Originally posted by Thor_Leifson I tried vanguard, a year or so after the release, after sony sent me a promo email saying the game is a different game and they fixed the issues ppl were having ( im still on their mailing list). The game was slow, unstable, crash every now and then, buggy and worst of all, EMPTY like the city of the dead. This is after they said they fixed it. worst $20 i've ever spent, i dont get how you can think vanguard launch was better. because after a year its was still in its crappy state. before AoC i played eq1, eq2 (from launch), wow (from launch) ffxi (from US launch), vanguard (after 1 year from launch, for 10 days. stopped because it was so CRAP). from what i have seen AoC is fine at launch. alot needs to be bugfixed and polished but game is still new, it deserves patience like all other games at launch. but of course all of the above is just my 1st hand experience and my prefererence. ppl are entitled to their opinions should not be swayed by fanbois.

I'm thinking thrice, actually.
I love how this topic became a flame war between Tsukuie and Singsofdeath.
I can't even tell who supports the game and who deosn't between you anymore! I just know I DON'T support it, though I am definitley intrigued by where the whole mess is going (the Game's mess, not forum browsers)
I feel bad for everyone involved.. even FunCom- they're not trying to screw anyone over. I doubt anyone would be pissed if there were no monthly fees ;) |

"Third - PVP is a joke. Click on yellow arrow next to the map and see how many instances are of each area! I think the areas can not even support 50 players before creating another shard! If someone attacks you, and you feel you are going to lose - click the yellow arrow and PUF! disappear to another instance!!!! " Well, not a joke, YET... I'm old school PvP and I think this instance scheme will negate a key PvP strategy: the ability of aggressive and successful guilds and alliances to monopolize rare resources, whether those resources are boss mobs or crafting resources. If the quality of end-game guild v guild PvP is important to you keep reading on the evolution of AoC PvP before you spend your money. Stanley. Don't forget to add that the customer service and policies are unprecedentedly horrendous. They take a day to respond to tickets, they blanket-ban players and ask questions later (in reality they won't even tell you why you were banned exactly). Overall, this game wasn't ready for release. It has a ton of holes, performance issues, severe lack of content at the upper levels (lets talk about the stupid repeatable missives they threw in as their band-aid, and their almost non-existent itemization at any 60+ dungeons), and their service quality rivals Vanguards in all-time crappiest. I knew I shouldn't have spent $50 on this game. The fanbois didn't convince me to. It was my old MMO friends that were looking for something to play. Well, we did, and now some of those friends aren't even playing the game anymore. That's because anyone who's playing MMO's for a long time now (pre-wow MMO's) knows that there's a lot more to be had than these stupid, boring, IQ-reducing treadmills that keep you chasing the carrot killing 50 million deer and returning to the quest giver. And you know what, WAR probably won't be any different. In fact, it won't be any different. It doesn't take a genius to see that from all of the current videos and press. no auction house/trader, mailboxes, bugs, lack of quests 30+, lots of obvious exploits in the game... it's obvious they released too early. |

Some guilds just have to be the first even if it means exploiting. The fact you continue to post things that have been fixed shows you really don't have much of a factual basis to argue your point with. |

It doesn't diminish my point though: what MMO releases without working banks/AHs/mail? not to mention a bunch of other bugs & exploits?
As i said, they might be starting to fix *basic* things now, but i maintain this game was released 6 months too early.

The traders/banks/mailing system (it's a one universal thing in AoC) was brought down and two fixes was applied. The first one that removed the exploit (but created another problem) took them 3 working days. The second one took them 1 extra day. If there is one thing that they do right, is fixing bugs fast. Very fast. |

This game is not ready for retail -even at this stage - few weeks after launch. There are so big bugs and errors at higher lvls that its just remarkable that any gaming company should ever release such a thing. This has already put huge dent in Funcom's reputation and belive you me - Who is ever gonna belive one word these guys say again ? I got a lvl 50 character now that supposedly should be able to do spellweaving. Im actually one of the class where spellweaving was not disabled after launch cause of bugs - but it really should have been disabled. What a joke of a feature. Its still 2-3 months work needed on it and yet again Funcom directly lied to ppl - and they showed utter lack of respect throwing out such a feature without even testing it. As far as City building - You can build (that is if your not banned for having to much gold in your bags cause of the exploiders banning) but... None of the effect of any building is working. There are huge collision problems in every building - Do I really need to go on ? Quests that are bugged ? Well - let me make an example. One in Wildlands is to find a lost boy. There are 3 months now since I reported this quest as bug cause the kid was actually INSIDE the Wolrd map so you did not see him at all. 3 months later its still the same.... How long to fix this ? 5 mins ? There are numerious bugs like that. Bugs that take short time to fix but because this game was released UNFINISHED these are now things that will not fix cause HUGE problems like exploids and gamebreaking issues are showing up left right and center atm that need full priority to be fixed and STILL have the servers up for paying custimors. The dmg is already done. We are now at Vanguard stage. The small and irritating bugs that could have been very easy to fix on a beta servers are now running riot all over Hyboria. Instead of doing one month of more vigorus testing we are now stuck with game that will take over 6 months to fix the smallest of issues. So yes - Think before you buy this one in the next year or so. But I promise you that over 80% of the ppl that are now playing have given up then. |

