I cant see my desktop and I get a message that says "task manager has been disabled by admin" I was able to get avg open before i lost everything but it seems as if its frozen now. The last time i reboot the desltop showed for a bit and thats how i got avg open. I dont want to restart again though as i may not even get a chance next time. (update) Well i ran avg in safe mode and didnt get anything. Took it to geek squad and they couldnt get kinda of software or hardware checker type stuff working. So im down to a system restore to get my HD back or just slave i and move everything. |

Have you tried booting in safe mode and running AVG? |

theres a number of things that you *could* do. The quickest way I would go about it is to take out the hard drive and put it in as a slave in another computer and scan it that way. If you can't do that, try safe mode with AVG, and/or download and run Combofix. lets start there, and let us know how it goes. |

Slave that drive and run a virus check. Run Housecall. housecall.trendmicro.com it's a very long scan but it's pretty good. Get it somewhat clean. Then let me know where you're at, I'll post a few reg fixes that can get your taskmanager up and running. Get into safemode and check your error logs.. see if you have any hardware troubles. Run a repair installation, don't reinstall yet, try and repair it. That way you don't lose any information. Download hijack this and post the log in this forum, I'll help you from there. |

Originally posted by Arndur Then hit the repair first thing. Or go out and spend 20 bucks and get a drive bay. Then put your drive in it and go to a friends house and scan it there. What computer are you on right now? download hijack this onto a pen drive or to a diskette or CD and run it in safe mode.. its a small program and will most assuredly run. Theres a number of things you could do. But if you want to just say screw it and lose your date, do a complete reinstall. |

Sounds like that time of the year...a fresh start. It always helps me feel clean. If your having the problem in safe mode as well, I'd suggest getting over what ever was lost, and a fresh reinstall. Not saying that fixing the problem would be impossible, but I assume you, like the very good computer user you are, have backed up important things and that a fresh install would not hurt a bit. |
