In my opinion, this makes it look better: /setfog 200000, 400000, 120, 120, 240 Just my opinion __________________________________________________ |

For example, Misthaven is suppose to be very spooky, misty with creatures making soons in the distance that you can't see. If you use the /setfog command the zone becomes clear as day :( There are other places, especially on Qalia where you can see for miles because of the arid enviroment. |

while for panoramic views and scenaries, setting fog to unlimited looks nice, i like the "feel" of the fog and weather distortions for the most part.

Yeah I just discovered this the other night, it's a really great tweak that has a huge quality impact on the graphics, and on modern machines, hardly any performance hit at all. Another nice one is to do the Shader 3.0 tweak (in vgclient.ini - there's a thread about it in the Vanguard forums). Basically, Vanguard does have some Shader 3.0 functionality (it always has had potentially, but it was enabled a while ago), so if you have a Shader 3.0 card, you can turn this on. It doesn't make a massive difference, but if you have everything on max/ultra/super anyway and release the 3.0 functionality, you can look close at your character you can see that the 3-d-ness of the armour detail and other little details is actually pretty darn good (almost as good as AoC), and the shading generally a bit smoother in places. Once the new characters are done, and the animations smoothed out a bit and synced better with the combat, then Vanguard is pretty much finished imho (apart from the adding of more content), and definitely a top class, good looking modern game, with deep, rewarding, sandboxy gameplay. |

Why do you guys keep rezzing this thing? /setfog 999999 is going to remove ALL of the fog giving the game a very unreal look. Don't use it unless you want the game to look like a Fisher Price playset. Those numbers are distance units 999999 is one unit short of the 10km max view in game. 100000 is 1km.
there are 2 distance settings /setfog 100000, 400000 for example, the rest are color commands. (you do have to change the colors if you like it. The settings i use 120,120, 240 deepen the colors quite a bit) I use 75000, 300000. It looks really nice because you get the different layers of fog in the distance getting thicker as you go. (meaning the fog starts at three quarters of a Km and becomes its normal density at 3km) You need to experiment with the distances until you find a setting you like. If you like an area with the fog (like misthaven) leave it alone, don't use the command. (duh)

I have to agree with the above post about doing the /setfog 9999999 thing. It totally destroys the way the game is supposed to look in some places. In others in can make things look better, but it's like taking a sledeghammer to a nail. In places where mist is important, in like Misthaven, it makes it look like crap. Using a lower /setfog command works out better, or using the modified weatherdef file listed below works better as well...but you have to replace it everytime you reboot the game.
In anycase, there's room for imporvement using this command, certainly, but don't ruin the atmosphere of the game by using it the wrong way. If anyone has the default fog settings, I'd ideally like to create two macros, one for fog at 75000, 300000 as listed above for most wide open spaces, and one for the "default" setting for places like misthaven. http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m?topic_id=33644
