looking at the 12 month trend it is pretty much where it was a year ago, and it has seen much worse

still I don't think the future is all that bright for them and if you want to make some coin a put option on their stock might yield a nice profit

there is always a risk involved in business, isn't it?

I say don't jump on the MMO bandwagon if you don't understand your consumer target. But other companies like Funcom are doing the same thing because they know there are customers that are willing to pay for an unfinished and buggy product, just because it is "normal" for a MMO.

Don't expect to see improvements in MMOs anytime soon.  That's why I recommend to get a free trial version. Beta testing is not even funny, but if you can't wait for official release, that may be a good move.

I have to disagree on your blanket statement. Sure there are companies like SOE and Funcom that think they can sell a lot of boxes of a half ass product and it will be a success. But then ther are companies like Cryptic and Turbine that realize that the real money is in long term retention. The problem is consumers will see the flash of the pretty graphics in games like AoC or believe the hype that the SOE ladles on with a shovel and spend their 50 bucks only to be frustrated after the glitz wears thin.

Hi, I play AoC and I read  the forums regularly.  A lot of people are quitting, so rest assured that the rumors of dropped subs is true.  Every day there are several posts about people quitting and there are a butt ton  bugs and issues and stuff that isn't even in the game.  I don't know that AoC will fail, but if you have any AoC stocks, I suggest selling them just prior to the 360 launch when they peak.  It won't take that long for people to realize that they been screwed.

that high volume selloff on 6/19 is very worrysome. average daily volume is around 400k. interesting that 4 million shares (very high volume) trade not long after launch taking the share price with it. profit takers (long term) would almost certainly have held out until the bulk of retail boxe sales from consoles was over. profit taking almost always sells into demand (rising price). of course worlwide markets are weak and we dont know the true nature of that selloff, someone might have bought in at $20 and had to cover real estate losses? who knows for sure. its certainly not absolute doom but as an investor i most certainly would not be long funcom . someone on the inside might be a bit worried.

Build up hype to the point where stocks are at a high, sell stocks after release but before problems are noticed and players start leaving causing stocks to drop due to low recurring subs, make a nice chunk of change.

Pretty easy to understand, actually.
