Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

... the game was $3.99 on Ebay, so what the heck.  At that price, I'll give it a try for a month.  That is less than the cost of a bad fast food lunch.

From my limited research, it seems the Sigil Team is no longer involved with the project, and the SOE team has been trying to turn the game around.  I should expect a somewhat sparse population, some bugs, but an overall playable game.  Does that sound about right?

I plan to start a Necro, since my play time is limited, and a solo class is a necessity for me.

Anything else I should keep in mind?

EDIT:  I forgot to mention one *very* important thing.   I tend to be labeled "troll", "jerk", "ahole" etc in MMO's.  I use... colorful... language.  I enjoy griefing.  I do my best to push others players buttons in chat.  Now, this being said, can anyone tell me a bit about the GM Staff of Vanguard?  To put things in perspective, I've been banned twice from Eve for foul language (hence why I'm looking for a new game).  Will I get reported and banned for saying bad words, or do players utilize the (hopefully implemented) word filter and ignore functions?  Are the GM's egomaniacs? 

The team making the game is still very much the Sigil team, they are just employed by SOE now.  Most of the original team has left, fired or moved to higher profile projects and a few new names added, but essentially still the same people.  I'm not saying that that is a bad thing at all.  Having people familiar with the code is a bonus. 

Every class can solo.  Play whatever you like to play.

You got banned from Eve for profanity? I thought it was commonly accepted practive in the Eve universe to be extremely vulgar and profane. That is one reason I got bored of the game quickly; juvenile antics.

When I Played Eve last year, the GMs were very active; banning gold sellers promptly. I imagine you will be promptly banned from Vanguard for profanity. But at least you'll be able to see the game.

Actually, using profanity in public channels will draw the ire of GM's if someone bothers to report you.  In private channels anything is fair game.

Can't say what they'd do in VG anymore, but I suspect being part of SOE you'd probably draw a ban pretty quick if you weren't careful.

Well I hope you enjoy Vanguard but reading the last part of your post makes glad there's an ignore function.

I had to use my translator for "profanity", sorry.
It seems to be almost the same word in my language though, grml.
So "godless" = "profane" ?

Errr... Try Serdon Server, and avoid Xeth plz.

is there any kind of source which details Necro Spells? I'd like to see what's ahead for me.

Actually he'd probably enjoy Sartok for the pvp griefing aspect.
