I've been out of town for a few weeks and have one more week before I'm back home, I used the last few weeks using a hotel computer to follow the progress of AoC, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing.  I built a top end computer just for it, however I will not be playing it.  MY GUESS is that Vanguard is starting to pick up and will be even more so as players of AoC end their 30 free days.  So it looks like I'll be joining the Vanguard crew when I get home.

In the past few months It seems as much has been fixed and Vanguard is now playable, however I've been holding off because my most and maybe my only hold up would be a small community, and I would like to make some choices but I would like to run some things by you guys.

First I would really like to play a Rogue, but I remember long time ago that Rogues were a broaken class have they improved ?

My next choice would be a healer class as they can find groups easy, but can they solo,  If yes what are best  Cleric,  Blood Mage,  Shaman or  Deciple?

I dont care about races I only care about populated areas and grouping so I can play any race. So I guess I should care more about starting areas, could you suggest the best starting area Thestra,  Kojan, or Qalia ?

When the time comes I'll ask for a good server and find a good guild, If things are still dead I'll try to make my own starter guild however it will be my first.

                   Thanks everyone :)

1. Rogues are not broken anymore. Very uber dps as a matter of fact, but difficult solo class, so bring friends. To use their better skills, it requires you to stay in a "sneak" stance and attack from behind.

2. Clerics, Shamans and Disciples make really good solo classes. The Blood Mage I'm not to sure about. Maybe someone else can comment further on them.

3. Thats a catch 22 question and answer for this one. Thestra and Qalia support a majority of the races in the game, but I have found that Kojan has some of the best low level zones up to about level 20 or so. There are numerous good starting areas in all continents, but due to the higher amount of current players playing alts, they move on and out of these areas quite quickly. Just have to play it by ear when you get in game as 1 day an area can be very populated and the next, barren.

Hope this helps. Good luck and Peace!!

"Don''t you NEVER turn your back on a fuckin'' clown when he''s talkin'' to you"

The current riftway system allows you to teleport to any other starting zone at level 10. So basically after you hit level 10 you can go anywhere if you feel the zone is barren. I would say it doesn't really matter whether the zone is barren or not. If you get a few people, you can go anywhere you like using rifts.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll play a Cleric. And thats very cool about starting area's with the rife way thing, not sure what it is but as long as you can move to the populated areas its cool with me.

you can actually rift before level ten.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

As a matter of fact, the Cleric is NOT such a great soloer. Sure they are like unkillable; especially if they are of the Preservation Affinity. But they are also the lowest dps class in the game. The War and Death Affinities get dps modes, though, where they get into areas where they might even beat a Paladin in dps. In these stances, their healing is denied, though, and especially the Death Affinity suffers from serious lack of mana in this mode (so at least bring a heap of food for regen).

Disciple is even more unkillable than Cleric, since they dont have an as good defense, but ultimately strong manaless single target healing. And they have some dps, in comparison to Clerics. And they have Fake Death, even if its probably the worst version of all, and not that reliable. All in all a great solist class.

Bear Shaman bugs atm, thats what makes them the ultimate choice right now. Great defense, great healing, and great dps. Once they're fixed, their dps will go back into the department where Clerics are, though.

Wolf Shaman is the only subtype with sneaking, and they get incredible runspeed, too.

Phoenix Shaman is meant to be best dps of all Shaman subtypes, but really they arent. They are about on par with Wolf right now. Still they are the best mage buffer in the game.

Blood Mage, well they are a problem, because they have no ability whatsoever to kite mobs. That means they have to tank them, in Robes. While they can be impressingly strong with it, its far from ideal and if they get adds, they basically have to run (too slow root to use it for CC, and too little buffer in HP to be able to afford being hit).

BMG is great class. At lvl 40 I can solo all 4dot and few (a bit risky) 5dot in Arena. Also he is very efficient in party because of the nice DPS/Heal. The only problem with BMG is that they die to easy so this make them not so easy to play. With GU5 its improved a bit so they have much mroe hp now.

Played: UO, Redmoon, RuneScape, Astonia 3, MU, L2, AO, DAoC, EQ2, WoW, GW, LotRO,Ryzom, VG, EVE, Wurm, WAR

UO is the only game that still miss me :(
