Ambition and hope are just a noose around my F#$%ing neck.

I had huge hopes for AOC. Thats all i can say. Yesterday my entire guild decided that AOC was too much of a fuck-up to play anymore. It actually ruined my whole day at work. So much time invested.. so many dashed hopes.

The truth is.. Funcom is a piece of shit company that never can produce in time to keep subs. AO was a disaster, and it seems they haven't learned anything in the past 4 years or so.

Feel free to flame, but after getting 2 characters to 80.. having nothing to do essentially but PVE raid on a PVP server in a game that was originally supposed to be PVP focused, myself and our 20ish guild members have decided that FUNCOM has miserably failed to provide any sort of worthwhile PVP experience.

On top of this.. the patches every 4 days where they essentially retool entire classes make the game unbearable to play. Everything that had been patched until now was never properly tested.. and should have been in  beta. People will say. blah blah GG you.. goodbye, we dont need you.. or just wait, it will be good in a few months. My response to this is, NO. Just plain NO. PvP systems are being revamped as we speak to make them Karma based and more carebear gear grindish than ever. AOC failed the second it decided that PVE was important enough to start changing classes based on PVE balance. It takes 3 days played to get a char to 80.. in other words.. no one gives a fuck about lvling balance. Killing mass mobs is easy so stop balancing classes b/c of their ability to kill mobs. Balance should have been PvP oreiented which is obviously not the case since almost all balances being made were to chars that they deemed OP in pve. Single target DPS, especially by classes that sucked in PVE were left in tact, bugged as hell. In a PVP game, PVP guilds decide on spec groups in order to roll around together. You cant make spec groups when every four days you have to shit yourself wondering what AOC is going to patch to radically change everything that you do.

GG Funcom. You actually made the game fail with your shitty patches. I can honestly say that if you had left the game as it was when it released... and focused only on adding end game PVP content ( as of now, they've fixed dungeons.. but what have they done with seiges. NOTHING. they added like what 1 NPC. This is after they acknowledged how important PVP is to them in that bullshit letter)

What have i learned?

Never ever ever play a FUNCOM game again. Id rather play crap ass Korean grind games with 0 content that at least focus around PVP.

Back to Shadowbane.. and back to waiting for Warhammer.

2 @ 80 already?

Geez man what did you do play for 10 hours at a time?

I get 2 hours if im lucky on a good day.

Wow so Ao is a disaster? Is that why its free to play and STILL MAKES A PROFIT!!!!

A year after launch AO won game of the year.I predict the same accolades for AoC.

Lemme save you some time in the future. When Warhammer comes out say after a month just remove all references in the above statement and insert Warhammer and EA/MYTHIC where needed.

Cause ya know what?MMO"S change a lot.The classes even change over time.Guess you didnt know that though.

lol that was my exact thought.

OP - get a life.  Two level 80 characters?  Yep AoC is way too easy to level... bring back Asheron's Call speed of leveling where it takes a year to even get 'high-level' and the concept of max level doesn't even exist.

Guild issues ruined your whole day?  Sounds like your life is more garbage than AoC.  And if you are heading to Shadowturd to find the perfect game... good luck

I dont mean rewarding by gear. i mean rewarding by giving me the feeling that i have somehow inconvenieced the pleyer i kill to a somewhat large extent. Be it by travel time, loss of gear/cash or by just taking him out of the fight for 10-15 mins. This style of PVP needs to happen in open world.. not in instances.. and if people choose to avoid it, create reasons to open world pvp. IE 1 instance so you cant just go and swtich when you are getting your face owned. Overall there is no risk/reward (again see above for my definition of reward) system in place. Sadly enough, the system that they are now hyping with their ALL-Star marketting team is about as appealing to a PvPer as two girls/one cup is to an OBCD hypochondriac.

lamens terms: when i kill someone i want them to face crush their keyboard b/c it sucks to get owned. At the moment, the worst  thing you can make someone do is switch instances. totally not satisfying.

I 100% agree with the highlighted part of the quote.  This is the reason I played AoC, to PvP.  When I played AoC there was no fear of what is around the next corner, no motivation to attack other players.  Once the freshness of the combat system/new game waned I couldn't be bothered to attack other players unless I was attacked myself.  Hell the only time I attacked someone was because i wanted to get to the other side of the instance and used PvP death as a quick means of travel.  The funny thing is a full loot penalty would work wonders in AoC due to the poor itemisation.

Currently playing : WoW - WotLK Beta - LOTRO | Will be playing : WAR - WotLK

You know, I recall just about any game "adding more bugs with each patch."  Any game.  Dev teams try to fix something, break another.

