unless you have a pc that is close to the recomended specs the chances are that you will find aoc a frustrating experiance . open areas tend to be ok but once you get into the citys you ll find you get a lot a stuttering . you can reduce this by turning the view distances down and playing the game on low settings but its unlikly you ll be happy with it .

now a lot of people in these threads will tell you its because your system is not set properly or you not defragged , got the latest drivers etc etc , while things like this help they do not solve the problem .

you will also see a lot of people posting telling you how well it plays on thier mid range system . what you have to remember is that some people have vastly diffrent ideas of whats acceptable to them . while others are lets just say ecconomical with the truth .i ve now managed to play conan on several pcs and to me its only really playable on a high spec gaming rig . the mid range pcs dont really cut it .

the game itself is nt bad .it offers a breath of fresh air although its debatable weather it could be classed as a true mmo . it is more a co operartive online rpg but i dont have any problem with that .

but you really need to see how well it runs on your rig before you buy . unless you want to take the chance of wasting your money .

the problem is a lot of people are finding it does nt run well and are starting to post on forums how bad the game is. this is starting to get it a bad rep .

a free trial within the next couple of months will be crucial to its success .

I agree totally on certain points. As you stated it all boils down to different levels of acceptability that people have. For example I personally do not mind stuttering in cities (as I indeed get) as long as I can play the game without this during regular gameplay, and enjoy the game on high graphics.

With the hardware required it's all a matter of mixing the right components. For example a single core processor will struggle, as will anything less than 1GB RAM. Graphics wise IMO mid range cards are fine, my GeForce 8400M GT can run the game on high settings (shader 2.0).

If you have a dual core processor of 1.8Ghz or more, 2GB or more of RAM and an 8400 equivelent or better then you will run the game fine. If you want high graphics with this sort of basic requirement then you will have to put up with stuttering in certain areas, and if you hate this then running the game on low graphics will reduce the stuttering to a minimum.

why do people insist upon spreading this false rumor around?

You do not need a dual core 3ghz rig with a nVidia 8800+ to run this game.  I run it at 10fps (which is playable) with a single core 3.1ghz processor, 1.5gb of DDR ram and a bloody AGP x1300pro!  If it can run on this, it can run on just about anything!

The only issues i have are sometimes NPCs draw a little slow, but with the system I have, that isn't suprising...

This game will run just fine with a 8600GTS, an AMD 4400 with 2gb of DDR2 800 ram, which is a pretty mid range rig these days...

Also, you are the first person that I've seen who says the game will run with the 8400...  A friend of mine had them with a Q6600 and had worse performance that I do with my x1300...

funny i m running on 8600 gts 3 gb ram and a pentium dc 2.8 ghz and it does nt run well on my system . before you ask yes i do have the latest drivers , i know how to use my graphics card , i defrag regulary i turn everything running off in the background i know how to turn down the objects range . i turn off bloom etc etc . this game still does nt run at a rate thats acceptable to me even on the lowest settings . its certainly is nt false . i wish i d waited for a free trial or buddy key.

with a free trial  could see the truth about how age of conan runs on thier system and not have to take advice from people who have a vested interest in trying to make this game popular .

ask yourselves this . if funcom have nothing to hide . give us a free trial so people can decide for them selves weather its worth buying for thier current pc . if they like the game and they cant it gives them the oppertunity to upgrade before wasting money .

personally i dont think we ll get one for 6 months .

by which time most will have left and gone to warhammer .

Yeah, really 10fps? What is your packet loss? How choppy is it? Is it like playing in a disco with the lights flashing. What happens to those 10fps when you start lagging? Is it really playable or is it just bearable?

either upgrade, or learn how to maintain your system.

I have an old machine, and I tank for large groups, with sometimes more than one necromancer, with + pets each.

And no, my frame rate is fine, and I'm not talking 10 whole fps. 20-60, depending on where I am in the game.

Could it be better if I upgraded? obviously. But I don't NEED to.

Yeah, the game requires more powerful machines than most other titles. Time to move forward people. Your Walmart special WoW rig isn't going to cut it.

lol yeah blame the system :P it cant possibly be that funcom have overestimated what the average pc is capable of . do you honestly think millions of people are going to go out an get a new pc , graphics card etc etc just to play conan when thier pc runs pretty much every other newly released game smoothly . well.its just not going to happen .

i d agree it is a fatal flaw and i hope heads will roll at funcom . i can guarantee there were people on the development staff that proberbly voiced concerns but were not listened to . like vanguard was a cautionary tale for releasing unfinnished games , aoc may be one for releasing a game that is not playable of the vast majority of home systems.

still its saving grace may yet be the xbox360 release

it ll be down to 200 thousand subs on the pc version over the course of the summer imo

free trials RUIN mmo's. As soon as you give out free trials you get TONS AND TONS of gold sellers posting in-game all the time. If all accounts have to be paid you dont run that risk. I say no free trials, play if you want to play, or dont. FREE TRIALS RUIN MMO"S!!!

