just been thinking but... what if players of the same faction could duel each other within inter-city arena's.

just 1v1 battles, pretty much classic dueling.

a better idea of what im talking about would be to take WoW's arena's, un-instance them, and throw them inside the middle of capital citys. Make true gladiators.

i wouldnt want to see any form of a reward for it other than maybe some tome unlocks and a title or two. And maybe some bragging rights among your own faction.

make dueling much more public and eventful, make watching duels interesting, rather than a small crowd hanging around somewhere dueling the small population that wants a quick duel over and over.

and instead of choosing your opponent,  your throw against each other randomly and you better hope you've got the class advantage. an unbiased selection for duels.

i couldnt really see long que's for it. maybe set up 2 to 3 arena spots unlockable by leveling up your city. the duels themselves shouldnt take longer than a minute each, perhaps less pending on match-ups.     make it scale with lower levels say withing a 2 level difference?

2-3 in each city would be 6-9 arena's going at once.

make the arena's random so if you land your own race's arena you get a minor passive bonus to give you a slight edge.

just a thought.

My dog ate your homework.

This idea's been cropping up occasionally on dedicated Warhammer forums and the majority of players seem to like it. Knowing that devs have this habit of listening to their future players quite closely I wouldn't be surprised if it gets implemented sooner or later...

The consensus is that these "arenas" would have to be

- not instanced

- have no rewards to them whatsoever except casual fun and bragging rights

- located in major cities

- have some room around them for spectators

Another cool variation of the idea would be to have a FFA area to be used for training where you could have 6v6 or larger fights. These would be really useful for practicing and demonstration of group formations and tactics in a controlled environment... and would add quite a bit of flavor and the feeling of ever-present war to the capitals.

10 man Arthas? No thanks.

OMG Legendary Bow! Rogue Weapon!

I would personally never use it, I hate dueling and arena style matches, but have nothing against it's implementation. Just as long as there are no rewards for it, and you can spectate.

No no no no no!

Warhammer isn't about pissing about bashing your own "realm" mates in the face. It's about kicking the snoot out of the orcs!

We don't need another WoW rehash. Besides if all we wanted was another FPS there are tons of them that do it better.

I'm going to pretend like I didn't see/read this thread so I won't have to explode.

just make sure to NEVER, EVER talk about putting an arena-like system anywhere in WAR at all.

Let me get this straight, in a game that allows you to kill enemy toons for xp, loot and renown etc, you want to kill freindly toons for no reward?

That, while other players are pushing back the enemy in an effort to capture the enemy's capital for uber loot, special quests and rare events...you're standing around in town waiting to duel!?!?

Oh, wait I get it...duel until the capital falls then go and reap the rewards of other's effort.

Well I dont think they'd be reaping much reward. You get rewarded from the effort throughout your time in the game.

He didn't mean arena like WoWs arena system, he meant arena like a place to do something similar to WoWs duel system.  Which I think is great, it was fun to mess around with friends, and practice new specs, or test your new skills.

L2 had an arena where all death penalties were removed and you respawned RIGHT there.  so you could hang out, start fights and mess around.  Not to mention mini player organized tournaments with... no reward other than pride.

And don't say it doesn't fit with lore, what self respecting orc doesn't smack around the smaller orcs every once in awhile?

When the capital falls, quests and other events open up to the opposing faction regardless of whether they actually participated in the city's collapse or not.

I can see some of the reaons why people would want to have some form of Arena/Duel system.  I can also see the downside of people turning into wallflowers and not helping in the war effort.  Rather than get into that nasty debate tho!  I think the bigget problem I ould foresee with this mechanic is that as has been pointed out many times, the game is not balanced for 1v1 pvp.  It is balanced for RvR group batting.  If a dueling mechanic were introduced, as fun as it MAY be, it would introduce another source of complaint and whining... which we already see enough of.
