OK a month ago I was one of the guys to point out that Conan used improper graphics for an MMORPG. Data manipulation for MMORPG are completely different than OFF line games. You can't compare MMORPG with Half Life. Unexpected data graphics needs to be uploaded all the time into video cards from central RAM AND HARD DISK ! new players you meet need to be UPLOADED from HD all the time. Results: frames drops IF you use TOO high graphics requirements. HENCE ! Instances and preloading of zones in Conan. I was laughed at by the fanboys. I predicted CONAN would show his really ugly face when Siege battles would be implemented with 48vs48 fights... PROVING that the copys of zones used were NEVER above the 40/50 persons/instance. Yeah They laughed and didn't believe me. And what do we hear? Immens drops in FPS when people "try" to fight in those zones. 8800GT card coming down to a cripple! Just like I predicted. OF COURSE the so called "real time combat system" doesn't help either. With no proper timers on it, it just means quadruple server/client manipulations compared to timed combat: resulting in 8 x more lag. The ugly face is out now. Conan just decipitated his own head. Graphics WILL be possible in this kind of 100 persons combat play IF the "common" computer will have 16 GByte central adressable RAM and 2 GByte Video Ram AND a change to the "real time combat" system. The sad thing is: THOSE ARE professional programmers out there ! Have fun customers of FunCOM. I cancelled two weeks ago. Should be a GOOD lesson for every developper !!! And a lesson for those who think graphics PRIME gameplay. |

You like WoW ok fine we get it but please stop trying to make sure the Genre never tryas to advance past that limited scale. yes WoW did well it went the safe route it made sure that its graphics were low enough to play on even the lightest of computers. WoW is fun for awhile but after awhile some of us really want a bit more then kiddy graphics and the same old same old. For many AoC doesn't hit the mark, but at least they did try, and lets face it Blizzards not even trying anymore their just milking the cash cow while doing as little as possible not to rock the boat. I mean comon WoW's been out how long and they haven't put in even one new class (WotLK won't give a new class either just tack 20 levels on Death knight on the other classes) As as far as new races how hard was it really for them to reskin the nightelves, and call them Bloodelves?
So is it your hate fueling you or are you Just here trying to say "I Told you so" as loudly and as many times a possible till someone actually believes you? Oh and BTW I am still having fun, when I stop I can cancill at any time just as i did with WoW. Funcoms doing a hell of alot more then Blizzard seems to be. Also in all truth I'd rather support a company that trys something even if they don't hit the mark 100% then a company thats obviously just milking their customers while doing as little as possible.

The discussion was about graphics Sir and why these kind of graphics are not appropriate to open ended seamless worlds of MMORPG. It is not even a question of Wow vs Conan. It is a question of "lets open some eyes WHY there are limits to progamming techniques and WHY LOTRO graphics are appropriate and NOT these kind of graphics solution without HAMPERING gameplay."

when EQ2 was released, many shortsighted posters said the same that you are saying now. |

Form over function is the motto of the new age and it's rather disgusting. I, myself, am going to UO Divinity. |
