You get points for an honest answer.  I cant argue with that.  If you believe it will release just because you want it to, that is your right.  At least you are not making up reasons that I could argue about.  :P

Your're right. However since I could see people actually playing them at E3 and other public places including major gamesites/magazines, I at least knew those games existed, and that there would be something eventually released.

You're comparing Darkfall with big budget titles like AoC and WAR there. You really should be comparing Aventurine to other small outfits like the people behind Mortal or Fallen Earth etc.

along with the vaporware bashing they've already started getting from major sites,

One guy cries "poopy" ... then all the other idiots cry "poopy" too because they want to be in the cool crowd. That sums up the vapour-callers nicely I think.

Darkfall does not deserve it's "Vaporware" label. What sparked it was Aventurine taking over Razorwax five years ago or so and starting pretty much from scratch. All the poor emo kiddies then went off to in their bedrooms and shout "vaporware" because they had to wait for a bit longer.

and get them to show something more than screenshots that look like renders and videos which show nothing of any substance that could've been made with Blender on a bored Sunday afternoon.

Funny ... they look like in-game screenshots and in-game videos to me.

What's more likely, a game developer releasing vids and pics of the game that they've been working on for five years ... or a developer that has to fake in-game images because they have done nothing after five years?

And why would anyone use Blender? It's a user unfriendly piece of crap.

Oh, I offer a very big prize. If noone can tell, I tend to have a very big ego.

Why would I care about your personal faults?

So if this game were to actually launch in any kind of functional and playable state with even half of everything they've promised,

No, you'll just do what the trolls do in the AoC forums and claim that it isn't functional or playable. What's playable is up to personal opinion.

I would be taking a major blow from having to admit how wrong I was. Hell, I may have to leave the forums forever as the shame of it all would be too great.

Don't go emo on me. Where's your balls? (I have first dibs on your left one remember)

So we'll do this:

No Darkfall in 2008, kick it and Aventurine to the curb.

No. As long as there is evidence that Darkfall is undergoing development it will remain here on mmorpg. I'm sure the mmorpg administrators will remove it if it stops development. They don't need Vapor-trolls and bored haters telling them what to do.

Darkfall releases in 2008, I'll leave and even retire my moniker which I use in more places than just this one, after apologizing profusely to the fanbois for my lack of faith.

Fair enough?

Why would we care what one vapor-troll does? You're an anonymous person on a forum. The only thing that distinguishes you from everyone else here is the size of your sig. [sarcasm] Oh, no! Your sig will no longer be seen on forums! How terrible! [/sarcasm]

You need to broaden your gaming horizons somewhat. There are a lot of games that can display a battle with a couple of hundred peeps with good frame-rates. Operation Flashpoint and Mount & Blade (with a battle sizer mod) come to mid. WW2Online even. Of course most mmorpg's can't do that because everyone wants to sculpt their character's faces etc 'just so' with oodles of slider bars. Having one head model rendered 200 times on screen takes less computing power than 200 different head models rendered all at once on the screen.

We already know from past dev updates that those levels of character customisation have been sacrificed for better performance. Performance is everything to them. I suspect that creating your character's face in Darkfall will be little more than choosing a face texture that gets slapped on a standard head model.

Those graphics are pretty damned good Friction.  They're not great, but having the ability to get 150FPS everywhere and 30-60FPS with 200v200 battles on an average PC in a seamless world is rediculous.

It had never been done before in any MMOs before.  You can see games struggling to even get 100v100 battles, let alone 200v200 on average computers!

Not only that, but if you take DarkFall's AI, graphics, and seamless world into effect, it just makes it more and more unlikely that they actually have the ability to do this.  Until they actually prove all of these big statements, I refuse to believe anythign that Tasos says.

They claim to release inside of 2008 so we shall see. But don't take the screenshots to mean THAT will be what the graphics will look like in large battles. If they're scaling the graphics like in well optimised games then they will cut down poly-counts and texture sizes automatically.

We'll see.

I voted yes, on a hunch and hope that they do finally pull it off.  No, I've seen nothing to really support that belief, but one can hope.

lol your comparing Mount&Blade and WW2Online graphics to DF ... thats cute .... And on a average machine if you made a 200vs200 battle in M&B YOU WOULD NOT GET 30-60 FPS. You would need a pretty good machine to do that. This game i can already tell will fail, just due to the fact they havent properly tested it, and if they do release this year. I sense a Vangaurd epic fail release.

Using the battle sizer utility, the biggest battles I've played in M&B are 100 vs 100 battles and I still get good frame rates (30-40 fps according to fraps).

Having said that my computer does not suck. People with sucky computers are stuck with playing  WoW.

Nah, they can keep the forums. Just remove the links to Aventurine, the hype meters and the game from the game list, like they did with Mourning, Thrones of Chaos, and Star Trek: Online.

Heh, I wish I was there for those forum days....they seemed intense

Oh they were!!!

Then MMORPG.com's new staff reared their ugly head and locked the most famous MMO thread in the site's history... a multi-year thread about 1 singular game with Developers from 4 different controlling companies and history of links and information.

its BS that they locked it, it wasnt being derailed or trolled, there was no flame wars except the massive one against colton and Mourning. But w.e i cant remember the last time i ever agreed with the forum mods here.

The thread in question was locked recently due to a number of posts that shared a user's personal, private information without the users consent.  These posts were of course deleted, thus why you probably didn't see them :).  The thread may be unlocked in the future, once the air has had some time to clear.  We understand and respect the importance of that thread, and thus it was locked and not deleted, but the privacy and security of all of our users is of utmost value.

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on.

No offense, the "user" in question admitted in multiple places to having several accounts.  The original person the thread fought against (Egomancer) tried to sue MMORPG.com for private information multiple times in order to shut that thread, and other similar threads, down.

The new user was a little more slick with his dealings with MMORPG.com, even then Dana Massey saw through the veil and left the thread open for more information to be posted.  Even with ads for the new title everywhere, Dana stood fast and allowed the thread to continue.
