I played today and was in two groups and it was interesting contrasting the two experiences. (Both were in Crypt of Nadox- LoY)

The first felt fun, we moved around Nadox- killing an assortment of mobs.

The second was soul-destroying. We sat in one location while one person pulled over and over and did the same thing over and over.

I wasn't very keen on the Ldon dungeons and the move, move, move approach nor the instances in WoW where you plow through to the end However, when I now go back and play the other extreme of Sit'n'Grinding I've now found that considerably worse.

"I play MMORPGs to feel FREE, yet I am always in chains."

I enjoy both, and you can do both in Everquest.

I like sit n grind because, if the mobs are interesting, if the dungeon is interesting, and if there are surprises (such as a named-mob spawning), it is fairly exciting.  I can work out, do some cardio, and even listen to some audio books while sit n grinding.

What I love most about Everquest is the amount and variety of content.  Not just regarding solo, group, and raid but locations.  That is, one place an awesome mask drops and in another great boots.  In another city a named mob rarely spawns but drops great gear.  I like the ... options... variety... no sense of Dungeon A to Dungeon B to Dungeon C and then raid at Dungeon X at max level.  Although an argument could be said that hot zones has done this, it really has not for my style of gameplay.   It seems varied, and I can stick it out at level 65 for a while and get some AA points up.

Interestingly, I like EQ's model and system better than any other game.  My only issue with EQ is the focus that went from a group and community game to a raider end-game type of game.   The community is not like what it was even four or so years ago.  Based on General Chat attacks I have observed, I can say here and now that EQ has the worst community of any game I have ever played.  The drama, however, seems to be nine out of ten times associated with classic or socalled progression guilds.

I also play both EQ and WoW and like both for different reasons .... I don`t mind Grinding with a group n EQ  as long as it`s moving at a brisk pace if it`s not it can be brutal ... but you can always drop group and find another ... it would be nice if SOE would change the hot zones every month or so to keep things fresh ... I have to disagree though on LDoN and WoW Dungeons I like both . I wish SOE would revamp LDoN`s  maybe for new players. To make things interesting for new players as well as teaching the group aspect of the game... I think that is the problem with the community is we can`t keep enough new players .... in most cases a new player is not going to stick around to see how great the game is later if they cant find a group at level 25

^ they're changing the hotzones soon, after this legacy promotion to:

20 Lake of Ill Omen
25 The Feerrot
30 Frontier Mountains
35 Timorous Deep
40 Lower Guk
45 Wakening Lands
50 Colbalt Scar
55 Blackfeather Roost
60 Plane of Storms
65 Sunderock Springs
70 Riftseeker's Sanctum

I'm still trying to figure out where the hell Blackfeather Roost is.(let alone Sunderock Springs or Riftseeker's Sanctum)

Definitely agree with that.

Ew, the Wakening Lands? I just ran through there recently to get to skyshrine and it was desolate of any mobs whatsoever except for the occasional red con giants. That place will "not" be a popular hunting ground, seriously.

Hi! My name is paper. Nerf scissors, rock is fine.

Isn't blackfeather roost somewhere you stop on the way to the OT on the boat from Oasis? Or maybe I'm confusing it with something else.
