Before WOW, there were MMORPG''s. After WOW there were online solo single RPG''s. |
I like ALL of the following: 1) New fantasy game 2) PVE-based 3) Has stinging death penalty (to induce fear, excitement and respect for the game world) 4) No in-game tutorial; everyone starts in racial starting area 5) No bread-crumb trail of numerous frivolous quests (just an anti-social form of grinding is all that is) 6) Game world designed as a world and not a linear-pathed amusement park 7) No cartoonish graphics; serious graphics only. Need not be top-flight graphics, however. 8) Serious game world, no modern-pop era jokes in game. 9) Fantasy-appropriate naming policy actively enforced. 10) Zone-based design for chat and community-building purposes. 11) TRAINS. Yes, TRAIN TO ZONE!!!!! Nope, nothing like the above appears on the horizon. In fact, quite the opposite appears to be heading towards us. Even ol' Everquest no longer looks like that. I'm not alone in my desire for this sort of game, am I. |

I do not know if you are alone, but I'm not exactly thrilled by your description either. |

I am with you. Throw in faction and a meaningful Diety system and we are in a game. |

Darkfall has almost every one of those features. Releasing this year, read up on it and enjoy. (it is PvP focused, some would say, but I got attached to it due to the sheer amazing PvE possibilities they described about raiding, dungeons with added dangers, trade caravans, naval voyages for treasures, and of course the demi gods) |

Vanguard matches a lot, as far as I understand your requests: 1) Fantasy yes, new ? Well its a year old now. 2) Definitely (except you play on the PvP server) 3) No not really, sorry. Up to level 6, no penalty at all. After that, it starts low, then gets harder and harder over time. And in the raid zone you die alot unless you managed to get a good experienced raid force. 4) No tutorial for adventuring (*), you can skip over crafting and diplo tutorials if you want to (and you dont need to do these two at all). 5) ... ??? What does that mean ? Theres of course questlines in the game. 6) Definitely 7) Definitely 8) Definitely 9) Definitely 10) Theres a ton of different ways to communicate with others 11) I have no idea what "train to zone" is (*) Your first character will soon start in a special tutorial island, where also trial characters will be placed; your second and every next afterwards will start as usual in their races town.

You are not alone, I also miss the old days of EQ 1. Sad to say you are not likely to find it again :( |

So just now you got some secret information regarding Bioshock's upcoming MMO that tells you it won't feature any of these? Of course it depends on how far away the "horizon" is, but I would consider Bioshock's to be on the horizon. And also you're way to specific and... closeminded; just because you once enjoyed a game that featured those aspects doesn't mean you can't play any other game. |

Its normally a "zone" which is a dungeon and has one or two entrance/exits. People train when: b) Cant be bothered to clear to the exit so run through the mobs creating a train. Normally, its customary to shout you are doing this and in EQ1 if a dungeon had two exits, people would insist you use the proper exit for training. |

Trains could also be used as a powerfull griefing tool: in Anarchy Online whas easy to train a group of big worms into a big concentration of lowbie playres in Temple of Two. Resulting in a wipe there. Hilarious griefing. Vanguard has a very limited set of mobs with "not limit" activated. Some mobs on the r | |
