The folks at Stargate Worlds have announced that over 100,000 people have applied for the Stargate Worlds Closed Beta.

Holy Hannah! In only half a month the closed beta registration list for Stargate Worlds has exceeded 100,000 applications! "This is a huge milestone for our game," said Community Manager David Read, "but as a big Stargate fan myself this comes as no surprise. In the words of Executive Producer Brad Wright, this franchise has 'got legs,' no matter what medium it reaches. Stargate Worlds is sure to excel."

If you haven't gotten around to registering for closed beta, now is the time!

It just means that players of Wow and other older MMORPG's are constantly searching for the holy grail.

Hype, hype and still more hype: here we come with the 1288511th version of hype.

And, the first MMO do match WoW's polish and fun level will steal all of those players for themselves (better be Warhammer Online).

Both AoC and WAR won't be that game - not a chance.

Aion looks promising tbh.

I registered.  I know it will end up being run of the mill MMO, but I love Stargate.

Who is John Galt?

I think SGW should calm down on the "OH man, we have XXX beta registration..." news events. When they hit the 1 million mark, fine.

Do something else to create news, something game related, not something surrounding the game.

MMO Subs:
WoW, CoH, DDO, Eve, FFXI, LotRO, Sb, SWG, Vg

Following:
Stargate Worlds and Earthrise

They're doing it to get more beta applications, apocalance.

And Zorndorf? Yes, it's true a lot of folks are looking for "the next big thing" but a lot of those 100,000 are interested because it's Stargate, not because it's an MMO necessarily.

Warhammer Online is proudly touting it's almost 700,000 beta signups on their front page. Not that they need help in the hype department, with so many fanboys talking the game up, despite never having played it...

Stargate Worlds is actually looking to do some interesting things which most people aren't really hearing about because Stargate Worlds has nothing like the hype of a Warhammer or a Conan.

If they want to be proud of getting 100,000 signups for a not-widely-known beta signup for a game that sounds like it might actually do some unique things in MMOs, what's so wrong with that?

Hopefully the general public will give them a fairer chance than you guys when it's released.

Keeper of
the Fence

I'd like to know out of those 100K how many are going to actually contribute to the polishing and fixing of the game?

I smell 99K players looking to play something for free.

I could be wrong... and I usually am. Hurray for opinions.

i registered since the site launched, watched the progress since. It is the genre, not all like sci-fi, they more into FANTASYland and fairy tales, not some UFO.  But i have been watching stargate since the first episode, then atlantis, it is one of the best epic stories so far in any mmo. I wonder though why only 100k, i think the reason is not many know about the game at all, it will get more if they release some details about the game, so far all we got are some screenshots and artwork, unlike Warhammer online, it has dev videos and lots of info posted allready. I myself wont bother with that game as it is just an other fantasy mmo. Nothing new, But if you read the sgw forums you will see, that it will be something new, that no one else has done ever before. I just can't believe how many times i run into problems with these games. This time i goto register for beta and for some reason no cookies to save passwords.I try every password i ever used and still no dice.I try to reset password and it says password change still pending ..lmao..that must have been several weeks ago.I tried the ONLY email i got from them and clicked the link but says already registered lol.I give up,no way on earth am i bending over backwards for ANY game.

Games are suppose to be there to relax not drive me insane.

Same thing i tried to download the beta client for requiem and lol...too many downloaders and fileplanet [usually dependable]keeps giving me an error trying to download it.It just seems to me that ALOT of games are too unorganized, especially first timers.I have NEVER run into any problems playing an SOE game ,even vanguard if you want to include that.

When comes to getting players to join a game it SHOULD be extremely simple. After we get into the game, then i don't mind if it gets hard,i actually encourage it.
