I doubt WoW will die, but it's population will diminish when a few good MMOs come out. I don't think any one game will hurt WoW much, but if multiple games come out that are good, people will flock to each. |

I don't think WoW will die out really, but it's not going to have the cult followings other MMOs like UO, Eve, EQ have.
Once you've geared up the game is over for you. There's nothing left to do. |

It is widely recognized that TBC is a vastly superior experience than "Vanilla" WoW ever was! the Quests are better, the Dungeons are better, the Raids are better, the environments are better and even the PVP is better! To the main topic: I've seen these threads created since WoW got released to great worldwide success "three months and wow will die" Is very near an actual quote of those times, 2004, right here on these forums. Well, it is 2008 and wow is still alive and with most subscribers ever and now preparing to release a Russian client.... tell me, how many MMorpg you know of , not made in Russia, have a specific Russian client? Not many. So I can see WoW going on for a really long time still considering many not nearly as succesful games like EQ, UO, D&DO are still alive and kicking. Will it lose population? I guess eventually it will, nothing last forever and all that, but companies need to understand one thing, like Activision CEO said it himself: If you are gonna make a game similar to WoW, you NEED to BEAT it. Being similar but worse will mean most of your customers will try it once and return to WoW. How can you beat WoW on its own turf? I have no clue, do not even know if you CAN. So diversify is the keyword here, make new different things. AoC and WAR will maybe do this, not challenge WoW but create your own new experience.

10+ years from now on we will still be seeing these idiots mumble how WoW is going to die, and we'll just sit back and pretty much laugh at their failure to even comprehend a fraction of what actually really makes this game tick.
idiots said WoW would die with the TBC expansion and the changes that came with it, did it die? No, it became even bigger.
Now the idiots are saying the same thing ,they said before the last expansion, but they still don't get it.....
I'm not even playing WoW any more but I'm not an idiot who fails to see that WoW was actually a great game and had many qualities that other mmorpgs weren't able to reach. All i see here, amongst the bad mouthing people,, are a bunch of burned souls, haters, and downright ignorant toolboxes, whose spiteful nature just seeks out to find something to hate or complain about.
Can only pity those who have nothing but hate left for a game...... a game. Makes you wonder what trauma they went through since they are at such state. |

when its addicts have had enough... No seriously. Because WoW's numbers are all international you don't know where its growing or receding- it could still be growing in like Asia! |

Yesterday Vivendi (mother company of Blizzard) released a report in which they confirmed TWO things: 1. At the end of the 1 st quarter of 2008, Wow had a whopping 10.7(!) million active subscriptions. Again a growth of 700K over the end of 07. Before attacking these figures BE aware that Vivendi reports its financial reports in audited form before taxes. 2. Even more important: in the report Vivendi stated that the WotLK extensionexpansion will be released in the second half of 2008. So guess what:.... With a booming European market on all frontiers (Spanish servers are completely full and closed these days and Russians servers are under way), a Spanish client market for the Americas and a eastern market where only in the last 6 months TBC became widely available.... .... guess that with the release of WotLK .... even 15 million paid subs isn't far off. Now, what in God's name has Cinese or Russian subscriptions have to do with our English servers??? One BIG thing: DEVELOPMENT resources. Already a billion dollar complany, Blizzard is now SKY high in development resources. And dear fellows; it shows ! just watch the difference in polishment of Wow and all newly MMO's published in the last 3 years. So Wow will just grow the following 2 years. Like it or not. |
