I did not play at release. How was the orginal Jedi concept at the beginning of the SWG's life? I recall that the player had to somehow unlock a jedi slot. Is this true? How did you unlock this slot? I thought it was something different for every player. After you unlocked the slot was your new character automatically a jedi like in the game now or did you have to go through much more? How do you differentiate between those who earned Jedi status the hard way and those who just now click and become a Jedi? |

Because there were 32 professions to master, and which ones would be your keys to unlocking a Jedi were completely unknown, there was a ton of time spent by alot of people gridning their way to mastering professions. Once you had the Jedi you had a new character slot. There was Perma death at first so people really had a hard time keeping their Jedi safe from Bounty Hunters while they tried to level up their Jedi. People took alot of pride in these characters, and it was a big thing, for the people I knew anyway, whether your Jedi was going to take a dark or light Jedi path. It semed to me that guilds also took pride in having a Jedi among their numbers. I was always struck by the way people would speak about "My Jedi" as if it were such a great character accomplishment. Nobody ever speaks about them that way anymore do they? Once you could have them as a starting character they were just ...cookie cutter people running around in the same outfits. Like the Clone wars had come to Galaxies but in the most lackluster way possible. |

The initial system was probably 5 silent professions. Nobody unlocked with this system so they introduced holocrons in Oct. '03, making the system "4+1", which means up to 4 holocron clues and 1 silent profession. This unveiled how the system worked and made it much easier to unlock. After a flood of jedi were unleashed the devs increased the number of silents to make it 4+2, then 4+3, then finally they stopped at 4+4. Sometimes holocrons went silent early. All confirmed cases in the past seemed to agree that this only means the player already did one or more required professions before using all 4 holocrons. So holocrons only told you your first 4 required professions rather than just any 4. (note - the spreadsheets for the intermediate and final system assume the first 4 professions were done using holocron clues.) Initial System (5 silent professions)
Notable findings in the final system: * There are 20,475 different combinations of professions that result in unlocking.
