Hello dear Aion fanatics :) !

I didnt found yet how World PvP will work, im particulary worried about the ganking issue. How will Aion handle such issues?

I love pve and pvp, however i hate being forced to pvp when i'm doing the final quest of the chain, or i'm really focused in getting something done, or i'm in the process of getting a final reagent, and suddenly a group of 2-3 the opposing faction, simply decided to ruin my gaming day, by killing me over and over again (believe me, there are people like this in all the games, whom actually have fun with others saddness).

So what is the feature that Aion will have to prevent such frustations? will ganking be allowed? will you be able to be steamrolled when doing your quests by players of much higher levels? or will it have a protection system, that the player will only engange in pvp fights, whenever the it desires?

kudos

Katzu

Griefing in Aion sounds complicated, I already made a thread explaining how PvP works in Aion, guess it's time to do it again.

PvP against your own race:

At the moment there are 2 known ways, through duels and through arenas. Any player from your own faction can challenge you to pvp, consequences are still unknown for me, but you don't die, and you don't loose anything out of them afaik, then we would have arenas, which are just for practice or for fun in Aion, no items nor rewards are given through arenas.

PvP against the opposite race:

There are 2 known ways, also.

The first of them would be through rifts (i think that's the proper english translations, even tho they are also known as direct portals).

Rifts spawn randomly on various locations connecting both halves of the world, the time rifts are up is still unknown for me, since in CBT2 they were opened the whole time for pvp testing reasons, but from what i've read those rifts won't last for too long so you'd have to hurry in order to get there.

Once a rift opens, a huge signal in the sky would announce them, so everybody will be aware of that. Now, you would be able to organize your legion in order to cause havoc on the opposing lands until they organize and zerg you down to kick you out of their lands, or you could try to sneak in if you're fast enough and hide while the zergs are around, then do your thing once it closes.

With those rifts you will be able to kill NPCs of the opposing faction, which would give you abyss points, or kill people until you are discovered, gaining abyss points again.

Then we would have the Abyss, aka the PvPvE zone. The abyss is a group of archipielagos placed in the middle of both halves of the world, that zone is where the Balaur (3rd faction, AI controlled) fly around in their draconic carrier (A living ship which will work as flying raid monster), the abyss is the best zone for PvE, it has the best mobs and the most rewarding ones, the abyss is also the place where you can get the draconic gear, which is a rare kind that can be only obtained there.

In the abyss, both races meet continously, so there you'll have the risk of pvping except when fortresses are conquered, that's where devanion mist appears.

Devanion mist is a phenomenum produced by the mixing of Elyos and Asmodians blood, it appears whenever fortresses are recently conquered, to assure that fortress lasts a bit on the winner's hands, and in those moments, people of the winning race would be able to farm in the abyss peacefuly, then again, its something that doesn't last long, and once its out, you would have the risk of pvp again.

As I said before, the abyss has fortresses and artifacts, artifacts are control points that would help your faction once you activate them. Fortresses sieges are on almost continously, and Balaur participate on them actively.

The Abyss is a FFA pvp area, if you want to step there, you must know you are probably going to pvp.

Now, about your concerns, it will be hard to be griefed, or so it seems. You have to consider that, if you're killed, you can always report enemy's status and people would help you against them to kick them out of your lands.

About ganks, well, it might happen, but then again, those cases will be weird if you know where to play. If you keep around near portals, you will obviously be ganked or involved in pvp, if you stay away from them, you can be pvp safe.

About high levels killing lowbies, it sounds complicated also. Portals open connecting zones of similar level, if a bunch of enemies spawn in a level 30 zone, they would have to go and walk until they arrive to the newbie zone (and then again, we don't know if pvp is allowed there), consider that to do that, they can't meet anyone in their way (which is complicated) and people would have to let them be around (you have global communication with your race to keep you safe afaik).

I think Aion offers something good for pvpers and non pvpers, and I think it might be attractive even for non usual pvpers, cause this system is quite regulated for those who don't seek blood, and eventualy you might feel like helping your faction, and, if you're a hardcore pvper, you will always have someone to pvp against due to the big profits of the abyss.

Aion is going to be so much fun! I can't wait! I love the whole PvPvE concept that Aion is going for.

Beautiful night tonight, wouldn''t you agree?

i believe the only place ou can get ganked in is the abyss, and if you head in there you should be vigilant to someone ganking you.

That is very understandable Dakota, since the Abyss is a PvP zone. My main concern is if i can be ganked in my normal leveling process.. i DO HATE THAT. you know, i like pvp, however i also like to have the freedom to choose when i want it.

Like someone near to me normally says

"Your Freedom ends where Mine starts" :)

I hate that too, dont worry. But seing how hard it is for enemy to get to other side, and how hard it will be for them to survive, i will doubt that ganking will interfere much while playing. ANd you cannot pvp with your race without consent from the other player. Overall, you should be able to lvl completely with minimal ganks.

More lvl,more portal rifts and more ganking,it's part of game but as u said,you will have the freedom of leveling in peace wherever you want,but normally all the great items are not instanced and you must combat with the opposite faction.We will see soon more about abyss on CBT3

PD:good post,mate^^

Hey, don't get me wrong, i like PvP, i love the ABYSS idea!

What i dislike, its questing in my zone, with my friends, and coming a lvl ?? player and gank us to death, that will make us logout of frustation.

That's something i had in WoW, and that's something i wont tolerate.

PvP -> Hell yeah

Ganking -> HELL NO!
