Please, please! Save the praise, for I am only a man. |
Hey hey, MMOers! So I just recently converted from LOTRO to WOW because some of my friends started playing not too long ago, and I'm happy to say that I like the shift. So here are my impressions: 1. The world seems really woven together. Here, I'm specifically referring to the loads of high-level players I see flying around even in the noob areas. THAT is pretty cool right there. 2. The graphics rock! Although I'm sometimes all for realism, WOW graphics are just cool! They're very welcoming, albeit cartoony, and just easy on the eyes (though outdated). 3. There aren't a whole lot of other people in the noob zones. I rolled an Orc Shaman and am currently level 9. If anyone feels kind enough to offer advice for a WOW beginner, please do. Cheers! |

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear! |
Yeah it's why WoW is a great gateway into the MMO genre for many people. It's simple, clean, interesting, and sucks you in especially at the beginning. Of course after you've done it once it gets a little old, but this is why most people try it then end up playing for 1-3 years. |

You can get a new character to level 7 in about 4 hours if you know what you are doing and you can get to level 10 in a couple more. If you level to 70, you will probably spend less than 1% of your time in that noob zone, so don't worry there's no one there, you won't be there yourself in a couple more hours of play time. Once you move to the more populated areas you'll see plenty of people. Best advice I can give you is try to find 1 helpful person and join the guild they are in if they are in one. Usually where's there's 1 helpful person, you'll find others as well. There are plenty of people willing to help, you just have to find them. And what I mean by a helpful person is not going out and spamming chat asking for help. Just start playing. If you are in the middle of a fight and are about to be killed and someone comes along and heals you or kills the mob for you to save you, that's a helpful person. Tell them thanks and strike up a conversation. See if they want to group up. See if they are in a guild. If they are, ask if you can get an invite. Just look for any kind of helpful gesture someone does without even being asked. It could be as little as someone comes by and buffs you although that's pretty common these days. You'll know it when you see it. I remember when I first started playing I was standing outside one of the major cities just looking thru my inventory or something. I think I was like level 10 and a guy with a higher level character walks up and hands me like 1g or something for no apparent reason which for a level 10 is a lot of dough. He just wanted to help me get started. Stuff like that. Do not accept guild invites from random people. If they want you to join their guild it's probably because no one is in their guild and trust me, you don't want to be in that guild. Guilds are the key to enjoying your stay. Find the right one and you'll play for a long time. |

Animals hunt for food. Humans hunt for sport. |
Don't play shaman. The best classes right now are warlock, warrior, rogue, druid, priest, paladin |

Shaman are great if you are mainly interested in PvE. My only advice to a new person is to never, ever go to the official forums. Maybe read the class stickies. But don't get involved in the garbage X class vs Y class arguements. You have way more fun playing without needing to know that some other class has potential to do 1.5% more damage then your class, or what have you. |

Play whatever class floats your boat. If you're a good player, you'll never have problems. Of course certain classes make the game easier/faster, but what would you rather play...a class thats easy and not as much fun for you or somethign that you really like? Anyone who tells you NOT to play a certain class...avoid like the plague. Every class is viable when played well.. They all have their pros and cons, but thats why you play one that suits your style. |

Thanks for the advice, guys! Though I must say that I found the WOW forum to be pretty helpful. Some of the posts are idiotic, but one has to bear with them in any forum. Anyway, at this point I switched to an undead Priest, and am planning on specifying in the shadow tree. |

World of warcraft has a very positive and great first impression on all people but to my and my friends knowledge it doesn't maintain that. I can 100% see why people play WoW it's awesome but i'm going to express my own opinion. The game is very combat based and the game is very repetitive and therefore can be come extremely boring. There is a lack of surprises in the game and the armour is so varied that you don't know what to even look forward to. It is not my kind of game but i do think it's amazing. I just wish they would make it a bit less combat reptitive and a bit more varied gameplay |
