the reason for a major source of crashing and instability with ApC running on Vista was the absent of service pack 1. Please make 100% sure you have updated your Vista installation with Service Pack 1! It should have installed automatically, but it is also known to sometimes fail.

Get it through Windows Update (Start->All Programs->Windows Update), or download the stand-alone version here:

The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp.

I admit it's good to warn people, mate but let's face it. A lot of issues had little to do with SP1. SP1 fixed some things and the 'broked' others.

I agree with this 100%. I was crashing 20 times a hr and on the last day of open beta i tried this and everything was fine, not one crash.

SP1 is great, but I have had it installed for a while (LONG before AoC Beta) and it didn't help me at all with the crashes in AoC.

The problems have very little to do with SP1.  I have had it installed from day one and finally when my crashings reduced it had nothing to do with that or anything other that I did.  My pc is exactly the same as I had week ago.

Funcom are trying to reduce the memory load of the game.  It simply has to go under 1 gb to work properly considering 1 gb is minimum for the game.

This is truth, I don't think SP1 had much if anything to do with people crashing.  I didn't have it installed during OB, and I crashed several times as mentioned.  But, after FC did their performance patch it ran nigh flawless on my end.

Wrath of the CowBell King

Installing it on my gf's computer.  I'll let you know how it runs when the game launches.

I wish I had vista so I could use my dx10 :(

I'll wait and see after the REAL game comes out before I buy this 100 dollar program.... Hellgate London Crashed a lot do to the same reasons, after 1 or maybe 2 small patches, it stopped.. completely.