To AOCtester: Comparing AoC's launch to Vanguard's puts in serious jeopardly your own credibility I'm afraid. |

Tempest of Set I have Played to game , I have reach lvl 80 pretty fast because I play a lot but Because I picked an MEGA IMBA class without knowing it of course , Its like at some lvl with the right spell you can kill 6 or 8 and untill 10 mobs of your LvL at the time if you use a shield and go on parry mode. Some classe are so Unbalanced its as nobody even tryed the class after making it. Now lets see what content do we have at lvl max ? Well the answer is quite simple Nothing. I have explore the whole Hyboria world in about less then 2 weeks , I had a lot of fun doing it and now will go on and play something else , this game was a simple RPG after all nothing more. |

Funcom are the worst company in the world when it comes to writing patch releases. For example it was confirmed on the forums that the patch fixed a major bug/exploit (the one Lobotomist mentioned with people escaping to other instances) and Funcom never bothered to write it. Why? Because Funcom believes it's better not to mention too many bug fixes, especially the embarasing ones. AoC is a decent game but nothing revolutionary because it sacrifices every important aspect of MMO's on the altar of graphics. My gripe is with Funcom, a company that firmly believes that in order to sell a game you HAVE to cheat, lie, deceive, withhold information and when needed, completely distort it. First they denied public access to the Forums. Now they have a sticky post in the general discussion explaining how all the people complaining about the game are actually a minority and they encourage you to "try" the game first before deciding. Not using a free trial of course, but by paying them 50 USD/Euro. Nice try, Funcom. --------------------------------------------------------- |

Ok, about that lost child in Wild lands. It can be done, atleast I finished it yesterday. It has slow spawn rate. Body can be found in canyon opposite of some bears and bandits. What i did was changing istances. There is spawn point near so its not far to run to childs body spawn place. I had prospector quest so changing instances was handy while farming silver ore on the hill near spawn place. Maybe it took atleast 20 instance changes until I found child body in les populated instance. And i also finished my prospector quest. It was in normal instance during day time.
urbanmonkey ... does WAR have public forum or not? I see same nicknames in every topic against AOC. Don't you have a different game to play? I wonder do you have fetish on doing things you don't like? Why are you forcing yourself to play something you dont like? Reason? |

I have shut down my account as of today. I have a 42 PoM /a 34 HoX /a 24 DP /a 22 hunter. First let me say the Landscapes look great, and the game ran real smooth on my computer. First problem. HoX destiny quest. The main quest of the first 20 levels of this class is broken. For ALL HoX you can not go past one conversation. Everyone knows about it and its been like this since day one. you have to page a GM and wait many hours or do this thing that dumps that quest and sets you to the next one. You miss the story, you miss the exp, you miss the quest rewards, its stupid. Problem two, grouping. This game is built around solo questing. One of my guild mates and I grouped for almost all of the level on our mains. It was a pain in the butt. It is very hard to find team mates on the map. (They did improve this some by making larger icons but they are missing half the time, it just does not work very often) Quests that have objectives that say to pick up an item in an instance many times only work for the first person to click the item. Then the instance has to be reset for another person to pick up the item. Team buffs are buggy. if two team members have health + buffs cast they conflict on the other team members as the two buff fight for control, draining the life of the team members in the process. Its easy enough to shut off one of the buffs but its just stupid that its like that. Problem 3, gathering, crafting. At 20 you start gathering. But one of the recourses is broken ... Cotton, no one can get cotton. Ok.. so we just focus on the other things. Level 40 comes and were all checking out crafting professions. 3 of the proffesions are broken. Armor smith. you cant complete the first quest because you need to make something with cotton. Ok ... so I try making other things, but they are so useless in the stats that our level 25 gear is better than this level 40 crafted stuff. ... Well they have GEM slots. So i take gem crafting thinking it will make the items worth it. I make a nice +10 magic damage gem and put it in a leather glove. Its going to be cool...... then I mouse over it to look...... and it crashes the game! Every time you mouse over it crashes the game! So I check the forums ... sure enough its not just me..... Gem crafting is BROKEN..... it will crash the game if you actually slot one into something..... JUST GREAT. There is other junk to but to top it all off ..... Guild Cities. We build a keep ... and a trade post and ... and this stuff does NOTHING. Guild cities do nothing at all right now .. no buffs ... no traders in the trade posts... it does not get attacked by NPCs .. nothing .. totally non functional. There is no ETA on when it will function. Its just not implemented ...... I may try again some day. |

well besides all the specifics, Salamander just said it: "Ill try again someday"
You guys playing the game now might as well accept that you are still in beta -- except you are paying for its development yourselves.
Remember how PS3 cost a billion dollars when it came out and nothing worked well on it??? All the launch titles sucked? Remeber that? It's okay now.
Just wait it out and we will see if this game becomes solid or just goes the way of SWG. |
