This revelation paired with a lack of serious attention to group play.. I just canceled.

I want to play an MMO designed for the PC player.

Sold out?  Well, if you feel betrayed by Funcom because they are moving into consoles and attempting to grab a bigger slice of the pie which is online gaming then yeah, they sold out.

I am pleased by this decision to move MMOs to the consoles.  Evolution baby!!  Its only a matter of time till MMOs are on the next gen consoles.  AoC is the first test.  If its a success then expect more to follow.

Well saying AoC is the FIRST test is an insult to EQ's Online Adventure. AoC is not the first MMORPG out there to go to consoles.

Edit: Also EQ Online Adventures was a good but not big success for a period of time for the Playstation.

Well, there's one thing that really puzzles me then...If there are so many people still having a hard time playing AoC because it requires a mid to top notch rig to run it, how the hell can a console handle it when the specs should not even be THAT close to a computer. I mean today's console games have terrific graphics, but in the end it will never be better than a computer.

I don't think it really requires much to run well. I think people are/were exaggerating that bit. I run AoC much better than LotRo. However I understand that there are certain pieces of hardware, drivers, etc that clash with the game.

Well, no...in the end the console will never be better than a computer.  In the beginning of its life, though, it will be better than most.  The reason why a console would run it better than a PC with equivalent hardware is because of all the other unnecessary applications and services running in the background, coupled with more peripherals, etc.

Also, to support Gazenthia's point that there are too many factors that will affect the way a game runs, LotRO runs better than AoC in my case.  Is his rig better than mine?  Who knows, but he runs a newer game better than an older game.  Wouldn't you think it would be the other way around as well?  Basically, way more factors affect a PCs performance.

Just in case you thought otherwise: I don't believe consoles are ever any better than PCs. I was just pointing out that AoC doesn't actually/necessarily require bleeding edge rigs to perform well, and the latest gen of consoles may meet the minimum requirement.

The last console I ever bought or played on was the PS2, the year that it launched :/

Final Fantasy(place # here) did it to, the mmo one. is a computer/ps2 mmo. so yeah.. AoC isnt even close to the 1st test, its been done a few times before.

yeah, they made a console game only to realse it on the PC a year before they release on the actual console, makes a whole lot of sense

this is a PC game that's going to be on a console, not a console game that is going to be on a pc.

Looking forward to:
The Agency, DC Universe, Aion

No...I did not think you thought that.  I stated my opinion that consoles, at launch, are better than most PCs that people own.  And I just wanted to add my flavor to your point, which I agreed with.

IMO, I think they thought of both from concept and not a decision that was made afterwards.  This game was designed with both platforms in mind.  And come on....the XBox is just a PC in a fancy plastic case.  We are talking about Microsoft.

I own a Wii and a PS3.  Some games are just better on PCs, some on consoles and some really makes no difference.  Hell, some games are better on the Wii then they would be on PS3.

It doesn't make a lick of difference if AoC was designed from the ground up to be XPlatform.  If the content sucks, that's what will make a poor game.  If things are packaged well together, the game will be good as well.  If it has mass appeal, then the chances of it succeeding are better.  To say (like the OP) that you can't make a game with an interesting story, good fun, good graphics and good performance because the console is a lesser platform is just plain ludicrous.  Let's look at the success of GTA4.

For the record, my preferred poison is the PC game.  I got consoles so that I can gather with friends and play some group games and have beer and play the drums and guitar and think I'm a rock star!   On my PC, I prefer to shoot, slice and maim the whole lot of you (or die trying, which is what usually happens).  Then the wife calls me and I go AFK.
