Couldn't have said it better myself. WoW or not, these things are worth getting excited about.

For the Horde!

Imagine if Blizzard included beer and strippers with their expansion pack - real beer, and real strippers.  Haters would still post something like:

*Yawn*, beer.  I've drunken it before, it's nothing new.   And strippers?  I can watch porn on the internet anyway.

No matter what Blizzard do, no matter how good the new expansion pack, there is no pleasing these people.  They are in a perpetual state of self-destructive vicious circle of awaiting new MMORPG releases only to have them vomit into their faces before falling into the gutter of MMORPG street, later to be run over by Horde riding Kodo mounts screaming at the top of the lungs "oh my god this is so much fun, I hear they're including beer and stripper in the next x-pack".

To sum up: people will always whine, especially when theres an opportunity to bitch about WoW.

The real irony is, the whiners just end up playing the game anyways and continue to whine.  It's the quiet ones that fade away that keeps Blizzard up at nights.

Let's get one thing straight here.. I really do like strippers, and I mean in real life - real strippers are hot, and serve a valuable and respected spot in my own personal life (your's may vary, as it is my understanding we have damn good strippers here...)

only thing beer leads to? more beer...

It may be easy to discount my one, or a couple of other voices around this topic, but there is a huge population (especially here on MMORPG where people actually have played more than one MMO) of people that are outright DISGUSTED by the re-hash of WOW. The magic is gone from this game.. for me and for many others.. and once its gone, its gone.  I really did enjoy it for a long time, and for that I am happy. I would say I felt even more this way about EQ1, it was even more magical, dangerous, absurd etc... but, alas we all chase the dragon.

In honesty I am waiting for WAR... it is giving me that same feeling in the buildup.  AOC I have been on the fence about for a long time - might be fun, but nothing new for me there either. You may or may not like the inventiveness WAR is bringing to the table, but at least give them some credit for taking a step forward, for delaying a game for polish, for trying to make PVP actually mean something.

@coffee - who knows, maybe I will try it out, though i am doubtful, TBC left such a bad taste in my mouth, and if all is well I will be chasing the dragon in the next great MMO.

See the same posts time after time and i just chuckle! WOW is WOW, WAR is WAR, AoC is AoC, EVE is EVE and so on....they do not change the basic premise of the game and especially not while it is still making shed loads of cash.

It is all well and good to whinge and whine about the new contant and patter on about how there is nothing new, it is a re-hash or it is an idea stolen from somewhere else, but what exactly do you want or expect?? What do you want to see in the game that fits into the current framework without turning it into a game it is not???

I play WOW for the game it is, i enjoy it that way but if you don't enjoy it just don't play it, it is pretty simple! The only time that Blizzard will make any major changes to the existing format is when they are losing players hand over fist and as that is not the case, what more do you expect?

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Well it is only May. Blizzard may not have revealed everything.  I believe that is kind of their style, so I think there is more than meets the eye for the next incoming expansion.

If it really is as bland of an expansion as some people think it is, then they must be allocating their resources elsewhere....World of Warcraft II anyone?

They are making another mmo but it is not warcraft related according to Blizzard and is meant to be something different from what they have done before. Besides they have over 400 employees last time I looked some teams do not even have a 1/4 of that number to make their mmos yet they still produce something different each time with out rehashing content over and over again.

I think they simply rehash content because it is easier and more importently it saves them time and money. As you can see people still mindlessly buy their expansions and games even if they just keep rehashing over and over again, so they will keep doing it as long as people keep buying it.

It is not surprising really that they do this, when they get away with stealing peoples I.Ps and Ideas since the dawn of their company. Along with having a huge rabid fanbase that will buy any thing with Blizzard attached to it. I think when a company does not need to be very creative and try hard to stay afloat then that stiffles creativity which is probably why they rehash content so much and steal other peoples ideas so much.

I think there is an interview as well from one of the previous Blizzard lead developers that basically says the same thing that the company has got to a point where they just can not innovate they just play it safe.

I don't think anyone really expects Blizzard to add any thing that makes you go WoW(pun intended). Just like Burning crusade it will be another expansion that is more of the same with a few features that are new to get people to play the game.

By more of the same you mean like a new profession, 2 new races, 11 new zones, 3 new capital cities, 21 new instances, new quests and quest rewards for all the zones and instances, new mounts, new skills and talents for all classes?   And by new features you mean Flying Mounts, Heroic Instances, Daily Quests, Arenas, Looking for Group improvements, Socketable Items and Gems, Meeting Stone summoning etc.  Yeah, I'm really shocked Blizzard had the nerve to even call that an expansion.

Most likely the Death knight class will be overpowered it makes sense because they want you to buy the expansion, so having a new over powered class would be a good incentive for a lot of people to buy it.

Of course because simply adding a brand new class with a brand new combat mechanism alone wouldn't be nearly enough for people to want to buy it.  Only by tricking it up and making it overpowered would anyone want to play.

I would buy the expansion if they done something like added a new way of leveling, or remade all of the old zones like they did dustwallow marsh, or even remake azeroth so flying mounts can be used. It just does not look like they are adding enough to justify a 30 pound price tag especially when they make 1 billion dollars a year in profits off of WoW alone from its subscriptions.

You mean like if they like took an instance from Azeroth, like say Naxx and retuned it so that it would be worthwhile for people to go back and revisit it?  Yeah, that would be great, why don't you do that Blizzard ;)

Other, less profitable mmo companies like for instance Turbine release expansion size updates for free every 3 months, I believe CCP does the same every 6 months.

This has already been debunked here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/1930057#1930057

If they can do that in 3/6 months why does it take 2 years almost to copy and paste all of the old content and change its colour, and text for quests which is what that preview sounds like.

Blizzard has added just as much if not more in it's free updates as any of it's competitors.  If you disagree, then please state your case rather than stating it like it's a forgone conclusion which it most certainly is not.  You've haven't backed up a thing you have said with any facts.  None.  Please supply at least some shread of evidence to support any of your claims.

If new zones, a new class, new dungeons and new game play modes is rehashed content, then what isn't rehashed...an entirely new game?   What lazy bastards...they should recreate WOW from the ground up every 6 months=)
