I never did the pledge in school and no one ever said anything to me.

But I refuse to pledge allegiance to anything, I find it degrading to the individual, and I have never been one for empty gestures of patriotism.

America as an ideal stands proud.  It's just that the people within the country who are tasked to defend those principles are letting everything slip away.

Suspension might have been a little too much, but it wouldn't have hurt them to just stand there for 10 seconds with their hand over their heart.

I really, really don't like the ACLU

  I started having my own doubts/dislike for school/Goverment when i moved to a new school district in 5th grade and they did not say the pledge. Considering i had heard or recited it the 5 years previously it struck a chord with me and i asked why we did not say it in this particular school. Of course there was no real answer from the authority figure/teacher " We don't do that here" was the snippet of an answer.
 Undeterrred i talked with a couple of the other students and found the reason for it's removal was a threat of  lawsuit, You see someone from a foriegn land/immigrant did not want their child saying "One Nation Under God" Unless the God was further defined as to which God, the God of the jews or christians? Because their religion would not allow them to swear an oath to any other God than their own. 
 And they all just want to come here and be free. LOL 
More like subversion from the inside.

and move from protecting our rights, to protecting rights by limiting other's rights, which is an incredible gray area.

I wonder what would have happened if these 3 students were Muslims.

Yeah, thats just you though Goneglockin, you've been very pessimistic lately.  Or maybe thats just always been you, I don't know.  I think you need a change of scenery.  Spend some time in florida or california for awhile. Take a vacation.

GoneGlockin aside, yeah maybe they should have had them write a paper... it's not punishment technically, they could have just said they needed a reason they weren't standing on record.  Or perhaps it was just a mental handicap.

 

California man? I live in california gas prices are well over 4,25 a gallon where I live. 1/5 house holds are getting foreclosure. People go to Mexico Just to fill up their gas tanks or to rent a apartment because they can't make it anymore over here. The middle class has now become the lower class, the lower class is homeless and the upper class is now turning into the middle class. Seriously California is ???ed up.
