Cynical? Me? Never.

Hey, I haven't played since 2004, and I am completely lost. I thought I read that you can solo a lot easier now than before. So I had a mission up, and I went to do it. I was destroyed on my first encounter.

Ok, so can you solo or not? I remember leaving in 2004, because once you got to about level 8 or so it was too difficult to solo and I hate being lfg staring at my screen.

Secondly, how in the world do you even look for groups or flag lfg? I saw no options on the menu, and /lfg failed to produce a result.

Thanks for any help, as I am completely at a lost, since its been close to 4 years since I last played.

Flagging yourself usually doesn't get you responses you should use the social panel or type in /who and send out some tells.

As for soloing yes CoX is extremely solo friendly and you should be able to solo on lowest difficulty on just about anything.

I am not sure why you are having trouble.  Can you post what you have been trying to solo and what your powerset/AT is and what your powers are?

Also CoX kind of goes like this:

below level 6 - your are semi invinicible.  Most AT's attacks are basically the same.

6-12 - you start to need some defense and may have a full attack chain.

12-15-ish  - you start to miss a lot more with your powers as mobs get rebalance due to DOs.  Make it a priority to slot Accuracy maybe even to the point of only slotting accuracy.

15-22ish - you start to see mobs that have some more interesting/dangerous powers, things start hitting harder.  You need a more all around enhancement plan/build and the AT's start to differentiate.

22-30ish - things become more mature mobs are again balanced for SO, but you probably have stamina by now, thank god.

30+ - you start to get your kickass powers, but the mobs start having LOTS of mez.  In order to solo well you must come up with an answer to mez (protection, mez them first whatever).  Rikit will eat you alive if you don't have something.

40+ - mostly like 30+ but probably have a pretty robust build now.  May run into some things that were rare before like endurance drains.  Depends on what you fight

Also since you are new explore IO in the 20-30 range.  You can get more enhancment mileage out of your limited slots by using IO that enhance multiple things.  Don't bother with set bonuses until 30 or 40.  Certainly don't bother with the super expensive sets until 35+.

Every archtype can solo, some better than others, depending on the build.

CoV its a little bit easier to solo than CoH.

One thing to remember when you solo. There are going to be mobs that your character may not be able to defeat unless you bring along inspirations to help offset your weaknessness. If fighting a villain using holds and immobs, you may want to stock up on breakfree inspirations to keep these effects from stopping you. If damage is a problem for you, take some rage inspirations in to boost your damage for a bit. If a mob can blind you or reduce your accuracy bring along some accuracy inspirations.

When teaming, you may still need these, but buffing and damage and hold reductions may be powers fellow teammates will have to help keep the team going.

Just remember, when you meet a new villain group for the first time, you make take a few face plants until you understand what each group is going to do to you and how you can avoid it. Once you get to know the mobs, taking them down will be much easier and you'll be prepared for their attacks.

DOS 6.22 - fuzzy memories...

If you wanna solo, play Villains - the AT's there are solo-oriented, though they can work well in a well coordinated group; specially Masterminds - they're THE solo AT in CoX: perhaps some 10 times on your way to lvl 50 you might have to call in a friend to help take down a a Hero.

As for Heroes, Scrapper is soloable, but in either game, you get MUCH more XP grouping, so after some 20-25 lvls, you'll spend your time better grouping.

Now, to "flag" lfg, goto your chat window, on the top left of it, there's the TEAM button - click it and a window pops out to allow you to set your team status and to search ppl to team up with.

But the thing is you gotta learn to form teams, not just leech your way into a group. It may take a while but you'll get the hang of it. I learned and now when I log on, I don't have to wait for a group to pick me up, I open the window, look for a Tanker (to hold aggro), a Defender or healing Controller to heal the team, a Blaster or Scrapper to deal damage and a Controller to makes things easy for all. Call ppl some 2 lvls bellow or 1 above you, start on a low diff (rugged or less), pick a Radio/Newspaper mission and roll out.

Unless you play a controller or a dominator i can't see how you'd have trouble soloing at lvl 8. Unless of course you increased the difficulty. Scrappers in coh and brutes in cov are my favorite soloing archtypes.

I'm brand new to the game and my first character is a controller.  I've soloed so far up to level 30 with difficulty set on invincible.  I don't know if its just the AT and power set combo I used, but the game seems extremely easy to solo.

If you have a lot of problem with groups of mobs, maybe consider the teleport foe power?

The Controller is a powerful AT. But the point usually discussed is that soloing in CoX will take longer to get you to max level than if you teamup often. The game is challenging but not unbeatable - problem is if you don't wanna wait years to have a lvl 50, you better group with good players at all times.

On TP Foe, it takes too long... But playing on Rugged will get you mobs of a good size with fair difficulty - at the lower lvls, one might wanna go Heroic and increase the diff around lvls 20-24. By lvl 32, Rugged should be standard for most ATs and players.

Ya I wasn't saying soloing was optimal or anything, just that I find myself doing it often and it isn't hard.  And teleport foe is something I tried for the fun of it but dont really use...I was just pointing out that if you really have trouble soloing, it will be recharged for the beginning of each pull, so you can soften things up a little.
