Emerge from your childhood, friend, and awake! (Jean-Jacques Rousseau)

I don't want to insult all of you gamers who spend a lot of time on this game, but Guild Wars is not a serious MMORPG. I know this argument seems a bit banal, but it still is an important point to make for those people who are still looking for that other really good MMORPG to start as a trade up for a previous one which has gotten somewhat old. First of all, the game is developed off of a point and click environment, while it is possible to configure your controls to do the traditional WSAD movements, and other key based imput, the characters were originally designed to look pretty and move like tanks. Also, in battle you will often just find yourself rapid firing or continuously mashing buttons quickly in order to kill (or affect) other characters (or MOBS); therefore, it is not really a good game for the thoughtful gamer who likes to deliberate over his gaming technique. A bright point to the game is that the interaction during battles happens very quickly, although this is also a weakness because there is very little thought or strategy that can be put into the game.

Second lets talk about content; Guild Wars is not a pay monthly game, and for that reason it is important to understand that the content suffers as a result. One thing that I have noticed as time goes by is that the new releases (or expansions) happen in yearly increments. It is also interesting to note that with each new content addition that the Guild Wars Team has put out, there has been a steady decline in the amount of content (while the pricing of the new content remains constant). Does this seem like a rip off? It all depends on how you look at it, for I must remind you there is no monthly fee, therefore one should hesitate somewhat before making this judgment about the game.

Thirdly the community is not a wide enough consumer base to cover all of the expanding that has gone in to such a game, making exponential increases in tournament and quest areas when the fan base has not compounded enough as a result to cover all this new territory. As a case in point, I am often waiting twenty minutes to an hour in a challenge area or a quest town for a party to join in order to complete a quest, but to no avail; and oftentimes when I finally find a party for a specific task, it is often filled with people who have no clue what challenge we are up against. Sometimes I find a good team, but oftentimes this game is filled with people who have no idea what MMORPG teamwork is about.

Finally, this game is one-hundred percent instanced (all accept for the towns and arena concourses) which makes for another aspect of the game which cuts down on the community and role-playing aspect. Personally I like the old fashioned style MMORPG (which I would call the authentic or genuine MMORPG) which gives people an opportunity to interact with one another more thoroughly while outside of those puerile chit-chat centers in town, or the arena waiting areas even if it is just going through the motions of sharing MOBS in an area, or farming valuable items. Sure this can turn into a grind-fest, but what is the point in spending hours upon hours in a game with nothing to show for it (which is the basic meaning behind the grind).

Therefore, my final thought on this MMORPG is that it is a game for teeny-bopper (unexperienced) players who have not yet learned the intrigue and contentment found in those more fleshed out MMORPG games of our time. So if you plan on trying out this game at some point in the future, expect a lot of childish dialog, and hair-brained fighting tactics, for that is precisely what this game is about.

That is it.... Thanks for listening... Now I take you back to your regularly scheduled programing.

There have been countless threads about this same topic...please search.

Oh, and the general consensous is that it is not your traditional MMO, but one in its own right.

P.S. The pricing has not remained constant. Yes, it was the same for both the three campaigns (which all included the same amount of content), but GWEN is cheaper as there is less content. The developers have stated that themselves.

Fine, call it an MORPG if you're so picky. But it's a different type of game and I happen to like it (aside from the instancing, but you get used to it). This is not meant to be a real hardcore gamer's game...it's more for casuals (instant PvP chars, level 20 cap, easy to group and level...) and that doesn't make it a bad thing.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

Order of the White Border.

Ehm... OK... I forgot that 'Eye to the North' is a measly ten dollars cheaper... You got me dead to rights on that one (yawn)... But I heard it takes like ninety hours to get through the miniscule thing. Thats like a walk in the park in any true MMORPG world. I'm sorry, but I think the Guild Wars team could have put a little more content into it for a $39.99 package deal. And what is with most of the skills in this game... They read like a Windows Vista installation manual. For instance, I could have sworn I saw one which stated the following:

If you are below 25% health and you hit a foe ten to twelve seconds after you activate the skill, you will do 23-25 points of extra damage; otherwise, you come down with a nasty cold as you pass GO but must not collect two-hundred dollars. Then again, if your foe is sporting a leisure suit, your entire party gets a constant ten minutes of +7 regeneration. But if the leisure suit is brick-red, watch out because that weapon you are wielding has a fifty percent chance to shatter into a thousand pieces, and give you three seconds of blindness as the shards of metal hit your face.

How about they put a greater number of skills into the game that might actually be useful for someone who is not versed in the title patency clerk profession, or no longer presides as a senior lexicographer at Websters. In most of the jobs I tried, I found at the very most a 15% utility rate on the abilities that the game offered, the others just seem like they are made so verbally (and algorithmically) complicated that it becomes quite insipid, or unreasonable even to consider them in any situation. Plus the game moves too fast and clumsily to justify even putting that amount of strategy into it (if you want to call a textbook semantics problem a form of strategy in a MMORPG... Errr... I mean a ORPG).

Thank you for listening to the gossip... Don't be too insulted by this thread... I don't want to see you little kiddies cry too much over this post. Heh Heh Heh.

Wow, how many times will this be posted. Its not an MMORPG, i think thats been agreed on. Its a fun game though and you cant be the sub fee. If its not for you, play something else. if it is get over the fact that its a different kind of game. i love the game, but even if i didnt i applaud them for doing something different.

Don't hate the game for your inabilities

And for the second time - Guild Wars is a game for casual players that can be played hard-core if you want to. Sure, GWEN may only have 90 hours of quests/missions (so says you), but the point of GWEN wasn't so much the storyline in the first place. The hall of monuments is enough to justify a purchase in my opinion.

Lastly, it's clear you are unable to deal with a game that requires skill, planning and fast-reflexes. I suggest you go try something else instead of starting more threads that have already been discussed time and again

P.S. If they wanted to "make green" out of their customers, they'd charge a monthly fee

all the instancing is part of the formula to GW having no sub fees. and GW turns out to be a vry successful game
