I don't doubt the 400k sub number.  My question is what will that number look like after 30 days?

-Currently playing WaR. I like it. I don't care if you don't. No, I don't think your a troll just because you don't like it, I simply don't care that you don't like it. This does not make me a fanboi.

Good question. Hard to tell at this point. And no, if anything, these forums are hardly an indication of anything. If they were, WoW would have flopped years ago.

The price for freedom is eternal vigilance

I am pretty sure those numbers wont drop anytime soon.

They have a great release, honestly, alot better then WoW.

WoW had less bugs, but was hardly playable at release due to lag.

This release is as good as LOTRO and DAoC.

Then about the bugs, yes there are bugs, but so far I havent seen anything gamebreaking.

The only thing that can stagnate the growth atm is the very high system requirements. I read everywhere that the minimim requirement was 6600GT, but you can barely run it on a 7950GT 512MB.

Nvidia surely loves Funcom now, cause their 8800 series sells like crazy.

The 8800 series ( and the ATI 3870 and better ) are the only cards that can run the game ok with nice graphics.
Oh yah, cards like 7900GTX and 7950GX2 can run it too I bet, but not many people have those I think, cause it were the top cards of the last generation.

Also out of the 400.000 sold how many are one person buying more than one copy from different outlets in order to get all the pre order items?

it is not 400k sold it is 400 entering the world ie subscribing.  You would buy and enter preroder codes from different companies on different accounts if you intent was to get all the items for one toon.  THeir figures of over 700k sold and 110k CE editions were copies solds not preorders.

You're posting false information.  The press release states 700k SHIPPED to retailers and that the 110k CE preorders had also sold out.  The very article even stated that "Lucky customers may find some copies on retail shelves but no re-orders are available"   All those big numbers are preorder based.

Now the new release of 400k is 400k entering the world which could directly translate to units sold  even though you could argue that the 400k could be as few as 200k units actually sold and 200k buddy keys used (remember CE has 5 buddy keys too)  but for now they don't have a true "subscriber" number since everyone is still in the free starter month.

Just for the record, I actually like AoC and plan to stick with it after the first 30 days. However, I think you are being a bit biased for Funcom. For instance, a particularly game breaking bug right now is the Trader not being available due to a really nasty exploit that would have permanently crippled the economy for the duraction of this games life. They were right to take down the Trader, but without it, people are getting upset. The inventory space available in game is game breaking, because it fills up faster than you can complete a quest. It costs a fortune to buy another back and those bags only offer as little as 4 extra slots. The Trader is very important, because it acts as a Bank, Auction House, and Mail. If we had a bank to store things, people wouldn't have so much inventory problems.

This game also has some serious class balance issues. In a PvP game, where people are expected to solo the majority of the content, classes should be balanced to 1v1 PvP. Some classes outright suck compared to others in PvE and some classes are outright horrible against others or all classes in PvP. This isn't AoC specific, because every MMORPG goes through these growing pains. I expect plenty of class balance, buffs, and nerfs coming down the pipe-line in the coming months.

The issue is that some of the things broken in the game should have been fixed in beta. This game could have used a few extra months in Beta, but it really isn't doing bad for releasing earlier than they should have. There is definitely a lot going for this game and I doubt the numbers will fall much if not grow. AoC offers a mature game for players with above average systems, with a good PvP system. There isn't any game on the market offering this right now and truth be told, players with nice systems are dying for a game to test the limits of their PC's. PvPers around the world have been waiting for a game to offer FFA PvP servers and AoC offers it.

Game: Warhammer
Character: Monte and Validorn
Class: Witch Hunter and Swordmaster
Guild: The Guardians
Server: Phoenix Throne

This isn't exactly true seeing as nobody is subscribing to the game yet since everyone is still on their 30 free days. On top of this the article states that it is 400,000 people entered the world of Hyboria since it launched. On it being 700k copies sold if you read the article that I linked they stated it was 700k preorders and asked people who preordered to post their thoughts once they played it. Plus, that would make absolutely 0 sense which is what I was trying to figure out, why would 700k copies sell but only 400k people log in?

I'm really enjoying AoC, even though I found WoW mind-numbingly dull.  It's different enough to make it stand out and I'm sure it's got a long, successful future ahead of it.

Nice one, Funcom.

IMO, This game is horrible. I tried so hard to like it, yet I failed. Uninstalled it yesterday. If you want guildwars with a paid subscription this is the game to buy. Oh, don't forget you need a massively powerful PC to play it.

Luckily my friend's PC sucked so I got to play his account instead of buying my own :P I don't think it'll hold strong in the coming months. Expect the 400,000 to dwindle due to uncontinued subscriptions.
