The dressing system, plenty of Asian MMO's have this, for example Perfect World.

Fishing... Been done before, and in LotRO it is mind-numbingly boring, like watching paint dry?

Deed system... It's been done before, something similar is in CoH/CoV I believe. The deed system is a mindless grind and one of the worst timesinks I have seen in a game in a long time, absolutely terrible. It is a terrible excuse for content.

The book system... It's just a storyline, and one that loses all depth by book 5 or so, you can tell when they start rushing it. Before book 5 it wasn't that good, after book 5 it's a complete and total disaster.

This is coming from somebody with 3 level 50's on Nimrodel that played from the day Open Beta launched until the day AoC launched, and I don't think I'm ever going back.

It seems that you have played the game over and over and got sick of it. It's not that the game is as crap as you make it sound but LOTRO does lack 'Stayability'. Once you've done it once why do it again? I found the same thing with 'woe' (Mean, 'WoW'.. Yeah.. 'WoW') that once you've reached a high level and done the quests and then it all kinda trails off into dust. Start again, do it all over and repeat. It's the curse of a MMO, near impossible to make it ever lasting without making it harder for new players but difficult to keep old players past a few months. (Or years in some cases). Sounds as if you played it through, did everything and got bored of it so now it seems pretty crap. And I a guessing the same will happen with AoC for you in a year or so? We'll see. Overall I agree that LOTRO got very same-y.

I don't understand why games make it either WASD or mouse control but not both.

You can add run forward-lock  to mouse button 4 or 5 and when you run just keep right button to change direction.

Thanks very much. But it's all too late, I quited already. At least, you proved that it's not hard to achieve so. It seems that they lost a potential customer due to laziness.

Laziness?! Because they didn't make the control scheme to your liking, or laziness on your part beacuse you can't adapt.

I had to read this 4 times just to convince myself that it is real. Still not sure if you're joking or not (hope yes).

Quitting an MMO due to WASD, in 2008? Dude, it's been in use since DOOM 1 !! and that was 13 years ago,

LOTRO is much better in that department community matters.

At least I'm not alone on this point.

LOTRO isn't ran by SOE.     If you need any other difference, then you obviously haven't been around SOE very long.    Give SOE time, they will prove my point.

So I'm not one that should really comment on this thread since I've not played any other MMO, but I'm bored and feel like commenting on what I find entertaining. If it's unique, that's cool, if not, then oh well. One point though on the idea of who copies who. I think we should get our timelines worked out here...

First you had generaly mythology. Much of our fantasy genre uses this stuff, but because Lord of the Rings through J.R.R. Tolkien made it popular. Jumping to the gaming genre you had D&D show up, borrowing a lot of the fantasy concepts and elements (and running in different directions too). Really, these two (or three) things can be considered the basis for every fantasy based MMO in existance. But the real point, as we go down the timeline, is that each game copies the one before it, adds, refines, etc to be what it is. Some do that well (Wow was a great refiner) some not so well (can't objectively comment on this). So, in my opinion, the entire WoW copied Asheron's Call, LOTRO copied WoW, etc arguments are pointless because everybody is right.

The primary feature I like the most is the comprehensive story throughout the game. Well written quest dialog (even if it's very similar quests) and a wonderfully crafted epic story. And I wouldn't call this a system either, simply a refinement or feature.

I enjoy collecting titles, although the grinding for the other deed rewards isn't always so fun.

I love the graphical quality of the game. The visuals really help create a feeling of being in Middle-Earth.

Those are my top 3 at any rate. I've blabbed enough already.

Yuda yoda. I simply point out the flaw of your game design. It's not difficult to achieve both, you can have both apple and orange while you force yourself to give up the apple. It's simply stupid from a design point of view. Ah, I forgot to say that for the same reason I quitted Vanguard in 3 minutes, this is worse, because I quitted during beta and didn't buy the package.

I am less adaptive now, true. I don't pay to adapt anyways, I pay to have fun. I can adapt, I don't know why I should adapt when my request is reasonable and is not hard to achieve. That's the point.

Like someone said, it's 2008 and some 20 years passed by since WASD is invented. So please try your mouse to adapt yourself into today's world. Hey, you use graphic card, not some monochrone stuff incapable of showing even the mouse cursor. haha...
