Even though I have a game that I love (god bless EVE), I've been needing a break for quite some time now. You know, a little breather. So I bought AoC, mostly because it looked to be interesting, and I liked the idea of a brutal world with serious consequences. I've played for a month, and...
AoC == WOW 2.0 Honnestly, as soon as I logged in I knew I was in trouble. Everything about AoC is a rework of WoW stuff. Aside from graphics there is very little differenece in character development (WoW is a mature game though, whereas AoC completely feels like barebones characters.) I am not bashing WoW, not at all. I played WoW for quite some time, and loved it. But then I quit, because I had played it for quite some time. Disappointing. No Grip Nothing about the game makes me want to play it. The quests are typical. Group quests are often easier to do solo, and the community, despite the adult rating is... well... not. Combat I had higher hopes. It's interesting in concept, but in practice it's more annoying than involving. There will be no "heat of battle". PVP Most PvP is a gank-fest, which really isn't as bothersome as it is in other games. For the most part there is little to no penalty for death, especially in PvP. This has two effects: 1. PvP lacks a considerable amount of enjoyment when you win, because deep down inside you know you really didn't win anything. 2. PvP lacks a considerable amount of enjoyment when you loose, because you don't really care that you lost This leaves you generally disinterested with the outcome of any particular fight. This results in pvp that is less exciting than one would expect, even at the time of your first kill. After a month, most pvp is completely annoying. So.... I consider myself a seasoned player. I've been playing MMOs for 15 years easy, all the way back to MUDDs. That said, I realize I'm picky, and I would expect anyone who's looking for more of a good thing (DAOC, WOW, AC2, GW, EQ, etc...) to totaly love this game. That said, if you're bored of your current game, try EVE, or an FPS for a while. If you're currently playing WOW and thinking of switching, but still enjoying WOW, don't bother. |

What amazes me more is how anyone can even compare this game to anything about WoW... |

Big whoop a feat tree, MMOs before both have been doing this. Man I wish the old days when MMOs weren't popular and the small community that played them actually had sense and each new MMO that came out wasn't omg this is a copy of UO! Nope nothing like that, god damn mainstream ruins everything. |

1. There are MANY similarities in AoC, core ones. I.E. Quests are similar, experience gain is exactly the same, equipment and bonuses are oddly similar, travel is handled the same (even mounts for the most part), perspective on the character is the same, long and short term game goals are the same.... WoW is NOT the first to have ANY of these traits, which was my point. I've been playing this game for 8 years already. 2. You have to admit the skill tree in AoC is almost identicle to WoW's. They're even almost exactly the same depth (train five here to get to one of these two skills, repeat...) 3. I didn't say AoC was just like WoW, I said it was like every other game... which you conviently prove. |
