Age of Conan

This is my #1 concern for AOC after playing the gankfest weekend. I said this in another post but to if the community going forward is made up of the same I will be seriously dissapointed. let me elaborate:

PVP- gankers, griefers, spawn campers, abound. It was rediculous in some areas. I cannot imagine what the fun of jumping someone as they respawn is. there is no challenge to it at all. I guess this is PVP for the weak of self esteem ( I can kill hundreds but only if they are not moving yet). I got ganked talking to NPCs all the time (mostly by rangers) and started smacking the hide button as soon as I respawned. I am just glad the normal gameplay wil not be like this. However, it may be a good example of the types of people who will be playing.

The chat channel- Good lord, even in WOW or free grinder MMOs  have I seen better. The "F" bomb was dropped at least every 10 seconds by some little worm who thought it was funny to bash people complaining about the spawn points and the ganking. According to these wonderful folks the entire rest of the players must be homosexual as "gay" and "faggot" seemed to be everyone's alternate name in global chat.

The chat bug- This bug which would make it seem like system messages were coming directly to you was exploited so badly it was sick. Once all the immature little gankers got a hold of this it was rampant.

I could go on but  you get the idea. PVP was more fun than not but the community was out of control and immature to a level I have not seen before and I have played most MMOs. This is the only thing, for me, that might kill the game as I think it is great otherwise.

The same immaturity is also shown on the official forum. My eyes bleed every time I browse it.

It happens every beta ive seen for pvp, dont allow the potty mouths of a few ruin the game for ya, it wont be like that come Launch. Ive seen exactly everything you just said it all the betas ive been in except one. Just enjoy what you can and report bugs cause thats what beta is for. as for the immaturity levels those are everywhere you see gaming nothng you can do about that except ignore them.

Keep in mind that this was a free play. So gave the chance for all the kiddies n AoC haters a chance to just be total asses. I am guessing the haters won't buy the game just to go in to bash it. Also lets hope that 'M' rating keeps many of the kiddies away. But I do agree that the community over the past week of OB was by far the worst I have seen in any game.

I am still going to play. I am definately going to a PVE or RP server though. I am pretty sure and very hopeful it will be better. Still, it is my only real fear for the future of this game.

Good thread, I made comments about this earlier as I have read a lot of people complaining about the 'teenage' mentality of the gamers playing.  I figure that if I can find a strong and mature guild then I can leave chat off and just stick with my own kind.  However I remember spawn point ganking in Vanguard and it used to piss me off.  I guess it created another element because once someone started to do this word would get out and they themselves would get hammered.  I personally think you should have an invunerable tag when you spawn for at least 30 seconds and not able to be hit if talking to an NPC. 

The key issue with a general community like this is, is when a new player joins and they ask for help in the general chat.  All the decent players tend to be caught up with their guilds so you will probably get comments like 'WTF you want fag?' or 'Another Noob to gank!' This could easily turn people off.  I am playing Tabula Rasa  right now and even though the game needs some work in key areas like crafting I keep playing because the community on a whole are really helpful and general chat is always active with some funny or interesting topics going on.  (EU) Best general chat in any MMO I have played. 

Mind you I have not been lucky enough to get a beta for AoC so I am only going on what others are saying.  Maybe all the immature prats are too young and won't be able to afford a sub :)

theres a segment of beta testers that are hyped out kiddies. So cracked out they beta test every game on te market and loud mouth.  Come a month after release time, they should die down.

I recomend a PvE server.  It sounds like you want to quest when your doing a quest and not get interupted with PvP.  People dont seem to realise that theres a TON of PvP elements on a PvE server.

PvP server is if you like to deathmatch all the time.  On a PvE server, the PvP elements are organized, its much better.

Beta chat channels are always abit choatic , i wouldnt be too worry only paying players will be there at launch so that should filter alot of the kiddies mouthing on the chats.

Same thing happened in TR to me , and alot of other beta, blame wow i say .

I agree with the posters above, every open beta I've been a part off has been the same. I must admit though the general chat on this open beta was pretty bad. Remember there are alot of kids who got into this beta  because of accounts set up for them by parents etc, i dont expect this to carry over into the game, well i hope not anyway. Besides I think a lot of them, from what I could gather from the open chat crap fest were going to roll a FFA PvP server anyway so the ones who want to play PvE wont have to deal with them, at least until they run out of people to gank anyway lol.

I looked at chat yesterday and I thought I was playing Counter Strike for a minute lol.

Just don't play on a full FFA pvp server. The people you don't like will most likely go to them and you can have a community that has other interests. Problem solved.
