you saw that on newegg or something didn't you. if you're going to buy a ibuypower brand from newegg, just go straight to their site and customize one without the shitty amd cpu, and 9600GT.

also, what's your budget? lol

Thanks for the reply...I don't mind spending around $1k, but obviously the less the better.  I was curious about how the amd processor equated to the Intel countepart - is there a significant difference? Also, from what I have read, the 9600's are not a bad card currently for the price when compared to others like the 8800...Is that untrue? Thanks again.

don't know the prices in the us, but here in europe 8800gt is nearly same price as 9600 and has the betetr performance. also the new ati 4850 seems to easily beat the 8800 ny good margins and even the 9800 in all benchmarks (only the new 9800+ thats coming next month is on par with the 4850) and is only priced slightly above the 8800 gts here in europe too. so i personally would gte the 4850 now if you want best performance in this price segment.

about the cpu, core2 architecture beats the amd architecture, but how big the differences are depends on which benchmark you are looking at. the amd is a solid processor, its  just not as fast as the intel ones. in my opinnion it mainly depends on what prices you are looking at, in low price sector you might get a better deal with a amd one.

You could get a pretty decent computer to run AoC if you're building it yourself for $1000. If you're going to buy it off ibuypower, $1000 isn't going to do you much good.

Cry Havoc, and let slip the trolls of war!

They still sell DDR2 800 memory or just use it in cheap pre-built crap?

Wow! Must be really cheap now.

I suppose it would be cheaper to go that route, however I saw this machine and thought it looked like a viable option to get current with today's technology at a reasonable price. I don't necessarily need to be right at the cutting edge - I just want something to adequately run games like AOC. Also, I appreciate the opinions of other gamers/tech folks. I welcome any additional input. Thanks!

Well, I mean if you're going to spend money, might as well get the most bang for your buck, especially if your budget is that tight. I'd say for $1500 or so you can get a near top of the line computer if you build it yourself.