I think that trials should have a small fee to play.  Why not make the person pay like 3-5 bucks to play the trial so it's like renting the game for a few days and then you gotta return it, or in an mmo's case buy it if you want to continue?

To go back to subject, i really don't know as of yet what this game runs like, but my system specs...that is when i get my new computer in next week...are dual core 3.1ghz processor, 3gb of ram, 8800 eVGA 512mb GPU.  I think that i will be able to run the game pretty well on high settings, but we'll see.  Honestly a game is about the gameplay not graphics.  If Superman 64 (voted worst game of all time) would of had graphics like a xbox 360's graphics, which was impossible for its time, it still would not have been a good game, nice to look at, but still horrible.

funcom stated many times that they weren't trying to be a wow killer, and realised that not everyone would have the PC balls to play the game.

There are ALREADY about 500k people playing. As more people upgrade over the coming months and even years, more people will be able to play the game...and it will look good.

PC games are not meant to look like low-poly shit.

buddy keys should be activated soon. All regular editions of the game get 1, and CE gets 5.

Your system will PWN AoC. Maxium settings, no problem.

Let's face it people, computers are constantly improved and always will until we reach a limit impossible to breach.  The systems out there that are dual core 3.1 ghz and or quad core 2.4-2.8ghz processor, 3-4gb of ram, 8800+ gpu's, etc will all become standard within the next year to two years.  To play computer games as your hobby, it has always ALWAYS been said that you will be forking out a whole lot of money if you want to keep up with the games that are being pushed out.  If you can't save up and upgrade then you might need to find a new hobby, sorry to say it, but it's just a fact in PC gaming.

i have a pentium dc 3 ghz pc 8800 gt card and 3 gb ram in one of my ( mid range pcs ) and i ve seen it played on similar rigs . these are the pcs i m pointing out that conan does nt play well on .even on lower settings . 500 people have brought the game ... the question is what will be the drop of rate after the first month . i ve seen rumours that its going to be as much a 50 percent although my feeling is that it will more likly to be a third . yes conan may do better as pcs are ungraded etc . but you have to remember in a year or so conan maybe up against other mmos . theres nothing to say people will want to subscribe to it when stargates out . or even warhammer later this year .

i have some sympathy for the developers they want to push the boundries but the big thing is with an online game is it has to be slighly toned down . otherwise you exlude a lot of the gaming audiance .i m not saying you should be able to play it on its top settings smoothly on a mid range pc but you should be at least able to play it on the low settings . this is where conan appears to be falling short at the moment .

perhaps it will play on some mid range systems and not others ( nothing to do with the owners inability to use thier machine) simply because  no two pcs are alike .although thus far i ve personally only seen it play well on a system that close to the recomended specs . so i tend to go by first hand experiance

all i m saying is funcom would be very wise to offer a free trial ( and no free trials dont kill mmos you dont see demos killing single player games if they are any good do you ? so thats a bogus argument ) .

what i would like to see is an end to all these conan sucks threads simply because people have purchased the game and are angry at how badly in runs on thier system .

theres only one way to end this . thats a free trial ... even three days would do . let people try before they buy . otherwise people will feel ripped off and conan will fail by word of mouth.

its happening already .

True Love Never Dies

My PC is comparably Garbage to even 2-year old PCs, and I run AoC just fine. think my graphics look like shit to achieve those high fps? lol, wrong. My graphics look Pimp and i've got 75% of everything on low/disabled.

Get real. Your PC is either one of 1% (guess) that simply cannot use the processors properly with this engine to achieve standard speeds, or you just didnt try all the options. turning off Bloom alone cut down on my frameskips by i'd say averaging at around 30%. Or hell, you could have 30 bonus programs running in the background, or you could even be a liar. LOL who knows, all I know is my crappy system runs the game great. Game looks good, Course feels good, I like my chances. (LOL)

"Sometimes, things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. People are basically good. Honor, courage, virtue mean everything. Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies."

well if it was one mid range pc that i ve played it on and seen it played on that argument may hold water . i ve seen it played on seven similar systems and all have problems with it so my feeling is that your one of the people that are very easily pleased with a games performance .

in fact buchanams statement is  a great example of the type of post people should ignore . hes says the same old things about programs running in the back ground . a great way of turning of some of these programs is using msconfig in your run menu by the way .  a lot of the start programs are drags on your system .

i m supprised he has nt suggested two defrags a week . checking regulary for spyware etc or even making sure you have the latest patch . or gone into how i dont know how to set up my graphics card properly .

sorry buchanam i m not trying to make you look a fool but to assume people dont know how to run thier systems is arrogant and shows just how much your opinion is really worth

where did you get 1 percent from as a statistic by the way or is that  just another sweeping generalisation .?

There is many ways to prevent that, Such as prevents chat in some aspects.  Just need a more alert Spam blocker. Like if someone says X to many Characters or Words or something it will pop a lil box with couple digit combo that you have to type in manually to resume talking.
