Are you guys sure that Bioware is going to go for a pvp formula? I for one don't think so, if bioware finally releases a MMO is probably going to be polished and funny, but Im thinkint that the pvp formula is so nichè in the western market that they are probably going to aim for an arena system covered with fluff to make it look a bit more open, aka a WoW clone with a different enviroment. How many of the players here would have liked/like swg if it was pve based?

Im actually unsure about Bioware, im not putting my faith there for a pvp based game :<

from my experience with bioware games i think it would be safe to say its going to have quite a bit of PvE combat and that it will be more polished than some other games (read: almost every MMO around that can't seem to polish 1 bit of the game).  PvP is quite a niche market but they should not dismiss it completely.

(i am sorry for this next bit)  SWG was a good example of a heavy PvE content game (at the start at least) once the majority of players plowed through that (it takes a while trust me) their attention was focussed on the pvp (galactic civil war, space fights, bounty hunts..ect).  the time it takes to plow through a content heavy (and polished) game is more than enough time for the devs to touch up (or even add in) PvP.

There is almost nothing known about Biowares MMO, just a leak that says it is a SW game and it is supposed to be an sequel to their first SW game.

Anything beyond that is purely speculations and knowing Bioware, they will not make the game as anyone else. They also tend to focus on real roleplaying, quests that really are interactive and the battle between good and evil.

The hype so far is just based on the fact that Bioware have made quite a lot really good games in the past, nothing else.

If they are making a SW-based MMO I will most likely play it although I am sure I will enjoy it for entirely different reasons than I did old SWG.  I will still miss old SWG.

MMO doesn''t mean only Groups/Guilds/PvP gaming.
It’s many people playing *different* game styles.

Most PvPers don't even want to play real PvP, they actually want the fluff. Real PvP is much like a FPS game. That general with the unlocks and RDX, is going to make that private his meatpuppet -- over and over and over (none of this safe zones and safe city crap. In PvP, watch your back, and don't count on "friendlies" to fly in to save you).

PvP in MMOs is showing off and trying to pick fights to act big (worse, not even PvP, now it's really guild vs guild).

SW without PvP would be... Not Star-Wars-Like, if I remember correctly, in the second movie there was a mass-slaughter... If they leave out PvP, they'll up like LotRO, war-based IP, PvE MMO...

To the OP:
I don't think that the hype over Bioware's MMO has to do so much with what their PvP formula will be. (not that I've heard of anyway) but more so with the fact that Bioware has been well known for telling compalling RPG stories (KOTOR.)
While I'm not a big fan of full on FFA PvP, I will admit that, one of the cool things I found from playing SWG Pre-CU, was the fact that you really DID have to worry over what city you went into.

If you went into empirial control city and discovered (even while covert) you were immediately PvP flagged and had to escape. You know, the way a real SW movie worked. Storm troopers didn't just say "Hey, is that Han Solo over in the bar? shouldn't we grab him? He is escorting a jedi after all" "nah nah, he's not attacking anyone anyway, and he's covert right now, so we can't do anything." So, at least that aspect even in the PvE servers was nice.

Whether Bioware will deliver the goods or not is a different story. I used to be hooked on to the hype of Bioware's upcoming MMO, but to be honest, after months of visiting other non-MMO related websites, the hype has kinda phased from me, so I don't honestly care either way what Bioware's MMO will be. I'm not even sure if I'll want to try it. I already spend a lot buying MMO's anyway, only to cancel after a month's period, so I guess I'll have to see whether it will be worht buying or not. Personally, I hope I get a Beta test first so I can test and see what they're up to.

This post doesn't make the same sense in this forum than in the one I posted it. I posted it in SWG forums, and since those are avid pvpers, it made sense, here, well, It's not the same.

I wouldn't either.  But why would it even occur to you to do so?  Bioware has almost no experience with PvP (except I think maybe in one of its earliest games), it's known for superb PvE, quests, stories, etc.

You can bet your bottom dollar that whatever they make will be polished and will work and will be beautiful and engaging.  But I wouldn't bet anything at all on any PvP content whatsoever.

Of course, they might surprise everybody.  Baldur's Gate itself was a huge surprise when it came out, as indeed was KOTOR, to some extent.

Myself, I drool whenever I think of an MMO set in the KOTOR universe, and I have all my fingers crossed that that's what it's going to be.  It's a definite winner as far as I am concerned, and since I'm one of those people who can take or leave PvP (enjoy it if it's there, not bothered if it isn't) my anticipation is unaffected by the presence or absence of PvP.
