The things that attract people to WoW are pretty much timeless.  It's a very polished game, with few bugs and few annoying features.

Terrible lie.

I have to admit, I got lured to WoW by my friends and played it for 2 weeks about a month ago. I was counting the bugs I encountered:

  • 2-3 per hour: Mob didn't move. When I ran off, it said "evade" and healed to full health.
  • 5+ per hour: Mob didn't move, when I ran off, it was still hitting me. But I couldn't attack back. It sayd out of range. When I moved back to where I saw it, I could hit it.
  • 0-1 per hour: Mob I couldn't see, was attacking me.
  • Very frequent in some zones: Mob was attacking me through walls and I couldn't attack back
  • 2-3 per hour I killed a mob, and I stayed in combat. I couldn't rest and I couldnt mount up.
  • 1-2 per hour When I tried to loot a mob, my char stayed in a weird bugged position. I couldn't loot it and had to logged out.
  • Escort quest in searing gorge bugged in the middle. The NPC stopped moving

All together, there was about 20 bugged situations that appeared every hour. Maybe you are used to these combat, loot bugs, or the invisible/unmovable mobs, but please DON'T tell me this game is bugfree and polished. It's been 4 years out, and is bugged more than many other lately released games.

Yes. I saw all this bugs in-game many times. They are not common but they happen.

Many WoW players use the AI exploits in some situations leaving bugged mobs behind. Some of this bugs are related to this.

They should pay attention to the classic game areas too. There are people who wish to play as other race except Blood Elfs and Draenei.

Hello, gamers. I gave the WOW trial a shot a little while ago, and found it OK (but not phenomenal). It may have been because I thought that starting WOW was a lost cause (so I had the whole come-in-with-a-bad-attitude thing). Anyway...

...Honestly, could one legitimately say that it is too late for a WOW NOOB to start playing? I'm talking no alts, no real experience, nothin'. Or is it all cool?

How many of "me" are out there at this point? Should I move on to something newer instead?

I started playing a couple of weeks ago.

So far I am having fun with the game as there is always something to do.  I can see though why for someone who has played this game for years would be bored with it though.

I am focusing a lot more on PVPing in the battlegrounds and leveling up my professions as a level which makes the game more enjoyable as I am able to soak everything in slowly to truly enjoy the game.

It is definately is a drastic change of pace from Lineage 2 for me but I welcome it honestly.

Bob the Cat says,
"Keep your password secret, you filthy communist."

I'd say now is a good time to join, honestly.  You won't be behind for very long.

As long as you hit 70 before WotLK comes out, you'll start it on the exact same footing as everybody else.  Maybe you won't have a swift flying mount yet, but it's super easy to grind up gold with all the new dailies.  The point is that you won't be behind in gear.  Each new expansion is such a massive reboot of gear power levels that people will probably be throwing away their 70 epics for the green quest rewards at 72+.

Even if there wasn't an expansion, you could just sign onto the youngest generation of servers like I did.  I went to Velen, which is one of the newest west coast servers.  Not quite as much entrenchment, even if the economy is less-developed.

In any case, WoW is not a game which really has a bunch of ubers dominating everything.  Even if you're into high-end raiding, you can climb through the guilds on your server with some dedication if you're good at your class.  For everything else, there's really no ceiling for newbies.  Crafting, to an extent, is tied to running instances and raiding.  Most of the good epic recipes are instance drops, and the really awesome epic recipes require raid-drop items to craft.  Of course, if crafting is your primary activity while playing a MMORPG, WoW might not be the game for you.

In any case, there's probably one factor you're not thinking about at all.  When Blizzard launched TBC, it simultaneously launched a whole new generation of servers for those who wanted to start fresh with that expansion.  Velen, my server, was one of them.  Atm, I think that generation is the youngest for US servers.  When they launch WotLK, I'd wager that they'll do the same thing.  If you really want a totally fresh start, maybe waiting for WotLK is in your best interest.

Anyway, not saying WoW is good or bad.  I'm still subbed but not playing it because of things about it that pass me off.  But what you're worrying about is not really a big issue for that game, not at this time.

EQ2,DAOC,GW,WOW

Cairne is a new US server that was launched this year, 4 months ago

may want to try it

its the only new server that launched in 2008 that did not allow character transfers

Ghostlands was the other new server for 2008 - but character transfers are allowed on Ghostlands

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

The expansion puts everyone back on the same playing field again so no it's definately not too late to join.

Why choose Wow /TBC?

Because simply it is the only MMORPG out there that lets YOU play the game the way YOU want it in the most polished way you can think of.

Be it simple small dungeons or middle or BIG raids, or battlegrounds, or Arena or crafting or solo you choose the playing style and still get rewarded. GONE are the worst days of old Wow where you HAD to raid to have decent gear. Not anymore. Everyone chooses his own playing style he likes most.

In Wow you can hop in play for 30 minutes and still progress your character. The BG's these days have a waiting time of a few seconds (tx to the battlegroup system) to one minute so you're middle into a battlefield on log on.

If you want to raid the highest content you can still raid 7 days on end and still not see the end content after playing for years. 500 people on this planet have downed the last TBC boss (20 guilds) out of 5 million western people.

Patch 2.3 was a blessing in that leveling was eased and daily heroic dungeons are in. Because looking for groups with the daily heroic dungeons is a breeze. Waiting times for me as a healing Pala are just a couple of minutes because the daily quest is advertised and so people keep hopping in for Pick Up groups. The badge system used in these dungeons/raids is so well thought out: everyone gets rewarded, no longer downing bosses without ever having a drop for your character.

Solo-er? No problem you play solo, do crafting and buy the crafted gear, ....and only IF you want to group there are the battlegrounds, the daily groups, the arena. Always within reach and all awarding.

Fancy PvP e-sport with 200.000 dollars of price money? No problem either: you create your won lvl 70 on the fly with complete free gear and play the PvP e-sport part. No other MMORPG offers this.

MMORPG's are all about the CHOICES of play one has. Wow has the most choices, without a doubt.

WotLK will add even one more choices like ORGANISED world PvP based on the micro attument of the millions of arena data. Something no other MMORPG had ever before.

And  it will be PvP with an air strike system and mounted combat tanks...

The secret of Wow is that it rewards its players base instead of punishing them.

For the Horde!

Even after WOTLK is out, it still won't be too late to start.

Failure to communicate.

It will never be too late to start WoW. You can solo to the heavens if you need to get to a high enough level to start doing the good instances...and that aside there are always lowbies that you can group up with if need be.

I order my groceries online.
