Kinda weird reading these forums.

On one side you have a new guy enjoying his new game, no matter his taste for beer women or mmorpg's.

And on the other side you have this vet devoted to a game that was almost as important to him than real life career.

No middle ground, no prisoners, I mean gee is it so wrong to purchase a game(mmorpg) play the game say for 2-3 months then be done with it and move to the next thing.

Does every game have to be the "end of all", "I wanna play this title for the rest of my life", "yes honey you can divorce me but leave me my game account"?

When I play an mmo I set myself some goals, a level to acheive a status, gear set, etc..Then if I have fun reaching my goal at my own pace, once I reach it I look around...Is this still fun? Is there another fun game around?

Then I move on or not, it's that simple. If you ask me every mmo I played sucked in a way, none of them could compete in term of self accomplishment when compared to retail videogames, not only that they all cost more than your regular videogame...

Just think about what kind of critics Crysis would receive if you had to grind herbs, if you had to do the same level 5-10 times before unlocking the next one.If you had to pay the game 50$+15$/month untill you completed the game :D

Yeah, I played like twenty hours a week give or take in the winter and that dwindled down to 5-10 once it started to warm up outside (I live in Minnesota, downtown Minneapolis to be exact, but our winters are cold).

The point is that I didn't sit there playing TR for forty hours a week.  As far as guild leaders go I was pretty casual.  But there came a point where I absolutely dreaded logging into TR for my weekly unit muster which was all of five or ten minutes.

And then I quit.  I'm glad I did.  Eight months after launch and Destination Games still has absolutely no repeatable content in the game and has no idea what the hell they're going to do one week from now let alone a coherent development plan.

Haha, go figure, after yesterday, after the most recent update Tabula Rasa has had, I logged in to selection my East Coast server, but there aren't any servers!

Lol, wtf man, just wtf.  I wrote them a letter at their support center, I'm sure it isn't anything serious, but karma is a motherfucker sometimes....

So now I'm playing free demos on Xbox Live instead......I'll repost when they've got it fixed for anyone at all that has the slighest bit in ineterest left out there.....

But yeah, after the first 1-2 days of the trial I wanted it, so I bought it online from the website($50...I didn't want to wait to pick it up somewhere else), you have to use a credit card when you sign up to get the free month...instead of getting a one month of trial time, you pay for your first month (or 3 months, 6 months, I took 1 month), and then you get one month free for paying to play.  I wasn't impressed with that part much, but I liked what the game had to offer so it was alright.

The game is pretty fun, I am on the Ranger path right now on the way to be a Sniper at lv 30...they get torqueshell guns...the shots from those accelerate the further away you are, causing more damage at a greater distance...so I'm kind of excited to see how that will work out with my gimped processor, haha.  But the rest of the game like the quests are like your typical MMORPG quest from like, WoW or LOTR, with the little quest banners (these ones happen to be radios) above the NPCs' heads, after you finish it you get to select what reward you want.

The thing that caught my attention about the game thus far was the point and shoot with the mouse, again it IS the only recent Sci-Fi MMO that I've gotten into, so the change was/is nice...however, there are some glitches and bugs; in the storage footlockers sometimes my gear that is stored won't be in there when I open it up, then I have to exit out of the game completely and restart it from the Desktop.  Also, sometimes the game will crash for no reason by itself back out to the desktop.  I've gotten stuck in the background a few times, but the /stuck command usually bails me out no sweat.

The community seems unusually small to me...comparitively speaking, but I figure its just where the game is on the newer end of the spectrum, but usually whenever I have a question people are usually pretty helpful for the most part....unless it's about effin' Pravus Research Facility, then...well...we won't even get into it...

The map is the most complicated part of the game...it is topographical.....not just bird's eye view, where you can run to the map and you are there.  Well, sort of....the spot does still appear on the map, the little radio, but if it is higher it has a little arrow pointing up, and if lower a little arrow pointing down.  This is where it gets tricky.  The entrance to get to where the quest icon is, can be literally ANYWHERE, I'm talking halfway across the map.  Really, it's not that big of a problem, it just can get frustrating when you have to spend a big portion of time climbing back and forth up and down over the ledge of a lake cake that the entrance is on the middle ledge that you have to take a path that circles around the opposite side, all the way back up around.....sigh....Ok, I'll stop.  That's about the only thing I have against the game so far.

Anyways, I'll stop rambling, I would def. recommend it to anyone who would like a change from the stale realm of dime a dozen MMORPG's, just be prepared to deal with a few kinks.

Waiting for SW:TOR / Playing WAR

7/01/08 8:22:05 PM#29

I enjoyed reading every word in this section of forum!

I usualy dont trust  b.s. that some people wrote on forums... But i find truth in all posts here, no b.s. ...

Im playing TR trial, and its great!

On other hand, i dont know in what state will game change at 45-50 lvl... im kind of player who play only one game (so when it comes to MMO -buy it, play it, and then just drop it... dont work for me), so im in dillema, to buy it or not... It is realy stupid to do nothing after 2 months...

All agree that game is great at the begining, and all agree that at high lvl`s game is crapy :S

?

buy it...
dont buy it...

Fun thread and good reading as well.

I played TR myself from beta until February, got the CE as well. I had a blast in the game. I loved the battles, defending or retaking outposts was really fun.

But after a few months it became a bit too repetetive. I lost interest, cancelled my sub and put the box on the shelf.

I'm keeping an eye on the forums, hoping that the game will get the changes and attention it so well deserves from the developers. We need a sci-fi MMO that can compete with the best fantasy MMOs.

OP, enjoy the game. There's much fun to be had in TR and it would be a shame to miss out on it.

Haha.

Beer I'm sure these guys are nice in RL but hay I'm sure you know that, but yeah I'm one who loves the game.

But of course I just got into it 1 1/2 months ago. But then now there is way more content that a non newb will not look at any more or most of the vets are haveing fun still but it is the WAY you play MMORPG's that depends what games you will have fun in or for how long.

I suggest you listen to the awesome podcast Tabula cast, they love thae game and I rather listen to someone who likes it when I'm new to it. www.rgtr.com/news/latest_news/tom_potter_on_tabulacast.html You can say I'm a fanboy of TabulaCast, but actualy I like PodCasts in general too. I recomend them when playing any MMO in order not to get bumbed out.

Best line I've read so far about TR.

I signed up and played World of Warcraft for 2 years, medium-core. it was fun. I got tired of it. I'm away from WoW for 7 or so months now, and I don't miss it all that much.

I am still in my 3 day trial of TR, and am thinking about subscribing. Whether I stick with it very long will depend on a number of subjective things such as: how I enjoy the level progression, how I feel about the PvE and PvP elements, how much I like or dislike the community I encounter and/or guild(s) I join.

Theh bottom line is, if I'm having fun, I'll stick with it. (Zeus knows, I spent more time in WoW NOT having fun, and don't intend to do THAT again.)

Amen brother, I can relate, first tier 1 & 2 on WoW server, yep way back!Tier 1 was kinda fun to achieve but tier 2 was just the same frigging thing in a different instance...Not fun.

I played CoX for like 4 months then left played a couple games (online-offline) then played back 1-2 months.

I just love playing an mmo for 2-3 months then another one then back to first.Look at it this way, each major mmo companies add content every 2-5 months so a good rotation ensure me a great gameplay no matter which mmo I play!

Another thing I learned, never play a mmo right out the door give it 6-12 months.
