A level cap is the last thing that I am worried about. What is more important is whether or not there are plenty of activities to take part in from beginning to endgame. Then, plenty of stuff to do in the end game. Finally, and most importantly is whether the trip is fun or not. Hell lvl cap could be 40 or 4000 for all I care, just as long as it's fun and packed with content. Two weeks to reach the cap? Most likely, there will be a good number of people that do. That is 336 hours when you think about it. |

True true... they could keep the pvp levels and just name them ranks, and give them rank titles like captain, knight, scout and the like. Pve levels could go though, just do spells and such like in Guild Wars where you quested for the skills and spells. TheRvR "levels" are called Renown Ranks, and they have different titles associated with them. They jsut also unlock renown abilites, armor, tactics and morale. |

Level 1 to (insert level cap) is basically to slowly introduce you to your characters skills and ablilities and learn to play.
It seems on the surface that Mythic have many ways for you to continue character growth after you hit the 'level cap' of 40.
This was something that appealed to me when I read it.
Or rather something like AO where the level cap is what? 220 now?... I can't even begin to imagine starting that grind from 1!!!! |

There are many many many things to do at 40. TOK unlocks(titles, trophies, skills etc), guild levels, renown rank, and of course the best rvr till your hearts content :) Theres more of course but i think people get the idea. |

I really don't care what the lvl cap is or how long it takes to get there. Like every other MMO the game starts at max lvl whatever that is. Leveling has been reduced to hamster wheel solo quest grinding in every game because people don't have the patience to get a group together. That and the fact that it is hard to find 5 or 6 decent players that can play for more than 45 mns without their mom telling them to get off the computer.... |

I'm sure there are times when you can spare at least 45mins like skeptical said, if you can't devote yourself to the MMO for at least 45 mins you shouldn't join a group. O_o o_O |

Lets say You have two MMO´s and both need 2.000.000 XP to the level cap. You can now go and chop that into pieces to make that a game that has a level 200 cap (insert big hot air commercial "WE HAVE LEVEL 200 IN OUR GAME" here) or a game that has a 40 level cap. Or anything in between. It says nothing about quality or speed of leveling... |

I hope one day mmo's in general won't have levels. Great way of dividing communities and an absurd way of keeping players with an stupid goal. |

You have 1-40 on the standard levels, and then there is another Realm Rank system, similar to PvP levels that will go up to 80 least time it was speculated. The Realm Rank system level cap can be adjusted fairly easily from what I remember... I remember when RR13 was highest in DAoC... not sure if it is still that. If your goal is max level, you will miss ALOT of content trying to get there. Once you try to enter content you are too high for, you will become a chicken. So for those who like to level quickly, I imagine they will have alot of alts. |

Sound like there is alot to do in the game to make me keep moving. Do you think that the game will come out with alot stuff unfinished? |

yes. of course it will. On the bright side, they seem to be TELLING us what will be unfinished.
They wanted orcs to grow as they leveld up, and dwarfs to get longer beards. They have said that while they still want that feature, it won't make it in at launch. thats one example of something unfinished. But as long as the core features are there it should be fine. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

Originally posted by LiquidWolf Think of your climb to 40 as part one of the game, and Mythic learned from DAOC that players don't care so much for this part. Also adapted from DAOC is the Realm rank system (called Reknown in WAR?) and its part 2 of the game. If they really follow the DAOC model, the upper tier layers of this phase will be virtually unreachable other than for the truly hardcore PVP player. (although, if you put enough time into it, every play in theory can reach the top, but few will in practice) Its this upper tier that makes the game fun, because higher levels of reknown unlock extra skills and you are forced to chose between them. (at least, that assumes they follow the DAOC model, not sure how it will play out in WAR)

All i could ask for is that my orc will have countless of opponents to plow down and get plowed down by while merrily shouting "WAAAAGH" |

However, I would suspect that by the end of 09 to mid-2010, a year to a year and a half after launch, the casual players will see the top levels of RvR. It seems to me that if you make the 80 RvR levels too steep a good chunk of the player-base could be disenfranchised. At the same time though if you make those 80 levels too easy then the PvP players will be disenfranchised. It's a balancing act to be sure. I think most rational people assume you won't log in with 10 mins and join a group. What I was replying to in his post what the comment on people suddenly having to log for an unexpected reason. When you work all the time, stuff happens, you gotta go. That was my point, RL is more important. I'm sure there will be plenty of times when I can spare substantially more than 45 mins. ------------------ well i'm 35 and have a PhD in science, and then 10 years experience in bioinformatics... you? |