Its life.

umm actually 10 hours in one day isnt that much if im not working.

Classes do change. The changes we're seeing here are drastic changes that affect an entire definition of a class. Now that kind of shit should be in Beta.. unfortunately we are in beta atm so 2 times a week we have to hold our breath and see what kind of crack FC is smoking this week.

As for the greifing comment. Since when does a risk/reward system have anything to do with greifing.  In UO when you came near me.. i killed you and your horse. Yea sucked.. you had to pay what 700 gold for a new horse.. oh noes. No gameplay impediment.. nothing but a risk.  In SB when i rolled your group.. you lost your inventory, some durability, and spawned by at your city. That gave me at least 15 mins of not having to worry about you. In DAoC , when you died and didn't get ressed you had quite a wait/run to get back to the fight, unless your home keep was being camped. In RFo, you lost chip wars you lost control of the Crag which was used to afk mine for 8 hours whilst sleeping. Risk/reward is not the same as game impediment. In fact i view you spawning over and over as more detrimental to gameplay than anything. Instances in AOC were created for ONE PURPOSE. Server stability. They did not create them for any other reason than they wanted to ease the loads on their servers. I dont spawn camp. I dont grief. I kill you if you are near me. If you are 60 lvls below me, have some respect and avoid me. If i see you near me you die. I want that death to suck enough to make it so next time you choose rather to avoid me than risk it. RISK REWARD.. hmm getting the picture yet? Read any of the LORE? Read any of the the Devs blogs on their "ideas" of the Conan world. What started out as a brutal harsh world has turned into carebear fest where hardcore equates to nothing more than extra blood on fatalities and some tits.

As for exploiting. Maybe you cant read. No exploiting was done for lvling. The game is just plain EASY to lvl up in. All sploits were done for crap gear once i was already 80. Not trying to hide it.. shit everyone was doing it.. everynight there was huge group of people lined up at the Oasis zone entrance  in PLS. Heres some good advice. Just b/c someone lvls faster than you, dont cry Sploit or Hax, learn to accept that some people have A. more time B. more experience C. more dedication and D. less of a life than you.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger, that which does kill us makes us dinner.

I really wanted to play this game but when I found out Funcom was involved I decided to wait a year before buying it. I bought AO when it first came out and that was a total mess. I figure in a year or so I MIGHT take a chance....depending if Stargate isn't out by then.

I like this game, i havent had any of the problems with crashes or anything else preformance wise.  I can understand how people can feel like they were cheated by Funcom and i hope you find a game that suites you and makes you happy.  The only problem i have is that everyone that has a problem with this game has the need to make there own post about this so we have 1000 threads all about the same problem.  I just think you guys should all get together and make one thread about why or how the game sucks.  It almost makes me feel sorry for WAR coming out cause if something goes wrong then its like an atomic bomb of treads all about the same problems.

A bit of nostalgia. AOC has been a surprise too it seems.

Originally posted by Funcom After careful evaluation, Funcom found that the 27th of June was a realistic date for release of Anarchy Online. If this date causes concern within the community, we can reassure everyone that we will only release a game that meets the high standards Funcom products have always held. The team feels very confident that they can finish a high quality product by this date. We are certain the version shown at E3 will please and surprise all who are able to attend.

Here is a review from when ao came out. You can replace ao with aoc to see the meaning.

With the clusterfuck that is Patch 12.6, I’m not certain the word “incompetent” fully illustrates the disaster that Funcom continually perpetuates upon its paying customer base. With literally hundreds upon hundreds of bugs (more being released by the hour), a skeletal wraith of a customer support system, and a habitually ignored tester base, the realization that Anarchy Online was released at least six months to a year too early is quickly becoming apparent to all. On the official forums, long time posters, players, and beta-testers are fleeing faster than CIA operatives in Saigon circa April, 1975 (the similarities are stunning).

Quite simply, the game and the company were not ready to set foot on the MMOG stage, with its glaring spotlight and high expectations. (Who am I kidding? Our expectations are so low, we’d play Minesweeper Online if it had great graphics and ample boobage).

This week, players on the test server cried unto the heavens, pleading with Funcom not to release the patch; that it was buggy, unplayable, a disaster waiting to happen. In true MMOG style, the company decided to go with the patch as is. On a Friday no less! Class, would someone like to explain to Funcom why Friday is not a good patch day?

Of course, official comments from Funcom acknowledging they were releasing a whole new batch of bugs with the patch doesn’t exactly help their case. To paraphrase: “Yes, there are bugs in this patch. But, they’re not as bad as other bugs! We promise!”
