To be honest, if anyone wanted a deterrent from playing the game, maybe all they need to do is look at some of the responses posted by some of the "supposedly" mature players in this "supposedly" mature game.

Bahamut keeps a decent pop. I've always seen people grouping around at every level at least one group up. Sometimes it's at a low point but hardly ever.

Just after I had to grind.

"The Force is like duct tape it has a light side and a dark side and holds everything together" :P

For the past few weeks I've been browsing the AOC forums and reading posts.  Most of them seem to be unfavorable.  It's a shame really.  I can't play the game myself because I don't  have the proper graphics card, I'd have to upgrade.  However, I don't plan on doing that since all I see is complaints.  Thanks to the Op for another post that solidifies my reason for not bothering to shell out the cash to upgrade my computer.

I'd also like to say that the game not working properly shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that frequents this website.  The testers were saying for weeks prior to the release that it was NOT ready and that there were still quite alot of things broken.  Now if you are new to gaming I can see why you'd be disappointed and want your money back but if you are experienced then you really shouldn't be surprised that the game wasn't finished, has bugs and has alot of things still broken.  I haven't seen any game released in over 3 years that people didn't say the same things about.  Every gaming company seems to think it's okay to release games when they aren't done, and why? Because of the people who pre order.  So next time you are looking at a new game read the forums of the beta testing, read other articles and if you see people saying it's not ready then by all means SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON"T BUY THE GAME!  If you don't mind dealing with bugs, broken systems and unbalanced classes then go for it and get the game right at release.  Seems to me that this is more the norm now then it actually being a working game.  Sad but true.

Before anyone asks, no I didn't preorder or buy the game, because I played it in Beta and knew that it wasn't worth upgrading my laptop or PC for, when both of my machines run LOTRO just fine with amazing visuals, but I couldn't run AOC at all on my lap top, and it ran sluggishly on my PC.

With that said, I did enjoy myself a little in the beta for 10 levels. But they were some of the fastest levels I've EVER played in an MMO, and from what I'm reading it doesn't appear to slow down much after that either. And even if my systems could handle it, I agree with the OP that it's not worth the money.

I thought the story and quests were decent  for what I played in Beta, and the visuals were amazing even in medium  settings, but were downright crap on low setting. Other than button mashing for combos/fighting , decapitations, vulgarity, and nipples ( none of which does a thing to make the game a better game than any other MMO), I didn't see anything that was groundbreaking or new for the MMO genre. Even climbing points wasn't new, I mean DAOC has climbing, and has had it for some time.

Sorry, but when a game like this is hyped as much as it is, IMHO the game should offer something new to the genre, other than what I mentioned above, and I just didn't see it.

You are right I should have posted those as well, but I also just got finished giving them to 3 other people that were playing it as well until today...

Here is my reasons then:

No game I have played has been that terrible. (15 years of gaming)

Never before have I seen a game released that has had so little content as AoC.

I have yet to see a game so hyped before besides WoW. WoW didn't flop on itself within the first 2 weeks and I keep hearing how bad it was at launch. (I do not play WoW and am not a fan of WoW)

It's completely broken and not even worth playing for at least another year which I doubt it will even be fixed by then.

Never before has a game made me want to torture myself from playing it.

That good enough or would some people like more?

Might want to tell them what level you got to as well, they are going to tell you the real game doesn't start until 40+ and that you don't know anything about the game until you have reached that point.

Got to level 50.

As for the 15 things broken let's see if I can do this.

1. Classes are extremely unbalanced.

almost all, if not all, games are horrible at balancing classes--especially at launch. games that have been out years still are working at attaining "balance" among their classes--that's not broken, it's just one of the annoying aspects of mmorpgs.

2. Regular players got kicked because they were "cheating". Total mess up there.

so there were some players exloiting, and some innocent players got accidentally mixed into the bans--that has never happened in another game before EVER! /sarcasm off. personally i'm glad they're trying to get those exploiters taken care of as quick as possible instead of letting it linger for a long time. funcom even acknowledged that some innocent players got mixed into it and they provided information on how those players can take steps to get it resolved.

