Sexiness is my best attribute, I put all my points in it. |
No MMO's shouldn't be ported to consoles. Why plague the console kiddies with more crappy games? Once companies start making quality MMO's then they should port to consoles. Otherwise it is just an excuse not to innovate since the console players probably won't be as experienced with MMO's and won't ask for as much. If I was a game designer that wanted money I would definately port to consoles. I could release crap clones that would probably be picked up and played for lack of alternatives. Maybe the TESO will be on PC and consoles. To the people arguing about price and upgrading your PC. I have had mine around 5 years with the only upgrade being the video card which cost around $100. I can play pretty much any game that is on console and pc at highest settings at 1024x768, which I think is what most ps3/360 games can play at max. I'm only running a 7600GT. Even with my old video card I could play any game out there, just not on high settings. Then again I really couldn't care less about graphics. |

Anyways, mmos on consoles are great IF they are taken time to make a great control sytem. Some people say that since you can connect a keyboard and mouse to a console, you can play any pc mmo, doesn't that basically make the console a pc? (A pc without modding, internet, and any pc features of course) I don't know the exact definition of the pc, but the only difference is the interface, the ability to change some parts, and downloading. But consoles are getting closer to more freedom, as the PS3 has a internet browser already (though its not the best)
Game companies want to make money, plain and simple. If they had an mmo that had a great control scheme, and was fluent as a PC mmo, with advertising people would want to buy it.

MMORPG's heroes are the players, they need to interact in speech with each other. How ? Clickable dialogues ? Loading graphics (even more than Conan) ? MMORPG's on consoles will be just instanced games à la Team Fortress with an added itemisation over it. Final question: do you want to pay 12 Euro's each month just to play Team Fortress with saved up gear? Answer ?:

How in the hell does owning a console make you some sort of crazy kid whose gonna ruin your experience in a bloody mmo... jeeze, talk about elitist crap from idiots.. what, kids dont play on PC's?... oh thats right, the demographic for xbox360's and PS3 is from 10years an under. All my mates and were all 30+ own both consoles and PC's and i for one wish the hell all the mmo's came out on the consoles so i dont have to sit at my PC and can instead play on my 50" 1080p TV in the confort of my sofa using a joypad... oh wait what about typing you all say, its the 21st century, talk ffs or use the xbox360 keypad which looks great... now granted you cant get the same sort of control as a mouse and keyboard but im sure with a bit of perseverance people could become pretty proficient with it, just look at people playing FPS's using a joypad so every argument you have against this is completely mute and without reason, i wish the hell they'd port wow to the 360... |

These conversations always go toward the keyboard + mouse vs. controller debate. Long ago, I figured out that PC gamers think the gamepad is inferior because they suck at using it and vice versa for console gamers. I happen to be competent with both so the entire argument is retarded in my opinion. It's the gamer, not the controller. As for the moron that claimed that you couldn't change console games... If you can update, you can change anything. You're still stuck within the hardware limitations of the console you're working with, but If you can figure out a way to optimize the graphics engine to shoehorn in a few more bells and whistles then you're free to change that. And since gameplay is separate from graphics it's supremely boneheaded to claim that you can't change anything about gameplay. You can make doom turn based on the SNES is you wanted to. Or you could add the ability to lean around corners. I don't know why you think that a platform that allows patching wouldn't be able to make the same gameplay changes as a PC game. |

Play what makes you happy in the pants and shut the fuck up about everything else. |
Originally posted by shade313 What consoles are you talking about? You speak of mmo's being "dumbed down and modified" for less capable machines? While I agree, if you look at it from a pure hardware standpoint, the consoles are inferior. However, that's not the way it works. As I've said before, console games usually run games much better then pc's as they are held to a higher standard for release. In addition, they are made for one set of hardware, as opposed to pc development where scaling for low end machines is a constant battle. I have a pretty strong pc and most new games that are for both 360 and my pc, play much more smoothly on the 360. PC developers know that they can get away with putting out a buggy piece of shit and patch the hell out of it later. As far as the controller vs. mouse and keyboard, i for one hate controllers. It's hard as shit to play with. One can only hope for more mouse and keyboard support in console games...lol |
