be good.

I occasionally have the same lag problem. Do you have Chello?

REALITY CHECK

Well, any game is an RPG by that definition. I don't recall ever playing muself in a computer game.

I suspect the other problems I'm having are lag-related. But like nothing I've experienced before. Having gone back into the game I actually found it responding to my actions MINUTES afterwards. No mobs around. Totally unplayable. I've played AO today without problems, and EQ2 and GW recently. Not sure why I should be experiencing such extreme problems in TR.

Btw, I played it last night without such extreme problems. I'm on the EU server.

The reference to Chello wasn't far off. I don't use them, I use Eclipse, but they seem to use 'Traffic Shaping' as do Chello. That was the problem. They have moved us onto another package, the same price, and the problems have gone.

So, I can judge the game properly now.

In-game: Toxilium

For once, this problem isn't Tabula Rasa's fault. Its your ISPs.

E&B, SWG, EVE, AO, TR, EU, GW, PS, RV, CoX

TR's graphics are actually pretty good at medium and above.  Low looks like absolute shit though (obviously).

QFE on this, especially the part about low settings seeing as my computer can't handle anything higher :(

OK, I've played TR for a week or so now, with my ISP sorted out and I've become used to the controls. And I have to say it isn't a bad game at all. It's not the first time I've gone off on a rant about a game initially then changed my mind after I've played it a bit!

I like the combat system, the lore and logos stuff, and it makes a change from elves and dwarfs.

The graphics aren't great unless you've got a high end gaming machine. Certainly WoW and EQ2 look better on my system and it's new and not particularly low-spec. Anyone with an older machine is going to struggle. The community isn't great either, with questions in general chat garnering unhelpful, smart-arse replies more often than not.

I'm still confused by the 8.2 rating though, as hardly anyone here seems to have a good word for it! Obviously other people are posting reviews