3. Falling through the world. I expected things like this but it's still there.

yep that would be broken, but unfortunately it's acceptable--games that have been out for years still have that issue.

4. Guild cities don't have their buffs.

yeah that'd be broken too, haven't experienced it yet since my guild hasn't started our city yet. but in my opinion it's not a big deal--but i can sort of see how it might be a big deal to other players...sort of.

5. The in game currency situation is completely screwed up.

screwed up how? because gold is hard to come by? or is something not working with the currency? if that's the case i haven't encountered it, money goes where it's supposed to and i haven't seen any problems with my characters losing money or anything. really this sounds to me like personal preference, like for me i'd prefer it was a bit easier to make gold in this game--but because it's harder to make money than other games doesn't make it broken.

6. Not being able to truly craft until level 40? Sorry to long.

not broken, personal preference, and it's been known for a long time that you wouldn't be able to craft till lvl 40. again for me personally i usually enjoy crafting in games so i would like it to be available earlier than lvl 40, but that's not the way the game is made--that doesn't make it broken.

7. Releasing such a thing way before needed to.

that really doesn't seem like it should even be in this list of broken things, that's more vague than the currency thing--and is also more personal preference than absolute fact.

8. Basically no content past level 40. (not enough quests past level 40--fixed that for you)

content counts for more than just quests--content includes mobs, zones, cities, instances, pvp, etc. my lvl 43 demonologist hasn't even started on fields of the dead or the noble district and still has several instances left to do and some low level quests to complete still. only reason he's not higher is i took a break from leveling to get my professions leveled up and get those gathering quests finished, and then i figured i'd try a melee character.

now funcom has announced that they're adding in more content to the 30's and 50's zones and a lot of other stuff, you can see the information here: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=59606

but just cause there's some levels that are harder/slower to level doesn't make it broken--at least not in my opinion, oh wait that sounds like another personal preference.

9. Attributes can't calculate bonuses properly.

yep that's broken, that is something they need to take care of

10. Random addition and subtraction to the assassin stances.

haven't played an assassin yet, but i'm betting that's a display bug--i know i'd get that with my demo, like my infernal knowledge buff would sometimes have the wrong #'s on it and i'd rebuff myself and it'd have the correct #'s. not sure whether this is actually broken or if it's giving the correct buff but not displaying it properly. would count as broken either way, but the severity of it is not known (at least by me, haven't run the #'s). like if it's not buffing your character correctly--like you're only getting an increase of 6 dps instead of 12 dps, or if it's giving you the correct increase to dps but displaying it wrong.

11. broken quests.

yep there's broken quests, i know i'm shocked and amazed, this has never happened in an mmorpg before and probably never will happen again...ever. /sarcasm off

12. food buffs don't always apply properly.

weird, i've never encountered that, is it in regards to a certain food type only? i usually have a couple food buffs up and i've not seen this or heard anyone else complain about it. but just because i've never encountered it doesn't mean that it's not true--if there is a problem with some food buffs that would be broken.

13. debuffs being broken and not removing when supposed to.

yeah that'd be another display bug, the buffs/debuffs seem to go away when they're supposed to they just have the icon up still with no time counter on them. that's broken.

14. Guild controls don't work properly.

you need to explain more here, what part of the guild controls don't work properly? is it in regards to the guild cities--if so as i said before we haven't started ours yet, but if it's just the guild control panel then i don't see what you're talking about. the guild control panel seems to work just fine, now it's not anywhere near as good as i'd like--there's a lot of features i'd like to see added and some tweaks and more abilities to it. but it's not broken, just a lot more barebones than we're used to or than we'd like--but that doesn't make it broken.

15. Guild Cities don't have their NPC's

yep i guess that'd be broken too, but they'll be added shortly

16. No Itemization

no there certainly is itemization, it's just not noticeable because of the stats issue (see #9 on your list here), because of the stats issue it's basically bad itemization--but once they fix the stats problem it should be much better. oh and i'd say this one and the stats are the same issue.

I'm done. Where is my money
