From playing the original Jumpgate, I would say its a lot like eve, but played on a flight stick, which kind of makes it very different to eve at the same time. It has a simplified version of eve's manufacturing, but than the population at the time I played it would not have supported something on the scale of eve. But you could see that it did have potential to be as big as eve's. Like eve you have good safe space and not to safe space, not so safe space has better minerals, similar to that of eve. its easier to get up and maintain a PoS, but eve's PoS's are more rewarding not that the way jumpgate works they couldn’t nick a few of eve's ideas and easily incorporate them into the game. I think if jumpgate nicked eve's ideas on things like electronic warfare, capital ships, large scale everything it would be one heck of a game. Potentially Jumpgate Evolution could be Eve on a flight stick, but from when I played jumpgate (the original) it didn’t have anywhere close to the depth that Eve does.

Originally posted by TheGreyMan Depends on which idea you're looking at. Its in Space, like Eve and you can play different roles, like cargo hauler, miner, fighter. But besides that, its very different from EVE. In EVE you have a character that you 'train' to get specific skills/specials. Jumpgate doesn't have Character skills. Flying and fighting is all about PLAYER skills. Jumpgate is a Space Flight Sim, like Freelancer, Wing Commander, Freespace, etc. You don't have a skill tool bar and you don't get Rank 10 fireball or rank 5 Afterburner :) . You can gain certificates to use different ships and you have a profile with stats like kills, deaths, medals you've earned and your faction standings. There is equipment and ship variety, scouts, bombers, fighters, miners, transports, newbie shuttle :) |

Beyond them both being based in space I hope the similarities end at that point, we don't need another Eve. One is more than enough, there are too many companies out there that used cookie cutter techniques to stamp out copies of games with no real diversity in a genre. On a personal note, I trust there will be an accountability system in place that will provide consequences to an individuals actions, something that Eve sorely lacks in any real substance. |

Another "idea behind EVE" is the single server thing, JGE definately won't have that. There last speculations I saw (and I'm not pretty up to date) is 2500-5000 per shard (which doesn't have to be a bad thing). |

EVE is more of a strategy game. Think Homeworld 2. This is more of an FPS. You actually get to manually fly your ship. |

My hope with jumpgate:evo was that it would basically turn out as a twitch based flight sim version of EvE, with the same scope and opportunities etc. What I've read briefly in their forums sort of makes me doubt that will happen, with talk of seperate servers with pvp rulesets and the like, or consentual pvp on pve servers, etc.... sounds like they are making another craptastic typical wow-like mmo based in space to me.. we'll see.

As said above, the main difference between JGE and EVE is that in JGE you will have direct control over your ship thereby reducing the strategic part a bit, but upping the action :-) |

Originally posted by Warnis There is just as much strategy involved with maneuvering your ship as there is with stat-based gameplay. Ask any vet from JGC and they will confirm that someone with the skills to fly a small fighter can easily destroy a player with a heavy fighter loaded out with the best weapons. The strategy involved is managing to keep your target in sight while still maintaining velocity to avoid enemy fire. |

I hope not. They need a stronger PvE element separate from PvP. From what I have read from the developers, that is what the developers are aiming for. |

ya I hope this game is much different from EVE but perhaps retaining some of the depth and good parts of eVE. getting away from time based training will be fun and piloting my own ship will be a blast |
