A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf |

Originally posted by logicbox9 Yeah, I wasn't buying that argument. Sure, the Tolkein license holders are the ones who came up with the Monster play PVP idea..... I was just making idle speculation. Most likely the money is to start developing a new project There's big money to be made in them MMO's you know. "Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean it's not PTW." - Amaranthar |

Edit: Whatever they put it into, I pray it's not another DDO/LOTRO clone. Turbine can do so much better. |

I would assume that a sizeable investment like this is hinting at a new title, and not just polishing up LotRO. Then again, that is just me. |

I doubt it has anything to do with LOTRO. MAYBE IT'S LOONEY TOONS ONLINE?! Taz would be OP Pats let Manning win. |

Sink? No, I don't think so. You just described an MMO targetted towards young children, not a bad thing. |

Originally posted by ThillianCare to back that statement up with a link? Time and again you make these claims, often with different numbers, and never really point to where you heard this. Please share. $120 million to make WoW? That would make it 4 times more than the most expensive MMO which handn't been released yet. Even Blizzard didn't think WoW would be that successful based on how overwhelmed the servers where.
On topic I had heard that EA owned the rights to make any Harry Potter MMO in another thread. A few people were talking about it when Bioware was bought out and speculations about harry potter were being tossed around.

Ugh, couldn't they have given it to a developer that has a clue how to make endgame content and even decent PvP? /cry |

I don't think that Blizzard will have any Money issues on the upcoming MMORPG they can open hands and Activision+Vivendi throw it at them xD. But i don't think they need any outside support anyway.

Although I would hope they plan to create a new game with their own IP, my best guess is that this investment represents Turbine making their current games available to the console market. If they go for all of the platforms at once, they make a coup and get their feet in the door of consoles as mmo platforms while that market area is still pretty virgin territory. Their existing games are rock solid, and would have really broad appeal to a new gaming market, especially if they are really one of the few outfits offering to all of the consoles. Worth investing in if you want to see a relatively quick return on your investment instead of waiting 4 years for the cha-ching. I hope I'm wrong, but...we shall see. |

I see now that JRR sold the rights to United Artists in the 1960s and Zaentz aquired the rights in the 1970s. (http://www.xenite.org/faqs/lotr_movie/news_0000/486.html). Still, there is no question but that Zaentz has kept a close hand on the way LoTRO is protrayed. I know that in producing the LoTR card game, Decipher had to send every card to Tolkien Enterprises to get their approval of the cards (I can't link to that, this was information told to the product champions (Riders) in emails.) When they changed the cards as the result of testing, they often had to send them back TO Tolkien Enterprises to get them improved. It resulted in some interesting times trying to get everything okayed in time for release. |

Honestly, I would like to see them add more solo/PvP based server or an expansion pack for solo/PvP.
Although.. AC3 would be awesome.. |

Think the bigger point is, Turbine is becoming renowned as the top mmo developer in the United States . |
