So I paid an extra $5 for this 'Early Access" promotion after pre-ordering Age of Conan way back in January of this year. I figured why not pay an extra $5 to get to download the game 10 days before the release date and get to play it 3 days early, so I can spend some time this coming up weekend starting on Saturday to try this super hyped new mmo out for my first time. So it's a little late, but finally the email is in my box after I get home from work tonight that I can download it. And It has started its download at a whopping 5.4 kb/sec! ...And this download is 13.7 GB! (13780 mb) According to the "estimated time left" I only need to wait like 6 weeks for this download to complete, lmfao. Ummm, maybe I'd be better off just waiting for my DVDs to arrive a couple days after release and install it. And yes, I have a VERY fast cable broadband connection before some smart ass asks me if I am on dial-up, lol. ..But what if the lag in this game is similar to the download speed I'm getting for the download of this game now! ..Scary thought indeed. Anyhow, I've seen the few people who say that the lag in the open beta is horrid, and I've seen many more who say that the game is running fine even on older computers in massive PvP areas with tons of players fighting. So who knows. I haven't been following this game too closely to be honest. Just read a little here and there. But this looks to be a huge game (can anyone say "Vanguard") and even more hype then Vangaurd had last year. It DOES look like this game will be much more populated then Vanguard ever was, so maybe it'll be okay. Anyhow, just updating the AoC progress from someone who doesn't frequent these forums nearly as much as I used to. I was just kinda wondering if there is anyone who might be playing open beta or somehting that genuinely believes that AoC will be more successful and/or a better overall mmo then the upcoming Warhammer Online. Why, Why not? Peace out, and see you in Conan land at hopefully more then 5 fps. Heh.

either the servers are very very busy, god hates you, or your internet blows....
option 1 is 10% likely...
option 2 is 80% likely...
option 3 is 10 % likely...
i dont like your odds |

LOL. I somehow doubt that God gives a rats ass what kinda connection I have to download this game, but funny none the less. - Zaxx

What percentage of the download have you completed now, and did you start out really slow like this too, or did you start off at like 350 kb/sec?

I've been quite some time MMO-free since there really hasn't been any releases that fit my standard but being in open beta proved me AoC is the one I've been waiting for. The world is simply stunning and graphics are pure candy (haven't been able to test the DX10 features yet) and quests are nice and gameplay good. And unlike some I've had no performance problems at all. I was getting around 55-75fps all the time.
I really can't compare AoC to WAR. I have never been interested in WAR since it just looks... Well here we go again... WoWish. And all the videos I've seen just push me further from the game. I dunno, WAR might turn out alright too, just not my kind of game. So, you've started to pre-load your AoC already? Damn. :| And us euros can start downloading our pre-loads in 17th May. Or at least it says so in my email. :) (Anyone else from euro-area can verify this?) Well, we are not likely going to bumb into each others in game so I'll just say good luck and Cheers! |

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware "Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product." |

You are witnessing another Vanguard, a game released before it is ready with a client that has performance issues on many machines. Just watch the complaints flow after release. |

Using Verizon FIOS I will have the game down loaded in about 14 hours at 300KB/Sec I'm at the 51% point right now. Just FYI cable companies are known for f'ing with your internet speed Comcast is being sued down here in Texas for advertising one speed yet not giving that speed to users. The Lawyers where good the monitored for a month and had thier client call asking numerous times whats going on with the connection speed I hope he gets a pocket full of money so cable compaines come clean. Don't use cable connections they stink! Ajax |

Originally posted by Shannia O2 8mb plan, I'm less than a mile from exchange so get near maximum speeds for the line, where as previous address I was over 2 miles from the exchange and received half that speed at the best of times. Drop off is quite steep over distance for ADSL in countries with older telephone networks. ADSL2 is being rolled out this year though and I should see a boost in speeds when I get it in November of over twice what I have now. |

I have the early access card as I pre-ordered but I do not see where there is an option for me to pre-pay to download the early access? How do I set that up exactly? I have found the communication very much lacking in this area, and that bothers me. I am willing to pay for the access but at no point when I was registering my early access card did it prompt me to do anything more. All of the subscriptions i see are for Anarchy Online. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? |

Originally posted by bobfish Very nice. BT only had 1.5meg when I was there. Glad to see you guys are finally getting some bandwidth love. Nothing worse than paying for a 1.5meg connection and be thankful when you got 250k download speed. LOL

Just started the DL this morning before work and it was going at like 450 kb/s. I think its just your internet connection, I have a friend in another part of the US and he is only getting 50 kb/s. |
