There's nothing quite as heart warming as developers who make fun of the people using their product. |

While this would have made for an amusing ditty were you a simple PK in a game, I hardly think it is a shining example of developer professionalism or respect for those that play your game. Oh, well. Just my opinion. |

I wonder, you made the exact same post as pstruth did, yesterday, just used different words to express the opinion.
However, if you read the song and understood it, you might have figured that it is not against the entire player base of PS. It is against in n00bs in general, be it PS or any other game or application.
There's a big difference between a n00b and a newbie. While a newbie is pretty new to something (obviously, no?) and willing to read FAQ's, settings, manual pages and what not ever documentation. A n00b won't do that, he just fires up the game/app and asks dumb questions which are answered several times in howtos, docs,... Besides that fact that the song is humorou, it kinda reflects how it really is. I mean, you can go to any forum or irc channel and play the typical n00b and you will get always the same reaction from the "fanbois" and the devs, be it a channel about an application, a programming language, a linux distribution or whatever...just try it out.
The song was also posted on the PS forums and was welcomed there, people expressed their opinions about it which almost always was the same: great and funny song

Here is how the people on the PlaneShift forums responded: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32466.0 If one will look one will see, most people take this in the humorous manner it is intended. It is just clean fun.

I like the song. And yeah, please don't take it as a PlaneShift thing. It applies to pretty much all MMORPG's, from a certain point of view. Anyway, made me chuckle. I might even go for the extra points, when I find the time. |

Originally posted by Alerele Well, like I said, it is a humorous little ditty if applied solely as a gamer vs. gamer type deal. With the way conversations in this forum have been going in the past, perhaps I jumped too soon, and took things out of context; making something serious out of something which was not meant to be. If this is the case, then I humbly apologize to QueenofFools. |

Perhaps we can agree that it had good intentions and there's the possibility some can take it the wrong way? I know when I first read it, I had a negative reaction to it. My first post obviously offended someone so I appologize for wording my reaction so strongly and unfiltered. I think part of the problem is that the things Xillix used to identify "noobs" are actually really common. A high percentage of people who are new to Planeshift don't understand that a lot of the features aren't working, even though they're already in the settings and race descriptions. You start off the game without having a great idea of where you are, where you want to go, and what you're supposed to do. People are used to having automaps and access to OOC information. The merchant system is more difficult and clumsy in Planeshift than in other games (for the sake of realism, of course). The Death Realm confuses and frustrates many players the first time around. And to this day, I see old time well respected players going OOC in public chat. So really, I think we need to be very tolerant and understanding of "noobs", since Planeshift is so unlike other games. And most of us who get so preachy were once "noobs" as well. |
