"Why follow, when you can lead..."

Before the flames start let me get this out there; this post is not a WAR vs. WoW. Rather its a few questions that I have that maybe the average, everday player can answer for me.

1. Is WAR going to be worth quitting your favorite game to pay and play? For me not really. I've been playing WoW for several years. I enjoy it, I play with 'real life' friends, 'online' friends, and have multiple 70s.  For now I can't see quiting my current game to start the long ardous trek again.

2. Is WAR bringing anything new to the genre? Not that I can see. It's a fantasy based game (ugh another fantasy MMO); i.e. elves, dwarves, orcs, blah, blah, blah. I love the Warhammer fantasy setting, in fact I would call it 'gothic-fantasy' (I ran the pen & paper game for several years, check it out if you get the chance). I really hope to see it implemented in the online version. For now ,though, it seems to be another fantasy MMO.

3. Iconic IPs have had a terrible time being brought to life via online gaming: Dungeons & Dragons, LoTR, AoC (I don't see this game going anywhere, but we'll see). Will WAR be any different? Not sure yet. But there is a lot of hype surronding this game. I for one really hope it lives up to it.

4. will the current players of the tabletop game find their way online? I highly doubt it. The niche gamers are very loyal to thier way of gaming. Most have groups that meet at least once a week at their favorite comic book shop. That type of interaction can not be replicated online (yet).

What I'm trying to get at is simple; WAR needs to stand out from the crowd in a MAJOR way. Questing, PvP, dungeons, gear, have all been done over and over. I'm looking for that new title to tear me away from my current game. Hopefully WAR will be it.

I do not flame, I rather have a mature conversation :P

You info is about 20 percent correct and even know your not trying to bash anything you kind of are. You say Lotro didnt make it , its one of the most popular MMO's out rite now , its beautifull graphics, quests leveling, good drops throughout and a fantastic story.

And WAR is bringing nothing new?, i think you should go find some facts to back up your accuasations. Or infact actually learn what WAR is bringing please.

currently retired from :
WoW - 70lock, priest, pally
Eq2 - pally, bard
Lotro - Ranger
Eq - Bard
Coh - Slasher
DaoC - Ranger, Champion, enchanter, bladedancer
Swg - jedi found nodes in dancing, pistoleer
Lineage2 - avenger
Anarchy Online before F2p

Is WoW the only MMO you have played? I get the feeling it is.

As for the whole "brings nothing new, so why do it" thinking, I just have a simple set of questions for you.

Did you go to and pass the 1st grade?

Did you go to and pass the 2nd grade?

Why did you bother going to 2nd grade since it's just like first grade just slightly different?

Did you go to and pass 3rd grade?

Why did you bother going to 3rd grade since it's just 1st and 2nd grade over again, just slightly different?

So on and so forth, since I'm sure you get the idea. As for your questions, you're asking for personal opinions, which you already have an opinion on. Are you unhappy with WoW and not wanting to quit? What is bringing you to a separate game forums if you are content and happy with your current game?

1) MMO's are about the journey. You allow yourself to experience another world and view the ideals of other people. I played wow for 2 1/2 years, and I also have many friends and level 70's. I also quit WoW due to there being nothing new to do. I am waiting on WAR to start the journey anew and go back to having fun.

2) The Tome of Knowledge is new to the genre, the rest of it has been used else where. Having a personal book about your character inside of a game, which is written for you and includes everything you've done and achieved is something new and nice.

3) WoW is the same as all the other games in that respect. They made up an IP (Warcraft), evolved it some, and then made it into an MMORPG (WoW). You liked WoW, so chances are you problem is not with the IP's, but more of the actual gameplay.

4) I think about half of the tabletop players will venture into WAR to at least experience it. I agree they are probably die-hard to their tabletop, but if you give someone the chance to see their dreams come true, how many want to say no? I personally know about 15 people who are Tabletop players who will be playing WAR full-time in addition to their tabletop play.

Also, I would have bought war and played it back in 07 had it been released.

KEAS players are often individuals who like to feel immersed in a virtual worlds and see themselves as a great villain or crusader within that world. They seek out challenges against other players, but they are going to find all the areas of that world. They'll often know about the best hiding places and ambush points

Gaming should not be a "long arduous trek".  That's what jobs are for.

Some of us don't care about how high our levels are.  We just want a fun game.

So do what you want.
Many of us are in between MMOs right now, so it's not an issue.

Wintering over in Antarctica is arduous.  Most jobs are not.

Under one definition wintering in Antarctica would most definitely be arduous since it is difficult. Most jobs are indeed arduous to the person working them. It can be mentally or physically difficult to do the same thing day in and day out. Since it is difficult then that would place it in line with being arduous.

1- Well it all honestly depends on what you like to do in a game? Are you a pvper? How many other mmos have you played? What kind of pvp do you like? If you are a pvper and you enjoy the arena type matches and small battlegrounds then I wouldnt reccomend WAR unless your looking for something different.

Dark Ages of Camelot had some of the best Group Vs Group wide open pvp and keep/siege warfare Ive seen to date. It was a blast

I have to ask what are you looking forward to in WoW?
More raiding? More of the same ol same ol? The next carrot on the end of a stick?

More arena ratings?

Doesnt that get old? Dont get me wrong, I have a blast in WoW but I like to World PvP and do BGS. I stay away from arenas and I really dont care for any form of raiding.

If you like pvp, then maybe this illustration will appeal to you. Think about how fun it would be if instead of rading dungeons, your small tightnit guild raided big alliance/horde citys OFTEN, dominated the city, got great loot and intense group pvp to boot.

Add more pvp to that scenario and a host of other things and thats WAR for me.

2- Just because its ANOTHER fantasy mmo doesnt mean that it wont have anything new. But are you asking if it will have a new "setting"? Well maybe not new but it will definitely have the WARHAMMER feel to the game.

3- I agree with you that Iconic IP's have typically not lived up to there reputation but I beleive that will be different for WARHAMMER.

4- Well I for one am not a table top gamer. And regardless how good this game lives up to the IP I feel it will always be lacking in some small part of the game "FOR THE TABLE TOPPERS". Why? Cause its not tabletop. There is going to be that one spell they wanted to use thats not there, or that one ability or that one strategy. Simply put, its just not the same thing.

I disagree that tabletopers wont play WAR. Ive seen a ton of posts on this forum alone from tabletopers that have waited patiently for years and years for someone to make this game. It doesnt mean that they will quit playing the tabletop but I think they will enjoy this game and get into it more than the WARCRAFT fans got into WoW.

To your last comments,

This all goes back to what you like to do. I think WAR will be more in depth than WoW, more fun than WoW, better PvP, tighter guild structure, more drama and a whole lot of fun.
