I have no words for how understaffed some communities of SoE are. How this happened I can't say, but it's so far from anything tactful.  Silly things for one person mean a lot for someone else.

Any debate about it from players was immediately locked by SoE.

Ouch... Not good. You'd think someone would have stepped in and suggested something without that kind of baggage. I'm pretty sure that most Americans are aware of the IRA (even if their first reaction is "individual retirement account?")

I went over to EQPlayers because I thought this had to be a joke or a hoax. Nope. That's really what they called it. It's not even my country or my history, but it seems in poor taste to me.

What conspiracy? I am sure most people think it was a mistake-- a stupid mistake that they aren't allowed to talk about on the official forums. It's the total lack of thought that's really appalling. I am perfectly willing to believe that noone even realized that it might be a problem before it went out the door.  I guess we'll have to see if they are going to express any sort of awareness of the offense they may have caused. To ignore the controversy and not attempt to make some sort of correction would show stupidity and a real lack of sensitivity to some of the community.

A coincidental acronym, if it were called Sinn Fein IRA then maybe there would be more cause for concern. IRA is used a lot here in the US to describe Individual Retirement Account(s), so its a common acronym and was most likely over looked.

Wonder if it was called the KKK, what the reaction would have been?      Very poor taste on SOE's behalf.

This game has thousands of items and mobs... Its a game of acronyms.
The world has thousands of organisations etc, all with abbreviations aswell.

I know a lot of Irish folk who consider the IRA to be freedom fighters trying to reunite Ireland as solid nation island. Then again WTF has this got to do with some lame raid boss in EQ1?
