is there any counter class to assassin apart from a tank? seeing as 90% of servers seem to be assassins.

i just rolled my first assasin. i also just placed him on a pvp server. i never pvp'd in any mmo before. i want to hide and dual wield and sneak attack(gank)

I'm an assassin myself, lv 20 to be exact. from my experience, as long as i don't get the first hit (stealth attack) i won't be able to kill em (same levels). so using search is your friend, when moving around see if theres any suspicious ripples on the water, any jumping sound in a dungeon,  or if you see some flickering over the lighting.

Stealth attack deals like crazy crit, even more with off-hand crit procs and their cunning strike will finish you off before you know it. either run like mad when u get stealthed hit, or use slam asap.

p.s we're real weak against heavily armored toon, but still kills them with DoTs and cunning strikes.

I play an assassin. level 25, almost 26. My counter is a  ranger.... everything else is gets shredded apart. Not because of the damage I do, but because I'm good at circle strafing. I kill people 8 levels above me, all the time. But Rangers will kill me everytime, as long as they are mediocre. But a Good demonologist kills me as well.

Snares are really the thing that kills assassins at low levels, but later on you get feats to avoid snares and stuff like that.

You want to counter an assassin?

Pop him out of stealth.

Then you are on equal ground.

When speaking about assassins, it's kind of an odd class. Class based games usually work like rock paper scissors, assassins work differently. If played right, an assassin can kill anyone in their path 1 on 1. If played right, any other class can take them out.

They depend on stealth. Basically, if you're able to discover them before they discover you, you either win or they retreat (which annoyingly they are also good at unless you can stop them). If you're in a PvP server, you should already know to be cautious. But if not, start doing so. You'll be able to survive much longer that way.

If you simply want to avoid them, use stealth as well. But if you want to kill them, and they discover you before you discover them... you better have some tricks up your sleeves. Understand the class and how they work, such as their combos (which are usually quick single attacks or two), and counter them accordingly. Use some potions, or in the case of a ranged player, use snares and get as much ground away as possible. Knowing how to play an assassin better than the assassin himself (which is usually the case in my experiences with MMOs) you can see right through them and still win. Overall it should be a case of simply who is the better player when versing those types, although most others have the rock-paper-scissor scenerio.
