Ok, been playing a bit with Vanguard for a couple days, trying to decide what class i'm gonna play, so far i cant seem to make a choice. I have a question about the pets, i played a necro and a druid both have pets but i noticed that their pets dont seem to hold any aggro ? What's the point of a pet if he can't hold aggro for any kind of time ? Maybe i'm too low level, maybe it's a taunt spell i havent gotten yet, anyone can enlighten me about pets holding aggro ? |

If buying Marijuana supports terrorists, legalize it so we can buy American. |
Originally posted by AguithaNecro pet tanking at low levels is rather difficult. It really requires that you curtail your DPS, which only adds to the difficulty since you have no substantial pet heals. You're best bet until you're over level 30 is either agro kiting or fear kiting. I never played a Druid (and they have changed a lot since I last played VG) but I don't think their pets were ever supposed to be hate generators. |

Originally posted by Aguitha Necro pet has taunt spell at around 10 or so, but what actually will enable necro pet to hold aggro will be 2 things. A good graft, rending fist or such, and FD. BTW, Bear shaman also has a pet that tanks and hold aggro well, actually tanks better than necro pet due to the special heal they've got. |

When you get your pet as a Necro he has the taunt ability, and if you want him to take aggro you will have to MANUALLY hit that hot button (unless there's a macro, but I never found how) I'll teach you a trick....If you played EQ,, necros use a tactic called "fear kiting" all they would do is use the spell that lowers movement speed with dot/ use other dot spells/ and run around until its dead and your pet will do some dps while you have aggro. Also another tactic (which is fear kiting itself) dot the mob with the slow movement speed and use your other dots then when all your dots stick, just use the fear spell and let him run wildly around. Those are the best tactics to use if you wanna play a necro. Pet's arent supposed to "tank" for ya as they die really quick and drains a lot of mana healing him so he wont die. They are meant to be a form of DPS and backup damage taker for you in tough situations. But whoever said 2 necros duo is a bad combo is totally wrong...Both my brother and I have necros and we can kill up to 20+ monsters at a time...The tactic? Both pets on same mob, dot dot dot. slow movement speed dot ONLY 1, and whoever has aggro on that mob runs around while the other necro does the dps. ALL ADDS fear them and keep doing it when they run back...once the first mob dies whoever has the lowest mana drains the target, rinse and repeat :) the whole way of balancing mana in this situation is to CONSERVE it, dont waste mana needlessy...
Edit: I forgot to answer your question about pets "holding aggro" the answer is simple...Dont out dps your pet...the more damage you do on the mob the more hate you generate from it, and if you're generating more hate than your pet can well they will turn to you... |

If you want a tank pet go with the Shaman Bear. That's what that pet is designed for. |

Yes, the Bear pet is a pretty powerful tank. However, from what I've seen, the necro pet looks far and away more interesting because you can equiip them with graft, different abilities, pet drops etc. |

Originally posted by boojiboyYes but the bear has some of the best buffs in the game ,as a matter of fact one buff is the best melee buff you can get. He can also hold aggro better than any necro pet and does not need to kit the hell out of the mob. Their are only two real full time pet classes in VG one being the necro and the other the shammy. I have a bear shammy but i personally think my Disciple out solo`s them in many ways. |

Originally posted by csthao I was clearly not speaking about duoing, which isn't much different from solo kiting, but group and raiding where corpses are not abundant and kills are slow. Fear is a overused tool until you get to a point where mobs are all immuned to it. |

My Necro is only level 20, but my pet has no trouble holding agro. When you summon your pet you get a new little hotbar with a bag (grafts) and a skull (taunt) icon. Right click the skull icon, thats your pets taunt. You should see a little dagger in one of the corners. Now your pet should taunt the mob when he attacks and will keep taunting when it re-freshes. On 2 dot mobs send in your pet, cast your dots then your nukes. Your pet will lose aggro, but by the time the mob reaches you the mob is nearly dead. On 3 dot and above your pet will need good grafts like the poster mentioned above to hold aggro. It's best to learn and experiment with different tactic's due to situations fear kiting not being an option. |
