I'm already noticing the reduction on 'total members log in' on the Runescape webpage. Anyone remembers Sw:G Before SoE release NGE? Well, that was like runescape before December, 10th 2007 but Jagex had to screw everything up (I hope they're regretting it); Obviously, Jagex doesn't do research on other mmorpg, if they did than jagex would've done something a whole lot better instead of a NGE repeat.

I give Runescape a year before it dies like Sw:G, and if Jagex is lucky they'd have the subscription like Tibia - 320k 'total login' before December 12th to 150K below 'total log in' after December 12th (prime time); That's a 50%+ reduction in membership within 5 months, I don't know how much member will Jagex have remaining in 09.

Of course it will die...just like all other MMO's. None of them can really last forever. They all end up losing subscriptions due to changes and "enchancements". It's natural. No game could not evolve though because then everyone will have done everything to do in the game eventually and fresh new updates have to be brought in.

Though I will admit, Pre-Cu should have stayed

Playing: Diablo 2, Medievia, SWG EMU

"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch

This game will not die like SWG.  Although I hate Jagex and everything they did to the game, it will be here for a while.  The people that play this game have most likely tried no other games, so that means they are going to think RuneScape is the best or they will not know of any other MMOs.  Not only that, but RuneScape is loved by the under aged community who run across the game at Miniclip, so this will also attract players for a while to come.

The game won't die as dramatically as SWG.  It still has 900k subs.

Nah it will stay, it may lose some long time players, but loads more keep joining since it's so easy to pick up and play.

why do humans build, because it isn''t there

It's utterly impossible for runescape to disappear.  it offers a true no-barrier-to-entry play style, you don't even need an email address to play it.  they will always be getting more and more people into the game no matter what they do to it and no matter how they mess it up.

The game may have a whole bunch of bad bundled with it, but the developers have the best bussiness sense out of any.

PS: runescape has gone through a few other rapid changes  Number one: it used to be that you could kill anyone just about anywhere no wild just full FFA PvP, they added a flagging system that would allow you to not be able to attack or be attacked   Number two:  complete removal of the open world PvP system even with the flag system the still removed it and added the wild  Number three:  while not as rapid the complete nerfation of crafting skills in trade for Phat loots, used to be that all armor that was in the game was crafted by the players and that it was the most powerful thing(now there's barrows/slayer/quest loot that far more powerful than anything crafted).

It's pretty obvious that jagex is very concerned about staying with the 'in-crowd' for developers and following their lead.  why would anything they've done be a surprise?

Many would be cowards if they had courage enough.

Runescape will die eventually.. just not  until some smart developer makes a game that is similar to runescape but yet is actually fun. When that happens ... you will hear this sucking sound as if the players were just  sucked right out of runescape.  If a developer would take all of the good that the game has to offer and not make the same mistakes jagex did, provide quality gameplay, game speed, player rewards, customer service, graphics  and pvp ... bam! runescape will a ghost town. The only reason they survive is that they offer things to do in the game other than fighting... once another developer accomplishes that  in a way that is more satisfying to players and advertises it well...  Jagex will be left with their crippled game all to themselves.... and the random 8 yr old that  wanders in...
